McDonalds Is Replacing 2,500 Human Cashiers With Digital Kiosks

How do you feel about automation like this Sup Forums? Low skilled people may have no jobs to fill in a few decades.

We have them since 1 year or two. Nothing special. People still work there you know. They're putting the order together.

Are you going to post this everyday so the same theee arguments can be made everyday

Fuck off with your nigger food

Old news, this been increasing in my country for years.
It sucks, but fuck it, robots are going to replace whatever industry you can think of within a working life.

>But writing
Bitch computers write news articles now

Here's your replacement for $15/hour, Bernie.

don't care, that companies days are numbered, their sales have been dropping every year

It is great.

Less people working shitty jobs, means more people in STEM and arts. More people availabe to design and build more machines.

Automation is good. In the future we will live in a utopia where the majority of people can be NEETs

Socialism is the only answer to mass automation

Not even shitposting, I believe this will cause a resurgence in left wing politics

Not yet! That's my main issue with the current left wing.

Automation requires capitalism to grow and results in socialism, its simply idiots looking three generations ahead forget it is the present.

Give it 10-15 years and yes, socialism.

Mass automation will be the death of illegal immigration, so I'm all for it. Once all the low skill jobs from fast food to fruit picking are handled by machines, there will be nothing left for low-skill foreigners and no way for libshits to justify bringing in more of them because all the "jobs Americans don't want to do" will be automated.

>Once all the low skill jobs from fast food to fruit picking are handled by machines

We are heading down a path were more and more jobs will be automated, and it won't just be low skilled, shitty jobs

theguardian.com/technology/2016/dec/22/bridgewater-associates-ai-artificial-intelligence-management

Management jobs are in the early stages of being affected. Immigration wont have much to do with it, they might just be some of the first to lose jobs but it will happen to a lot of people in time

top kek this is a time honoured tradition here user. You haven´t truly lurked until you´ve seen the same topic every day for a month straight AND it looks like the same guy posting it with only a few pictures used for "variety". A good one from recent times comes to mind "Where have all the good men gone" tier posts.

Also OT so I don´t get b&: Automation is good to an extent but comes with many risks as we all know and should be introduced slowly, wisely and compassionately. Which is not how business operates at all so prepare for the revolution of workless sexless hopeless men.

meant to reply to

We don't have fucking entitled niggers demanding three times what their labour is worth.
Which is why we still have people behind the counter at McDonalds.

Oh its happening to you soon kek

kioskindustry.org/self-order-kiosk-mcdonalds-germany/

Why price their labor instead of their time. Time is the only true resource worth having.

I like these thing.
I can take my time to choose what I want since I rately eat fast food and don't know the menu.

I can't wait to use them. I prefer not to deal with a person who believes they should earn $15 an hour for just taking an order, pressing a button or turning on or off an automated machine. I'm a plumber fag and i had to bust ass, learn a skilled trade to even get close to $15 an hr at one point.

And when the Republican healthcare bill craters Medicaid, they won't have healthcare either.

With no job and no healthcare they'll just die out.

Problem solved.

I think we better stop bringing poor uneducated people into the country because they are all going to be on permanent multi-generational welfare in another 5-10 years

The article is two years old, and nothing, absolutely fucking nothing has happened yet. There isn't a single restaurant here with pay terminals.
That's because McD knows people wouldn't go for it, but take their business to Burger King or one of the many, many, many fast food restaurants run by immigrants here instead.

>The article is two years old, and nothing, absolutely fucking nothing has happened yet.

Not even one year old, these things don't happen over night but you are naive if you don't think its coming

Good, now when I want to grab a coffee some dumb teenage nigger won't take 5 minutes to punch it in.

Mcdonalds realized running their till is so easy the customers can do it themselves instead of paying some immigrant to press the buttons.

Try 51% of workers

>Jobs with predictable activities in structured environments are the easiest to replicate with robots, a process known as automation. McKinsey estimates that 51% of all job-related activities in the U.S. economy fit this description, largely in manufacturing, food service and retail trade sectors.

So in the future a STEM Major will earn as much as a McDonalds cashier now.

