Reincarnation stories, at least more than a dozen, and a third being Chinese inspired. Japan has made anime for Japan, but they'll see potential in a wider Asian market, the West still sucks cock until they can churn out revenue with Online Distribution deals.

Japan is transitioning in it's delivery format from TV by some companies, especially to make it available via mobile.

The reincarnation will last for 3 years easily, I wouldn't doubt Slime, Shield & Rudy-sama will make it, just that their Light Novels are a year away from being fleshed out.

UQ Holder will get an anime, and there will be 1 miracle of another korean manwha/webtoon such as Freezing getting adapted, despite how much Japan wishes Koreans burn in a fire.
Money is on Tower of God doing this with minimilistic Japanese style, other series can't be adapted that well.

Reincarnation stories will be going strong for the next few years. Most of them will go something like, "I reincarnated/drifted into an MMO-like fantasy world/literal MMO as a monster/villager/hero/demon lord/girl."

Instead of psychically trapped in an MMO anime, the new hyper-realistic, psychologically and emotionally trapped in an MMO anime featuring anons as they attempt to make rent each month while spending more hours logged in than working and sleeping combined! Watch the thrilling 17 hour farm episode where the protagonist ignores his bodies pleas for movement and basic nutrition!

You forgot to mention they actually won't be parodies at all because they'll play all the elements completely straight except they'll be "self aware".

Daniel Moore
Daniel Moore

Yeah as person said above for shield bro.
Spider LN has only started recently from memory, but there's a huge push behind it. Manga has only begun at least 6 months to determine interest, but you never know studios if they like it they'll pick it up. Problem is the obvious game of throne separate character development.

Re:Monster should be none at all, but I dunno of any LN version of it since the WN is bare bone diary fap material, not saying that it's not good, just wouldn't sell on mainstreaming elf rape.

Noah Adams

Reincarnation stories
The ones you're talking about are more a sub-genre of isekai series though.
Actual reincarnation stories would be stuff like Spirit Circle, but Japan will never adapt actual good manga.

Mason Stewart

Very obvious one would be SAO, then webnovels really started taking off and hundreds of stories just popped up with various variations and from there isekai series became really popular, you can still see the MMO influence in many isekai series which portray themselves as straight fantasies but add stuff like stats and levels because writing is hard.

Real Account for keit ai shenanigans, there's this one called Online that does the stuck in mobile game.
Survival theme guro anime isn't a bad idea for future trends, theres 5 I can think of that would have a high probability of getting adapted.

Christian Brown
Christian Brown

Yeah I'd agree the mainstream Market ate it up big again due to SAO, although it's been around for ages for 90s anime like monster rancher and Yakumo in the west.

As for being the first one.. it's the chinese that have been writing this stuff for years and Japan WN + LN scene caught up but made it better / sometimes not better but removed a tonne of Chinese elements.

The translation scene has been in full force into English over the last 4 years. Japans taste is more successful in globalizing it for all markets.

Nathaniel Hernandez

The only sci-fi I know that would succeed 100% becoming animated isn't even Japanese though, it could be combined with Nihei style, vibes are similar to Dune as well. Dual female MC's have been done as well in the past, I think it's about time they revisited those themes.

Landon Phillips

Wrong, super powers on teens is the staple of anime for ages, there have only been 3 series that capitalized on western hype but no others succeeded. There have been 2 cancelled series already, being a public hero has been existed since Kamen rider and westernized anime are pretty narrow on their schoolkid age bracket 'marvel, transformers, etc'

Gavin Murphy
Gavin Murphy

Isekai is basically the pinnacle of escapism. There's no setting that's as ideal for self-insert fantasies as one where the protagonist enters a whole new world full of adventure and cute girls, where nothing about his past life matters.

Unless escapism suddenly falls out of fashion, I think we'll be sticking to this for a long time.

I've created an idea based on the response in this thread ( Escapism, Literal meme, Military, Crossdressing, Space, Forced Moe, Time Travel )

A group of NEET that post on a certain imageboard are transferred to another world
They're all reincarnated as little girl and are forced to join the 1488th Time Space and Dimension Corrective Bureau.
Together they will command a space ship capable of interplanetary war, time travel and other sci-fi stuff.
The first arc are their graduation test
They need to prevent a dimensional rift accident
The source of the accident is a boy that contacted a girl from another dimension through his cellphone.

Okay, let's go through the times. See if we can figure this out early

80s-Shounen and mecha domination
90s-last bastions of the former UNTIL Eva comes out. Then comes the rise of the late night market
Early 00s-Romcoms and harems start to rise
Late 00s-Combination of Shana and Haruhi start the expanse of the "LN with a high school plot" trend
2010-2012-This is around when the battle harem trend started to poke its head through the cracks
2013-now-The logical next step would be the Isekai/trapped in MMO

So if I was to be a guessing man, I'd assume the next thing would be either reincarnation stories or a turn to tragedy based LNs

Owen Fisher
Owen Fisher

I just want a genuine MMO anime, where they're not stuck in one, they just play one. And they're not casual shitters who only play on small scale, in a group of 4-5 players, but in actual raid environments, doing cutting edge content and competing with other guilds, etc. Think of it like a mix of a sports anime, adventure anime, and MMO anime.

Something like Log Horizon minus the stuck in the game part, and written by someone who is actually familiar with raiding.

Cooper Gonzalez

Also we need good anime sequel that will live up to the originals.

Austin Sanchez

Yeah, as soon as I thought about it, I knew Maou-sama would be an immediate response. Maybe more MMO/fantasy oriented, though Maou-sama did have a considerable focus on that throughout.
