What is everybody's favorite setups for New Vegas?

Faction? Skills? Perks? Preferred weapons?

I'm interested in hearing some unique ways to play the game that sound doable.

Energy Weapons and Meltdown was always my favorite.

I kept a melee weapon on me too so I didn't blow myself up.

>New Vegas
>builds

Good one. You max everything out by level 40

The Oliver Swanick run

>5's in all specials except luck which is ten
>trait that requires glasses for per boost
>Tag Explosives, Barter and Survival
>Cannot level up speech at all
>Ally with powder gangers in goodsprings and wear their attire
>Kill Swanick to replace him, keep the lottery ticket on you at all times
>Can't start combat against humanid opponents without at least trying to talk to thema bout how you won the lottery
>Do as many power attacks as possible to get Lowenthals voice through the speakers constantly
>Allign with Legion

feels bad that the Legion never got the characterization they deserved

the only reason to ally with them as they are is if you're going full evil edgelord

I'm a slave to Lockpick/Speech/Science. I can't stand having certain checks unanswerable. Anyone else?

Dont forget youre a courier out to find Benny

>Faction

I try to stay on good terms with NCR since they own most of the settlements but I always side with house in the end

>Skills
Gun, Lockpick, Speech errday

>Preferred weapons
been awhile but I remember a hunting shotgun that was pretty fucking great with the shotgun surgeon perk

I really like the set up where you just spam VATS for every single enemy encounter in the entire game, kill 10-15 Deathclaws in the first hour or 2 worth of play, and where you run around the same dull brown/grey environment in a big doughnut shaped map, all the while being offered zero challenge and having caps being made redundant because you can just easily get an unlimited amount from the casinos (until they block you out). I also like the set up where you're given no oppounrtity to customise your guns and armour, so everyone's running round with the exact same set up at end game. I also like the pretentious, forced writing and also how it wasn't entirely a mainstream game when it was released so it still makes me feel like a super-cool outsider and against the grain of mainstream titles.

I'd be genuinely impressed at anyone who kills 10-15 deathclaws in the first 2 hours

Go to quarry, kill all deathclaws from distance, face no other challenge in the game.

With what?

Thanks to the invisible walls it's pretty hard to get in a posistion where you can fire from a distance without a deathclaw able to close the gap, but ill take your word for it

Why are you upset that you purposefully made the game easy?

Set up Realistic Weapons Damages and play it like it's STALKER.

>name character Boris
>small guns/science/survival
>small guns for use of ak-47
>science because you are a programer
>survival because you need to make home-made shashlik and bootleg vodka
>invest in useles program and terminal perks
>max charisma yet little-to-no speech
>lots of charm but slurred speech
>wear only adidas (install mods)
>destroy any and all toilets
>drink any booze you come across
>crouch for hours at a time
>invest in sneek for the cheeki breeki

Such is the life of

why not just hide the thread you fucking autist

Use sniper rifle, there are a number of ledges both inside and just outside of the quarry that'll allow you to get clear shots. Will take some time, but once it's done, it's done, zero challenge leftover pretty much.

I even started a new game went straight to lonesome road dlc and just waltzed through the whole thing without any real issues.

The ability to just freeze combat with VATS makes the game fundamentally, critically flawed. Loved the game at the time but can't imagine playing it after FO4 - all of your character development links back to the combat (for the most part) and given the combat is basically broken and so easy to cheese, it makes the concept of building up your character a bit fruitless and unrewarding.

Why not just role play?

>chaotic neutral aluritistc mix of nuking ncr/legion and helping freeside, followers and killing off bandits/powdergangers
>almost always high sneak and guns
>corona with ycs

my preferred load out is That Gun, a regular hunting rifle with a scope and a hunting shotgun, choked with slugs

Fucking Commie Red, Get off muh land.