It's not going to happen. For three reasons:
1) People avoid machines like ticket machines.
2) There are more than enough alternatives everywhere.
3) Over 90% of the people here pay cash. Those machines would have to accept cash, and that means they'd be broken into in the night by Turks looking for cash.

It's not coming.

WRONG DOOSHBREATH

They have these in New Mexico at 2 diff stores

I want these everywhere. fuck people

Hey, retard, if you follow the thread, you'll see that I said they won't come here to Germany. What the fuck do I care about New Mexico?

in fact most of their customers have far better cash handling skills than their employees do.

>It's not going to happen.

Yes it is, they are spending $557 million in Germany to make it happen

As I said: The article about the "intention" to spend that money is two years old and nothing has happened in those two years. It's bullshit. It won't work. Managers here know that, and that's why it's not going to happen.

I personally love McDonalds, but they try that shit here i'll simply stop going there. It has nothing to do with morals, just have you ever seen how greasy touchscreens become in a fast food?

Putting the order together can be automated as well. And will be soon enough.

The Beer industry already has fully automated warehouses. Automated picking of product. Automated filling of the trucks. The only thing you need are drivers and some admin folks.

And they are working on automating the drivers as well.

If you are low skilled or no skilled, you are going to die with no job and no healthcare. That's just a fact.

First off
>fast food

Second, this is good. Humans were not made to spend 40 hours a week in a greasy kitchen making "food" for minimal pay, from a multi billion dollar company.

Raise wages in agriculture/field work and all low skill American workers can work in the fields, rather than exploiting migrants. More productive than flipping burgers and better for health and the economy.

this is known as parallel implementation process, it trials the new system simultaneously with the old in order to make a swift transition whilst also trailing/evaluating and comparisons are made. ie
which is more effective

in this case they would be comparing $$$ ide assume. gotta make some profit where its (((due))) am right :^)

Thanks god I work a job where the system is so convoluted and nearly impossible to fully automate.

You can automate most agricultural work too, especially for harvesting.

>be american
>get shot by niggers
>have to pay for healthcare
>can't afford it because no jobs
ah yes the american dream

the neural networks will get to it soon enough, don't worry.

>two years old and nothing

again, not even one year old

>McDonald's says most of its 1,472 locations in Germany will be redesigned by the end of 2019.

>The Golden Arches said Monday it will be investing €500 million ($557 million) to modernize its restaurants in Germany. About 72 "restaurants of the future" in Germany will start offering custom-made burgers, improved children's play areas and table service on Monday. The novelty for Germans in the restaurants will be a "make your Mac" option, where customers can choose their ingredients by tapping on giant touch-screen kiosks.

>thestreet.com/story/13628141/1/mcdonald-s-will-give-germans-access-to-high-tech-kiosks.html

Fuck you for making me look for sources

>STEM Major will earn as much as a McDonalds cashier now

its already moving that direction.

inc.com/betsy-mikel/can-robots-do-the-job-of-designers-nutella-gives-it-a-whirl.html

Decently skilled people won't have jobs either kek.

My colleague is training convoluted neural networks on a high performance computer, and so far they have even trouble distinguishing between cats and dogs.

Well if that happens and the whole job market goes to shit I will finally have an excuse to go innawoods.

You're describing what is happending to the white trash. And nobody cares about them.

The folks with education and skills are fine.

It's already that direction if not worse

>Low skilled people may have no jobs to fill in a few decades.
Nah. If way too many low skilled people happen to be without jobs, they will riot against the machines. The (((men in charge))) will either construct more machines to take out the rioting hordes (population reduced so less unemployment %) or hire more security (more jobs for the low skilled people).

It will work out. Not to mention that nothing is forever.

Also sage.

Management jobs are already being replaced by software right now too

>shitting on the working class
le edgy teenager detected

But senpai they cant into Calculus
Thats the reason they're working at mcdonalds.

If you cant into Trigonometry then you cant into STEM

Its just that simple.

>implying working class people even give a shit about their health

the average human in a working environment has had at least 15 years of training to teach them differences like these, and is more effective at learning than a machine is

I dont expect it would take less time for these neural networks to learn the same things on their own

there are solutions

Good. Time for untermensch to return to strictly subsistence living.
Intelligent and capable people are being given short shrift in terms of societal, cultural and sexual capital afforded to the underclasses with no chance of reprieve since these drone are peers in the electoral system.
Only through the advent of technology can the law of the jungle be returned.
A few kids without after-school jobs is collateral damage - the little pricks should be studying anyway.

