The newspaper I posted literally had to leave Sweden and put their offices in Estonia because they were being cracked down on by Swedish prosecutors for writing "hate articles". This particular newspaper is one of the top ranked Swedish news sites, so that's a positive sign.

It works that you are fined a sum a day(that was very low in sweden btw think it's 500nok here).
So pay the fine or go to jail. You can't pay your self out of everything though, it's just smaller sums such as this. So if you get caught with just a few grams of weed, you are given day fines, pay or go to labour camp. If not you are caught with lets say 100-500g it's mandatory labor camp. More and it's prison. This is here though, it might be a bit different there

No no, the court basically said, "Yes, the normal minimum sentence for hate speech is 1 month in jail, but since you have no prior criminal convictions, we will make you pay a fine and go on probation instead".
We have a thing called "day-fines" here where you pay a fine based on how much money you make in your job. So a 40-day fine means he pays a fine for how much money he would make if he works 40 days.
