No, he did not deserve this. He did not destroy Toronto, he did not start the war and he was not the architect of the conspiracy against Ass Hime. He simply fought for what he has chosen to be his country and for his princess. Anyone with a minimum of knowledge of true military rules should know that there is nothing wrong with that.

He would have to undergo a processes, certainly, but story suggests that they locked him away for some time. Then, perhaps, he became free, but this does not change the fact that he had become a scapegoat.

What was his problem?

Poor writing. Writers were incredibly uncertain in defining his role. On one occasion he seems to want to follow the idea of "Shazam" and work to improve Mars conditions.

Then he resents because Saza hurts the hime, after this, he seems to want the power for create a new era for people like him... Then the princess tells him to stop, he says no. Then again when Hime orders at everyone of surrender... he, although he may still say NO and lead the Mars Empire with Lem... he says yes.

I don't get what you're getting at. He tried to stop the war by talking to the emperor first, throughout the first season he realizes how shit both Earth and Vers are and that if he wants to give Asseylum peace he has to end the war himself. And was he just supposed to get to the position of count and say "That's it guys, now let's make peace" like Asseylum did?

Oh, and in order to continue the war he used his waifu half-sister as a doppleganger for his propaganda.
Because the best thing to do would be to tell everyone after S1 that Asseylum is in a coma, right? Meanwhile the emperor is dying. Oh, and by the way, emperor Gilzeria had an illegitimate child with a terran woman. Vers would take all of that peacefully.

Ian Powell

Because the best thing to do would be to tell everyone after S1 that Asseylum is in a coma, right?

That "faggot count" was with him the whole time and he needed him to get political power, so he had to go along with his plan. After he killed Saazbaum telling everyone that Asseylum is in a coma and that they have a fake princess would be a bad decision.

He continued a war against the wishes of his own fucking boss.

Oh boy... Again this "one way" of thinking.

You have to save the Earth
The Earth is the only thing that matters
The (Mars) princess must save the Earth

Slaine was a soldier of Mars and acted to make the interests of Mars. If this does not please the audience, because they sides with the Earth, is irrelevant.

Moreover, Asseylum self-appointed herself as empress despite his grandfather was still alive and the Crutheo Jr has noted that there was a good possibility that the nobles refuse to submit to her decision.

The anime closes things quickly with the war far from over, but when a country that has caused millions of deaths and destroyed more than half of human race, give up, It can not obtain an unconditional peace, like Asseylum would like. Things do not work like this. And Japan should know what happens to a defeated country.

Mason Hall

Evan Green

Chase Price
Chase Price

Slaine was a soldier of Mars
Was. He in his own words stated he "wasn't of earth of mars" so the princess of mars had no control over him, and decided to make his own kingdom while claiming it was his "wife's" wish. Ironically making him the perfect scapegoat of everything so no side has to feel the shame of this liar being affiliated with them.
And he confessed to the little maid he was doing this "in order to make her happy" towards the end. He stopped talking about helping mars completely. He wanted to create some perfect world with no fighting at all like every generic villain.

Whether you cheer for Mars or either of the shallow sides is irrelevant, because the base fact is that everything going on is a lie in order to genocide a bunch of people under false pretenses.

and the Crutheo Jr has noted that there was a good possibility that the nobles refuse to submit to her decision.
That's before she became empress, and it's also the reason she did and had a political marriage for more power just like Slaine. Neither of them had absolute total control instantly.

She let them research Aldnoah and is looking into the activation factor for everybody. Meanwhile Mars still isn't terraformed, when Earth gets Aldnoah they can just disable the hypergate and cut Mars off and attack them.

I don't see how Mars would ever accept Slaine just going "let's make peace, the princess wants it so". Apparently the only reason they accept her peace is because she's now empress and to their knowledge the only one who can command Aldnoah since the emperor is gone. It makes no sense. Her marriage with Klancain was supposed to show that she has support from the home planet.

