So, how's the progress on your manga?

viz.com/blog/posts/jump-s-universal-manga-contest

One of you has to have that new amazing idea that'll catapult you to a life of sleeping 3 hours a day for years until you catch a cold and die.

Wouldn't it be more profitable to have a patreon or something? I would give some bucks to a good mangaka if I like their stuff.

Elevens are stupid. More news at 11

>Patreon

Patreon is fucking cancer.

Any particular reason besides the cut they take?

Because the contest has a 6-7 month deadline I'm learning as much as I can and planning to sketch it out within the last few months and then taking a 2 week paid vacation from work to finish it.
Would have to earn 2k a month on Patreon just to break min wage. ShindoL only earns 3.1k.

It's not a manga if a non-Japanese person writes it. Manga means comic from Japan.

That only applies to filthy english speaking gaijin.

This is an English speaking website. If you wish to discuss 漫画, then you should go somewhere else.

>tfw too stupid to draw anime

Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.

I’m a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series)

I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!

I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Japan!

>tfw am actually writing mine right now but it isn't something that would ever in a million years fit in with the Shounen Jump demo

What's the usual/average wage for a published author in there? Also while they may make less you could argue that they have total creative freedom on their work

>I own several kimonos, which I wear around town
God what I would give to see the reactions of the surrounding people.

If it is getting released in Japan through a Japanese magazine, then it is a comic from Japan.

This would class it as a manga.

Your move.

>"you get roughly 10% of each manga sold"
Depends on how popular you are. 5 to 10% royalties x number of sales = profit??
source: google

Easy.

You just milk your American Fans and stop drawing at that fast speed.

mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=23957
OGAWA Burukku

this is consistent with western literature publication royalties. though there is usually an advance on royalties upon signing, I presume it might be similar in japan with manga.

>10% of each manga sold
Are you nuts?
Manga are sold at a minimum price.
At 300 yen per volume, 90% of it is production costs.
Of the 10% left the mangaka gets 10% at best.

Yep, I forgot the blog but it was from this girl who worked in Japan assisting the Prince of Tennis guy. Essentially you either make it big and relax or struggle constantly.

>make it big and relax
>and relax
That doesn't sound very Japanese.

1. Go to manga school
2. Graduate
3. Work with Editor
4. Fail
5. ...
6. Start a webcomic in the style you learnt while producing nary any pages (solicit donations via Paypal.)
7. Also get money from your Japanese Husband.
8. LAZE AROUND while collecting money for almost no work.
9. Wonder why you earn so little.

>make it big and relax
I think most of the authors that made it big forgot the bit about relaxing after.

For every ¥300 yen manga, the manga-ka gets ¥30. Wow, that sucks!

>kishimoto as a judge

Meh, have a better contest.

In contrast: This guy at least works hard. (For minimum wage as all Animators, but furthers his Art. Though he thinks that he amounts to something Art-wise.)

Did you respond to the wrong post or did you just not read it right?

Dunno man according to her he barely drew shit and left most of it to his workers. Odd thing was she was praising him doing this because it gave her the chance to do work on the series. Getting at the level POT had in Nippon is kinda not viable for most folks, and a one time success isn't enough. By making it big I mean making a franchise that has enough clout to bully your editors and publisher into fucking off for months at a time.

I have drafts written up and stick figure drawings in basic panels
No skill for anything else

Same
>It will take at least half a decade to be a somewhat decent artist
On the bright side, that's more than enough time to improve my shitty ideas.

Finally time to make Ghost Slide: the manga

I have a tablet but not even a computer. Good thing too I'd have made a female protagonist.

You don't need to be a good artist to be a good mangaka. Look at the earlier one piece chapters for example.

>Free art program
I'm already sold. 55 page oneshot for a chance at 10k? Fuck, there's no exuse to not enter this since we have fucking 6 months.

If you could submit multiple, Sup Forums should write one.

>One piece art
>Bad
What did he mean by this?

I hate the way most digital manga/webcomics look unless the artists are very good.
Pic related is me doodling

hey it's flute

How long did it took you to get to that level of skill?

Get Oda's dick out of your mouth. If you don't believe the art style for the earlier One Piece art is shit, then you're retarded.

I've been drawing ever since I was in Grade 1(at that time I was drawing everyday 4+ hours a day up until Grade 6). After that I slacked off and there are periods where I don't draw for months because I'm a lazy fuck.
I have failed every art class I've attended and only did one serious drawing every month of my 4 years of high school.
Tbqh I'm shit.

Not that guy, but what's so bad about it?
It's not spectacular, but I wouldn't say it's bad.
Now Soul Eater on the other hand, that was some ugly shit.

>Tbqh
Don't do that.

Haha, go fuck yourself. desu

flute a cute

There is zero (0) reason why everyone in Sup Forums shouldn't enter the contest.

but i cant draw for shit

>Getting at the level POT had in Nippon is kinda not viable for most folks
Yeah I think most people don't realize how popular PoT actually was in japan. It was like the first shounen series to intentionally target fujobucks.

That sure sounds shitty as fuck plus kishi as judge.

>sleeping 3 hours a day for years until you catch a cold and die.
But I'm already there. Except for the part where I die. I'll get there eventually.

>Misashi Kishimoto judging

>think of a cool concept
>write an amazing new series
>all the nips love it even if they won't admit it
>stop writing
>tell the fans that you're too busy playing Dragon Quest and just can't be bothered to write anything
