No. We accepted Cyril and Methodius, helped them develop their alphabet and adapted it. Then their students spread its' seeds around eastern Europe, and eventually, Russian came out of it.
Each country's languages developed in varying ways, despite it all being pretty similar at first. Bulgarian, especially, had gone through many changes. We'd taken some of the grammar and vocabulary of our (non-slavic) neighbours', we got taken over by the Ottomans, which lead to even further changes - especially in loan-words (some even persist to this day). It was with the help of the Russians that we restored our country, and it was with some of their help that we restored our language - they've been using the original that the disciples of Cyril and Methodius were spreading around, and have managed to keep it relatively unsullied and pure (because they were good at not letting their territory get invaded) - with many improvements improvements made by them over the years. Yes, we might've taken some of the Russian improvements, but we didn't just take them, we mixed them with the improvements we'd made on our own and created Modern Bulgarian.
Macedonian is just Bulgarian with some Js.