The whole time they keep babbling how the orbital knights have waited 15 years to finally attack Earth and then we're supposed to believe they'll just stop when they have it practically conquered.

The writer rarely has any power over the story.
The Director decides what happens in the story, the writers do the dialogue to get it to that part in the way the Director wants.
Stupid people actually believe this. The director only ever has a say in script if he's also involved in the writing, he has the call to make last minute changes when deemed necessary but rarely does since it sets production back thus pissing off the committee. Beyond that both the writer and director have to compromise what goes about in the story and the writer can change it readily if he sees that things don't flow well and doesn't like the direction and when both writer and director don't see eye to eye you get something like Engage The Planet Kiss dum which had the writer walk out with the scripts before the first episode and the director essentially had to make shit up until they found some resemblance of a plot, this was the TV version and since then there has been three other versions of this anime that was made to fix and make sense of it all with finally a BD version making the complete package and giving it a new ending. Everything in A/Z makes it seem like Aoki and Takayama were just following Urobuchi's retarded outline and inserting their own equally retarded modifications in it instead of fixing it, if I had to divide the blame then Takayama and Urobuchi are the reason why the plot makes no fucking sense and Aoki and Takayama are the reason why the characters are largely terrible and of course Aoki is the reason why it was poorly directed. Since both of them collaborated on previous works in the past there was probably very little clashing between both of them and they were allowed to carry on their own whims with the story much like Okada and Nagai with Iron Blooded Orphans.

Just make it so they have a corrupt government. Don't give the princess a slaine, let her be a war hime who believes their propaganda(because WHY expose your princess to terran teachings?) so the caged bird shit makes sense until character development or something if they absolutely need to.

Takayama and Urobuchi are the reason why the plot makes no fucking sense
I have no idea what I'm talking about

Urobuchi made the foundation for the world and plot. Aoki took the reins from there and decided to change things up and even did the story boards for 9 episodes himself. The writers do character interaction and dialogue under his vague specifications. So if the characters are retarded you can blame the writer(like the PTSD guy, forced misunderstanding with Inaho and Slaine, etc..) because they accomplished the goal in a stupid way(even if they were constrained by the sotryboard and couldn't reason with the director).

Tell that to Araki, Murata, Yamamoto, Fukuda and Mizushima hell Araki has pretty much disowned Guilty Crown saying it was disappointing because he intended it to be. Directors has as much power as a manager at Walmart, not much. They pretty much have to be on everyone because if one person screws up then they get all the heat from management.
The director also has to compromise less
Anno says hi! There was so much shit he wanted in Evangelion that was scraped do to them being too retarded (Kaworu being a cat) or too risque (Asuka and Shinji sex scene) and that had more writers than A/Z. Jayden Anderson

Yep. He pretty much said these characters aren't mind and I just wrote three episodes. From what it seems he just gave them a an unedited script and called it a night.

A different Inaho,
From the outline the Inaho here just seems obsessed with Hime but he's given next to no characterization that distinguishes him from the final product
A different Slaine
Essentially what we got with season 2 once again biggest different is his stance on Hime which he sees nothing more than a pawn, Aoki thought it was a good idea to make him more sympathetic and gay even though his obession with Hime felt more like a determent.

And even the ending is virtually the same with the biggest difference is Hime marrying some fat old guy instead of a random pretty boy and instead of Inaho and Slaine being isolated together its just Slaine with Inaho giving him occasional visits.

Jeremiah Adams

he wanted Rayet to be relevant and switched her to land the final bow

Hunter Bennett

There was no Inaho in the original draft. Inaho as a character is a creation of the Boku no Pico guy by Aoki's request. This so-called original Butcher draft was just a guideline for a plot about two conflicting civilizations. He did write the script of the first three episodes but by then the whole concept had already been shaped by Aoki and Pico.