I've never walked into a McDonalds that had all white trash people working there, it's always been blacks or illegals

I like them. Nothing is worse than getting stuck in line behind someone who can't make up their mind on what they want.

I live in a pretty big metropolitan area, and I haven't seen a single pay terminal yet. At least not at McDonalds.

They have them at Ikea, and they have them at Real, which is sort of like a Walmart with more class and higher prices here. There is never a line, because over 90% of the people here pay cash. There always has to be an attendant at the self checkout counters, because people can't deal with machines. They get frustrated, and they need help with operating the terminals.

So the only "saving" you get is have one attendant watch about three of four self checkout counters.

Seeing how these things aren't popular with customers and having a huge reservoir of low skilled people that are made to work after two years of unemployment benefits, I don't thing pay terminals are the future.

>an edgy american aristocrat
>2017
truly the worst time line

Depends were you live, I've seen plenty of young white people working at McDonalds.

Not that McDonalds will give a shit who they replace with machines

Senpai if I saw even a 5 year old point at a cat and say "dog" I would assume xir had a learning disability

The concern over automation is a symptom of the public school system. The low skill job of the future is grunt level coding and IT maintenance. Public schooling being in it's own bubble has no market feedback through which to update it's curriculum so you have inconsistent distribution in curricula that are consistent with market demand. Some schools have a good admin that has pushed the school towards the current market and many others that continue to operate as if they are preparing students to work in the industry of the 1950s and 60s.

>ancap

No. It has been proven over and over that commies cannot plan an economy. You'll just starve people to death until the population matches the food supply. Neck yourself

This.
The minimum wage should make people want to strive for better - by design, it should not be a LIVEABLE wage.

>ancap

Did you just assume their species?

>Britbong

Aren't you late for a body cavity search? And diversity training

> People avoid machines

I go for the self service checkout at the Depot and my supermarket every time.
The order is small - build it and they will come.

>le edgy communist who has probably never worked with American working class
>thinking he knows everything

I agree

Over here we have this thing called Walmart and on either end of the cashier lanes they have automated checkout lanes.

Some people go for them because they only have a few items and its quick...

But in my experience people tend to want a human cashier and are willing to wait for another customer to get checked out in line.

The reason why I prefer actual cashiers is because when I go through the self-checkouts they almost always have some kind of problem. They're either offline, or they get confused, or they dont accurately scan some special deal (marked down bakery goods) - and I have to nag the supervisor to come over and fix the price on it or delete it off the list.

I also like to pay with Cash and its a bitch & 1/2 to pay cash into an automatic machine. Im frequently worried that it'll eat a $10 or $20 and then they wont believe me.

They still havent gotten that figured out yet, where you can just dump a handful of money into a tray and then the machine accurately counts all of it and sorts it. We're still using this antiquated vending machine shit where you have to insert one bill at a time (and often one Coin at a time just so it doesnt get confused).

> inb4 its literally nothing

Its happening senpai

>Commie

Not an argument

In many places here in London, the McDonalds' get so busy that even if they doubled their staff they couldn't possibly meet speed quotas. The only option would be to build more and more McDonalds establishments to match demand. Instead of doing that they're using these computers to send requests directly to the line.

B-B-BUT HOW WILL LITTLE TIMMY EARN A LIVING WAGE NOW!?

>Paying by cash
>2017
user, you may be a man out of time - they're making it increasingly difficult to pay by cash.
I have accepted my fate and rock the Barclaycard.

Remember when McDonalds said bringing in a living wage would just lead to jobs being replaced by machines?

They just went ahead and replaced the jobs with machines anyway the absolute madmen

They. Are. Shit.
Can't do half as much as the humans there.

I cant wait for this. It always ends up that the once in a blue moon I go to McDonalds I get a worker that doesn't speak 5 words of English and fucks up my order. Sorry that I feel that if you want to live in my country speak the native language.