>Use sniper rifle
Whered you get a sniper rifle an hour in? Also WHY are you even doing it if you think it ruins the game?

currently doing my own playthrough but rolling this anyway

I didn't purposefully make the game easy, notusing VATS for combat would have just been ridiculous becuase of how poor quality the combat/shooting and collision detection is. I'd understand if I'd set the difficulty to very easy, but this was the default setting and how the game was meant to be played. You could possibly hold it against me for saving before going to the casino and then just buying beast weapons from the vendor, but again that's just common sense. To not save before playing at the casino is just imposing a challenge on yourself which common sense would tell you otherwise not to do.

Great game at the time, in retrospect it was so fundamentally flawed. Can't understand the unreal amount of praise it's given....

This is the only way I play through anymore. Playing on Hardcore and making making ammo and aid/food more rare, and maybe the weather mod that adds in radstorms too. It gets wild.

Is there a sniper rifle in goodsprings or nearby? Genuinely curious in case I do a new game over christmas. Plus I hear that the DLC is super level balanced unlike the main game.

Plus there's thoughs Fucking cazadors. I swear, best reason to invest in explosives

sign me up baby

lets see this post get capped at the same 50 unique posters sharing the same opinions over and over.
Just fuck off already.

I'm ready

is there a way to make this game not boring like every TES trash game

How is B-lining to a specific location to farm exp and abuses gambling for caps not making the game easy on purpose? You can only buy most high level weapons after a certain level threshhold so even with quick saving, how'd you get a weapon with enough damage to take out all the deathclaws?

Number of places Im sure, can't remember exactly, happily can google it on your behalf if you debate it though.

I don't do it to ruin the game, I naturallt came at the quarry when heading in the direction of the casinos etc. and upon seeing a shit load of deathclaws, took cover in a nice sniping spot and proceeded to kill them off one by one. After having done so, realised that this ws the most difficult challenge in the entire game and I'd tackled it at a ridiculously low level, unintentionally and now the remainder of the game will offer me no further challenge. It's actually laughable - certainly given how NV fan boys seem to claim that Fallout 4 was dumbed down and made too easy lol

>caesar is a good guy meme

HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHA YEAH HE'S SO GREAT WITH HIS SHIT DRUGGED UP ARMY AND RAPING GUYS YEAH HE'S GREAT HE'S OBVIOUSLY THE HERO GUYS HE'S JUST LIKE US AM I RITE LOL FUCKING DEGENERATES

I HATE YOU FUCKING FAGGOT BITCH GAY ASS EDGEMEISTERS

How exactly can you kill 10-15 deathclaws in the first 2 hours?

Looks pretty nice, ENB?

Also forgot to add using the mod that adds in all of the drugs/chems with effects when you use them. I was going through looting the barns in the southeast part of the map, and stumbled across some shrooms. I made my guy take them just to see what happens, and not 2 minutes later a legion raid party comes at me. I took cover in a barn and got in to a huge firefight with them while my screen is tripping balls from the shrooms. It's one of my fondest NV memories by far.

The first sniper rifle I've got at camp mccaran.

Riot cop
>Get the perk that allows you to knock down enemies with shotguns.
>Get the perk that allows you to knock down enemies with melee weapons & the perk that makes you swing faster
>Get a baton & a riot shotgun
>Get a security guard uniform, the sierra madre armor is the best if you ask me
>Only use bean bags for the shotgun
>Knock down your enemies with the shotgun then knock them out (kill them)with the baton
>Make New Vegas free from criminals & raiders

So quite a bit a way into the game?

Not my picture, so I can't help you. Sorry user.

Possibly re:levelling for DLC but I was given a warning prior to starting saying that it was recommended I needed to be x level and I was absolutely nowhere near. Again, just spam first couple of enemies from distance, pick up loot and then from there keep going, rinse and repeat.

My memory of deathclaws is a little foggy, maybe im embellishing a bit and I did a few hours of grinding prior to doing it, can't remember exactly, but I remember strolling through lonesome road after having done next to no building up whatsoever, just literally went straught to it, and this was meant to be the hardest DLC available.