Aaron Edwards

Well essentially they're at is a desert island with Slaine being came in isolation and Inaho visiting him they're not trying to hide it at this point.
Aoki also said that the ending was also in Butcher's guideline.
Because from what Aoki says and from what we've seen from the outline his ideas were just as stupid and the show was doomed from the get go. Butcher supporters still try to defend him even if he's involved with garbage but from everything we've seen from behind the scenes in this garbage neither Aoki or Takayama strayed far from his outline.

Jeremiah Morgan
Jeremiah Morgan

instead of Inaho and Slaine being isolated together its just Slaine with Inaho giving him occasional visits
The whole point of them being isolated in that early ending was because Inaho betrayed the UFE, family and friends because of his blind obsession and Slaine was ruthless, so they were both alienated and regarded as criminals.

His twitter. Pretty much after the last episode his account got barred with negative feedback over the ending and Slaine's fate which is why he was on damage control for a while. He explained that the ending was what was originally intended and that Slaine had to make amends for his sins or some other horseshit plus it matches up with the outline that had Slaine and Inaho crashing towards earth and ending up on an island

Lucas Jones
Lucas Jones

His outline didn't include character relationships or personality details. It was literally a rough concept of a interplanetary war with a Lelouch-like clone at the center. Aoki wanted a conflict between two male characters and for that very reason he brought up the princess because "love triangles are the best way to do that!". This implies that there wasn't even a princess at first. I think you're confusing Butcher's outline with the various drafts Aoki and Pico did afterwards, such as the other ending for season 1.

user, think for a bit. How could the end that Butcher supposedly wrote be intact if Inaho and the princess didn't exist in his rough draft? I think that this original ending Aoki is talking about is referring to the first draft that he and Boku no Pico guy wrote. Anime originals go through various stages and rewrites, so what he's probably saying is that they didn't change a lot of it and went with the first thing they wrote.

Urobuchi wrote the plot and the history of Earth and Vers; Aoki created the characters and their storylines. This is what they agreed on right from the start (Spring, 2011).

Takayama was brought on board towards the end of 2012 because they knew that Urobuchi wouldn’t be able to write all of the screenplays himself.

Urobuchi left in early 2013 because of scheduling conflicts (with Kamen Rider Gaim).

Despite the switch, Urobuchi’s plot outline has largely been maintained.

This is what everyone has been saying this entire thread.

I used to post random bits always with a Japanese source while the show was airing. I don't compile or preserve these because I think it's pointless to take them so seriously. Urobuchi defaults to writing 2-3 episodes when he doesn't get what he wants, it happened in Blassreiter, Gargantia and now A.Z.

The plot point wouldn't have been convoluted if handled properly. They could have easily have just have Mars's resource problem come from the usage of Aldnoah, Yes Mars is advanced and that advancement is also their biggest problem. Then to bring up the bring up the general problem of rampant corruption that they have with their government, which makes the problem harder to solve. Keep Eggs and Asshime dead have second season more focus on Marian side, have war culminate while being used as a backdrop for a coup d'etat on Mars, meanwhile Earthside has it's own major shift in power as UFE starts to crumble. Insert big revelation, big final battle, and the Martians move back to Earth and abandon Aldnoah.

A decent writer could have easily addressed the problem and found a solution. Then again Aldnoah writers weren't decent writers.

Zachary Jenkins
Zachary Jenkins

Isaac Flores

They do include random references we haven't seen before (such as that Slaine outfit) but they're far from complete. Their selection process is random and redundant. There's a bunch of images (literally 6 pages) of Inaho's white pilot suit with and without shadows and accessories but there isn't a single reference of Slaine's prison outfit. There isn't a single reference of Orlane in both books but there is a reference of the Twin Gemini characters. Random would be the right word to describe these. You would expect that with two large books to fill, even if they have to include backgrounds and whatnot, by splitting pages they could include things such as what the uniforms would look like without jackets, but instead you get the same artwork repeated over and over again filling up an entire page. The character section is honestly disappointing if you already bought magazines and other books before because you had seen most of it already. The props and backgrounds section is decent, though.

