doubt that baki has large enough of a fanbase to have continuous threads like some of the larger anime/manga

Suddenly out of nowhere like a clap of thunder in a clear sky, the man, the meme: Motobe Izou.

I really like this portrayal of Musashi.

I will also love to see his defeat.

Yeah this is confusing.

Yujiro would have seen him approaching, Motobe's not that fast.

So he's asking who threw him.

It's Musashi that's talking, you nerds. Next chapter's page one makes that clear. I didn't want to change the font, so I left it as-is, so anyone reading through won't be bothered by it.

Ethan Kelly
Ethan Kelly

It's Musashi that's talking, you nerds
It sounds much more like something Yujiro would say.

Musashi hasn't been one to express outrage or indignation.

Leo Richardson
Leo Richardson

He says "nani yatsu" when he would normally say "nani mono" or something, so he's at least marginally irritated; hence "who dares?"

Jackson Wood
Jackson Wood

wait did memetobe not even change his shirt before raping gaia?

Jonathan Miller
Jonathan Miller

He was leaving Tokugawa's place when Gaia met him, so no

Sebastian Kelly
Sebastian Kelly

What does Musashi actually cut with? Air pressure?

The thing he's doing now seems different from his basic imaginary cutting he does without moving his body. It's like taking up swords is a step up from the basic imagination-only slashes, and then the empty-handed swings are a further step above that.

Also I remember Doppo being able to "subdue"/"negate" the imaginary slashes, what was that all about and why can't anyone else doing it?

Sebastian Reed
Sebastian Reed

*why can't anyone else do it

Here's the scene I mean.

Jayden Thomas
Jayden Thomas

He seemed to have been focusing quite hard too, but he was unable to cut Doppo without swinging his limbs around.

Jose Flores
Jose Flores

What does Musashi actually cut with?
His hands. The point of all this is that his evolution of the sword led him to where Baki & friends are: fighting with the "fist".

His pure imagination slashes are complicated; it's best to just put it down as "I can sense that he could kill me right now!" type crap

Also I remember Doppo being able to "subdue"/"negate" the imaginary slashes, what was that all about and why can't anyone else doing it?
Everybody's done it in some way or form except for Shibukawa. Remember when Baki instinctively jumped over "nothing" when Musashi stepped into the room? Musashi didn't even bother doing it against Retsu. Yuujiro can do it, he consciously chose not to do it to piss off Musashi; hence his line about "You can't chop, cut, cleave, whatever, without an actual sword in your hand". Pickle is kind of doing it by simply having an unbreakable body, which is something Musashi comments on.

Christopher Cox
Christopher Cox

What does Musashi actually cut with? Air pressure?
its the opposite of baki imagination when shadow boxing

musashis can apply damage to things just by imagining a sword, which he will kill yujiro by projecting a third sword inside him (mangaka said yujiro dying is baki ending)

Gavin Richardson
Gavin Richardson

So Reichan posted volume 19 last week, and it was dated 2010. Is it safeto assume he is done with it by 2016? When is rip coming?

Logan Jones
Logan Jones

He's only posting v20 next and then he's purportedly done forever with pub releases. Only way to get the rest - or even know if there *is* a "rest" - is if someone leaks them.

Joshua Perry

I love this face. It's the happiest we've ever seen Yujiro. Yet it's also a grimace. Almost as if he is resigned to take the slice. He can take it as well as he can dish it out. He is so excited to meet the first time in his life something might manage to put him in fear of his life.

Levi Davis
Levi Davis

He's always been a good writer. The convict arc was flawless. The realization of Yuujiro's true character in the Raitai was perfectly written. The final arc and Baki vs Yuujiro fight was rife with complex themes and ideas. Whether or not they came across well in the translations is up to debate.

notit

Gavin Reyes

I dunno if it's the happiest we've seen him, but he's pretty damn happy. I think he might have been happier at the end of Son of Ogre. 18 years of work coming to fruition at last.

The art may be ugly (tough the autor has improve) but the fights are top tier. The manga is fucking stupid, but it has the kind of stupidity I like.

The art is fucking manly that's what.

Ps: Musashi overpowering Pickle is bullshit.

Blake Ortiz
Blake Ortiz

I mean, Yuujiro overpowered Pickle when they first met. It's not that far a reach.

Isaac Hughes
Isaac Hughes

Yujiro is a genetic freak. Alien like no less. Musashi is just a strongly human, not even as muscular or tall as Yujiro or pickle.

John Sanders
John Sanders

Why do you assume Musashi isn't a genetic freak?

Biology works in bizarre ways, especially in this manga. Baki is small as hell compared to his father, yet comparable in strength. Je Guevaru is just some random guy who ended up becoming one of the strongest in the world. Kaku has no special blood or anything, is 150 years old, and yet he's more-or-less on par with Yuujiro.

Miyamoto Musashi's actual father was also a hardcore warrior (and possibly the inspiration for Niten Ichiryuu), so it would absolutely be easy to justify his superhuman strength genetically even if Itagaki wanted Musashi to just be an anomalous being.

