I went to two movies with a predominant black audience and I can tell you for a fact that the stereotype is true. None of them shut the fuck up, they need to shout out whatever is happening like no one else is watching. Black people are often the only ones crashing other movies too. I will say though that with the dozens of streaming services, and a bunch of shit movies being pumped into the theaters over and over and over every fucking month (remakes, this and that, bs movies etc) I too have started to not go and stayed home.
These things need not be causally related, especially when we're talking about 10 years of tech and Hollywood changes.
I've got a home theater, it's not unlikely you do either, or at least a 30-40 inch TV or monitor. The quality and experience of watching movies at home has just gone up immensely. Streaming and on-demand services are now easier and actually stocked with things to see.
Every single year we produce thousands of hours of entertainment, but it never really goes away. The library of entertainment is ever growing. Hollywood competes with itself for people's time. This is great from a long tail income perspective but when people look at your latest Terminator remake attempt and conclude T2 is a superior movie, when they rewatch Die Hard instead of your latest action schlock, when they enjoy Jurassic Park with their kids, this is time taken away from even the potential of watching a modern movie.
This is why they put so much effort into 3D, then high framerate tech. They were desperate to find a unique experience in cinema. Unfortunately it turned out to be a fad. Again.

Not sure if it is because old reels with chemical film had more resolution or if morons can't keep them in focus but my 7yo Sony Bravia is sharper with inkier blacks than my local Cinemark.
If the film you want to see is geared to a black audience, don't waste the time and money to try and see it in a theatre. just wait till its at the Red Box, buy a bootleg, or wait for Netflix, its not worth the aggravation otherwise.

The last time I went to a movie theatre it was fairly empty. Some black couple with like a handful of young kids (5-10yr old maybe) sat in the row behind us.