I like reading interviews but I'm not crazy about them. I'm mostly interested in artwork and in-universe information such as the propaganda brochures distributed before the show started. IV has a lot of art in the BD booklets, but alas.

Cameron Perry
Cameron Perry

Their selection process is random and redundant.
That's really a shame. Well, I was just interested in more trivial info on Slaine anyway.

The props and backgrounds section is decent, though.
This does sound appealing, because I enjoyed those. However, I have the guidebooks so it's not really interesting enough. The insides of the Vers kats seem pretty nice from what I've seen.

As for the propaganda brochures I think I just have some stuff from Archivez 2.

The issue isn't the plot point being convoluted, it's that it doesn't make sense. It's not consistent with all see of amazing capabilities of martian technology in the show that could easily solve the problems the show claims are unsolvable. They are just taking the audience for fools.

Then again Aldnoah writers weren't decent writers.
Yes but not because they didn't follow that outline. Why on earth would they abandon aldnoah or rather why would aldnoah, their most precious resource that can help them sustain themselves cause them resource problems.

Urobuchi wrote the plot and the history of Earth and Vers; Aoki created the characters and their storylines.
This is so misleading and inaccurate. Urobuchi did come up with how Vers worked politically and economically but Takayama is the one that sharpened up the details of the background story. In fact, Mars wasn't even a thing, they only put it there as a placeholder planet when the idea first surfaced. They, plural. It's not just one person behind everything. Aoki didn't create all characters by himself either, Inaho being an example of that. Slaine too isn't Aoki's character, he's Urobuchi's. Aoki did tweak him up but it's the same kind of tweak that Takayama did to the planet's background.

Atsushi Saito's doujinshi
The most recent one isn't as long as you probably imagine it to be. Maybe it's just me, but there's too much Hime and the rough sketches were replaced with more polished versions that look plain in comparison. Some older drawings aren't included. Can't say I recommend it unless you're a big fan of the artist's work.

For all that Aldnoah is capable of doing the show was consistent with calling it a power source which expends energy. However they've never once shown Aldnoah to have the ability to do things like create water and oxygen from nothing, or make infertile land fertile. They also never once explain where it's power comes from. By simply saying that the power comes from the planet itself they explain away a lot. They explain why it's pointless to terraform the planet, because they'd just end up being dried up by Aldnoah anyway. They explain why a technologically advanced society hasn't found the solution yet by the corrupted nobles hogging the resources to themselves, and that they will never willingly give up aldnoah. Hell it would even justify the existence of a group of nobles willing to assassinate the only monarch left to pass on aldnoah rights. Again it's not really convoluted just poorly thought out out.

Why on earth would they abandon aldnoah or rather why would aldnoah, their most precious resource that can help them sustain themselves cause them resource problems.
You do remember that the planet had been previously inhabited before the previous inhabitants abandoned the planet along with Aldnoah right? The explanation would explain why the previous inhabitants left the planet and Aldnoah behind. As for why the the Martians continue to use aldnoah regardless of the consequences they could easily say that either they don't know, don't care, or both, it doesn't effect them anyway since they don't live on Mars. Also it's called irony, and having a some incredible and seemingly infinite power come from a dangerous source is a fairly common sci-fi trope.

Yes but not because they didn't follow that outline.
Actually I think that the problem is the opposite, they planned too much and around characters whose purpose was to return to status quo.

One of them, yeah. Sadly that image you posted is not in it. I don't even know if that one is from one of his, it could be from another animator's doujin's guest appearances. Gotta catch 'em all if you want to see everything. I really like this image that has Rayet and her father sitting and eating (cooking?), as well as all Earth related images. There's this one with Okisuke, Calm, Inko, Nina, Slaine and Inaho about to cross a street in school uniforms, Slaine jokingly patting(?) Inaho's back. Pretty cute and tiny.