And Musashi is just about as tall as Yuujiro; maybe an inch or so shorter. I think Jack is now the tallest character - Pickle was like 7'6 or something, right? - yet he isn't nearly as strong as any of the above.

Last,
strongly

Parker Baker
Parker Baker

Olivia got dealt a shit hand. His whole gimmick is that he's the strongest physically, if you take that away then he's left with nothing, which is exactly what happened in his fight with Baki. I can accept Yujiro overpowering him because Yujiro is what he is but Baki should've beaten Olivia with techniques instead raw power.

James Torres
James Torres

Baki has Hanma genes tho

Nicholas Perry
Nicholas Perry

High test
Fuckin chubby chasers

Blake Barnes
Blake Barnes

I like to think that, in a sense, Baki *did* beat him with technique. Technique of endurance. Baki was brutalized in every fight that he got into. He was used to taking an impossibly hard beating. We've never seen Oliva take a real beating, not once. It's entirely possible that, simply because Oliva rarely took hard strikes as he only ever fought weak people, Baki was able to take more punches.

That aside, Oliva seemed fine the next day, and Baki was still very much fucked up. He won a "match". Musashi would say that Baki lost that fight.

Adrian Miller
Adrian Miller

Sergio Oliva was a boxer, too. He shouldn't have lost in endurance.

Jace Wood
Jace Wood

How is boxing in any way comparable to Baki-level street fighting? And don't say Retsu.

Brayden Ross
Brayden Ross

Pickle feasted on dinosaurs. He's Yujiro level like, really superhuman. Musashi is still human even though humans can be stupidly strong in the manga.

Carson Fisher
Carson Fisher

Pickle's strong and all, but let's not forget that at one point, Hanayama managed to stop his charge and even start pushing him back. It's no stretch of the imagination that Musashi would be able to do the same.

Nathaniel Torres
Nathaniel Torres

Nathaniel Walker
Nathaniel Walker

Part of it, I think, was Musashi's hands. They're ludicrously large, and he can control immense amounts of pressure with them. Even Yuujiro's hands are like 70% the size of Musashi's.

Another part of it is that everybody is fucking retarded and didn't look at what happened in that charge. Musashi got pushed back, then slammed his legs onto the wall - using his hand grip with Pickle as a stabilizer - and forced his way off of it to hit Pickle in the head. It's not like he just stood there while being pressed back and lightly headbutted Pickle to knock him down/stop the charge; it took all of his strength to do that.

I think we, as contemporary readers, extrapolate and demand more information from a chapter than earlier readers would have. Can you imagine discussing and waiting for the next release during Hanayama vs Speck here? There would be so much baseless shit-flinging.
Speck shoulda won right there, why the fuck didn't he pull the trigger
nobody can get up after a flashbang, that's bullshit
wtf i wanted a rematch and sudden asspull, Speck is 90

There's so many Chinese edits of Motobe doing stuff, it's amazing

Henry Cooper
Henry Cooper

Jesus fucking Christ you'd think the Chinese would worship Retsu instead of Motobe.

Joshua Moore
Joshua Moore

There's not much left to worship.

Christian Lee
Christian Lee

I mean, Retsu is kind of a Chinese stereotype. Perhaps they don't like him because of that. Perhaps they do like him, but he's just not current anymore. Dunno.

Jace Morris
Jace Morris

Holy hell, what is wrong with their faces? Are they even human?

Joseph Nguyen
Joseph Nguyen

They have muscular jaws. They are the pinnacles of physical strength; every muscle in their body is flawless. They're human.

Camden Rivera
Camden Rivera

Retsu is gone though.

And besides, while Retsu was perhaps the moest Baki together with Oliva he didn't have Memetobe's swag, even at his best Retsu was still very disciplined and serious, Memetobe is just a loveable tryhard.
I seriously doubt the author even knows anatomy!

Christopher Martinez
Christopher Martinez

This is probably one of the ugliest artstyles I've ever witnessed but at least it's unique. I shudder to imagine how he draws females, I bet it's on par with Nobuyuki Fukumoto ones.

Not gonna lie, that doesn't seem like a lot of weight Olivia is lifting there.

Camden Moore
Camden Moore

musashi underestimates him because there were no black people in his times

Luke Rogers
Luke Rogers

Pretty savage, desu

Brody Long
Brody Long

that doesn't seem like a lot of weight Olivia is lifting there.

He's using twelve plates per barbell, assuming by the size of the plates and Oliva's proportions they're probably twelve 45 lbs plates, he's basically lifting 540 lbs per arm.

If that doesn't seem a lot of weight for simple exercises I don't really know what is, considering we're talking about a man who could bring down assault helis by pulling a chain attached to them.

Matthew Hill
Matthew Hill

When has Yujiro been shown lifting that much for workouts?

Easton Scott
Easton Scott

if he wants to even touch Yujiro
No one can ever touch Yujiro anyway, so it's not worth the bother.
Dad Hammer doesn't even need to lift when he can move through solid concrete like it's butter.
