It's a genuine tragedy, fire is an awful way to go. But the people running this place neglected to do anything to make it safer so they should really admit responsibility for the deaths instead of play up how tragic this was.
That's an interview with two of the survivors. One of them is an event organizer with Ghost Ship who says it's becoming apparent that this was an electrical fire. It's alleged that the staff was illegally siphoning electricity from other buildings surrounding the warehouse, so that's probably what caused the fire. In turn, the clutter and shoddily built 2nd floor made it nearly impossible for anyone to get out in time. They have no one to blame but themselves and are trying to spin this as some kind of marginalization issue, that they don't have access to safer spaces because they support queer artists, something like that. Yet they've been operating this space for three years, how have they not had time to sit down and make action plans to install sprinklers, smoke detectors, actual emergency exits? The whole thing is incredibly frustrating.

Oakland is next to San Francisco, a "sanctuary" (lawless) city.
There have been a suspiciously high number of "gas leaks," train derailings, infrastructural failures and especially fires lately.
The entire inside of the loft space was unfinished wood, cluttered with wood tchotchkes, and crowned with a wood mezzanine that had only one exit.
One attendee tweeted beforehand about wanting privileged white flesh to burn.

I think some people are pissed off and shouting down the mayor and she looks nervous as fuck, and apparently there could be a more than 33 dead because they didn't know how many were there and the police are pissed because some deputy's kid was there and died