This is progess. These machines make it way faster and easier for me to get my slop.

This, and I have two more concerns to add:

Cash terminals here have been tampered with by the thousands. Thieves break in at night and manipulate them. Since nothing is stolen, those break ins aren't reported to police. Months later customers notice thousands of Euros missing from their bank accounts. Turns out thieves manipulated the teller machines to send them the card numbers AND authentication code for each transaction. They then print their own blanco bank cards and withdraw money at ATMs in Romania with the authentication codes they stole.

Second, I like to keep a "feel" for the money I earned with hard work. I see and feel it being spent. I'm not sure the same thing would happen to me, but as a friend of mine got used to paying with cards, he was always overdrawing his bank account. He just had no feeling for how much money he had spent.

Wendy's are doing the same
zerohedge.com/news/2017-02-27/minimum-wage-massacre-wendys-unleashes-1000-robots-counter-higher-labor-costs

Paying by cash is going extinct user, it will get harder and harder to do that, Hell you can pay with your phone in most places now

Automated checkouts is like The Fifth Element and iRobot kinda shit.

Like many years from now after AI actually gets gud and they have all these technical defects sorted out... it can THEN be easily applied to things like retail service. But at that point you could literally put a robot there to greet people too.

Until they get it down Just Right there's no way that it'll be effective.

In some cases it may work just because "there's no other alternative among stores, so you'll just have to deal with it" and thats going to piss people off, but they'll still have to do that.

But anything smaller than Walmart, things like fast food, unless they all start doing it right away its a Self-Nerf because people will start going to other places.

Besides Fast Food... you know... the reason its fast is because MOST people who buy fast food do it through the DRIVE THRU.

And there will ALWAYS be a human server at the drive thru because of a million fucking reasons. And if they aren't actually handing the food to the customer they'll still be employed to watch the camera and press buttons.

One possibility this may lead to is fast food restaurants eliminating their indoors dining areas or making them limited.

However thats just going to spur growth on higher end fast food restaurants starting up that "provide that older aesthetic experience" and all they'll have to do to kill the big chains is provide a single low end item like a cheeseburger - and people will go there because it'll actually taste better.

Automated Servers/Cashiers is a SELF NERF

they are not replacing cashiers, just make it so they dont need to press in orders and handle payments.

Instead the cashiers can focus on bringing/making the food quicker.

>he was always overdrawing his bank account. He just had no feeling for how much money he had spent.

Jesus Christ they don't teach you how to balance a bank account in Germany?

As I explained: I don't want to. And my countryman won't either.
Paying with cards has been around for over two decades now. And if you watch the people in line in front of you, over 90% still like to pay cash. You take that away from the customer, the customer goes elsewhere.

i like them. i hate shouting orders to a sandnigger or slavmonkey who doesn't speak a lick of German

Serious issue though, we still talk about Trump everyday

No they are being replaced. Cashiers don't make the food

>the customer goes elsewhere.

Not here - if everywhere's like that, where do you go Unabomber guy???

Lol. More like more people unemployed and unemployable with more time to commit crime and cause chaos.

Day of the hammer when?

Ill second this.
It means better service TBQ honest.

We pay them 15 bucks an hour, and the store puts in automated cashiers. But they'd probably only drop 1 or 2 people.

The rest would still be there to either watch what the customers are doing... bus tables/floors and be more attentive to customers... and help with fixing and bringing the food up.

> and the servers/cashiers would actually need to have Less customer service skills since they wouldnt be talking to the public in the same context as over-the-register

They could be doing this NOW, but it goes to show you how lazy the restaurant chains are. That an increase in minimum wage is what it'll take to force them to adapt.

Can't wait for the cyberpunk dystopia we will all be living in soon

>rolled back
Yeah, no

No. Do they teach you?
I think it's a psychological problem. My friend would alway pay with card, never paying attention to how much he'd spend. He would also order tons of shit online. And at the end of the month when he got his account sheets, he'd always be around one to two thousand in the negative. Which is about the average NET one month salary here as they take around 45% in taxes and unemployment, pension and health insurance.

yeah here in the states we have sassy black workers that act like you're putting a boulder on their shoulder everytime you add something to your order.