Not a hater, enjoyed the game thoroughly at the tim but can't fathom how it gets the praise it does, vs the hate that FO4 gets, when it has so many improvements from NV.

Theres only a handful of locations you can get a sniper rifle and they are all high level. Whered you get one if you were going straight from goodsprings to New Vegas?

Didn't go there to farm, as explained above, I went straight to lonesome road as was a new run through and had bought ultimate edition and wanted to see what it was like. Expected to be absolutely destroyed and have to go off and do 20+ hours of play minimum, but I just worked my way through it with little to no difficulty - I had done zero building up whatsover and strolled through the hardest DLC in the game.

k

Fair enough. People do tend to suck New Vegas's dick a lot but I guess it was a honest RPG rather than Fallout's 4 more bioware approach (Voice Protag stands out to me as the dumbest decision, even with all the perk stuff at least that was somewhat RPG ish.)

that sounds amusing actually, and you could use implants to make yourself robocop and just use a plasma defender

He could have possibly used the ratslayer in fairness, that plus chems, sneak/crit hits you could possibly kill them off but it'd take a pretty long time.

Because the improvements are pointless in a RPG if the story and roleplaying mechanics are not as good as the previous game.

Usually the people that praise NV while hating on FO4 don't give a shit about the combat improvements because you can have decent gunplay and combat in pretty much any other AAA shooter lately.

When people put NV over FO4, they are putting NV over FO4 in terms of RPG elements and quality. I personally enjoy the improvements, yes, but I never want to play FO4 again after a few hours because it's a boring sandbox/shooter game. and a lackluster RPG to boot.

...

>set difficulty on very easy
>look up best new Vegas builds, build character with max stats at lv 30
>kill everything with no resistance

This game is too easy, 0/10. No true patrician would play this game

throwing/stealth
>taking out the entire legion camp with spears 1 by 1 to get more spears

Been following the hick roleplay from this and I don't have OWB. What trait do I get instead of Hot Blooded?

NCR
GUNS, Repair, Barter
Light in Shining Darkness/ .357 magnum

you ok, man?

Oh, wow.... You're the same faggot autist from last time. Piss off.

>DRUGGED UP ARMY
So you didn't play the game I see.

Huge Fucking Nerd Play through
Mr. House/Yes Man
Energy Weapons, Science, Repair.
Minimum charisma, low strength endurance, Max Int and Perception.

Do everything any female NPC asks for, Make a toy/book collection, Unless a key quest or an older chick the moment any female npc says something nice you have to hit the "Goodbye" option and run out of the room. No Speech improvements allowed.

Exact same build as me.
Fuck off its mine

kek this salty faggot again

How does it feel that fo4 will NEVER EVER live up to NV? do you cry when you compare the metacritic pages?

>medicinal powder
>not drugs

Fuck right off delusional degenerate

Why does everyone hate this? I thought it was pretty good, I liked the atmosphere of the Divide and I even liked Ulysses even though he was a little edgy

Because Ulysses talks a lot of nonsense and uses 40 words when he only needs 4.

Now that is the build i use everytime.

With a little explosives on the side because fuck it why not.

>too much revealed about the Courier
>the tunnelers
>all the build up for Ulysses didn't pay off as he is a badly written character with piss poor motives
>Avellone pissing all over what makes Fallout unique by introducing the idea of nuking the NCR and Legion, thus erasing the post, post apocalyptic setting
>far too much recycled content and far too action orientated. Not enough time is put into story which is what separates FNV from 3 and 4
>rewards are pretty shitty. The armor you get from nuking is fine, but those grenade launchers are dogshit.
There are things I like about it though. The marked men's lore and design are top notch, and E-DE further cements itself as one of the better companions of the game.

damn i thought that was a really good oblivion mod for a second

The whole story of the DLC hinges on whether or whether not you could accept that your courier was responsible for the Divide.

The rest of it's just Operation Anchorage 2.0, but I admit the atmosphere is top tier; a better post-apocalyptic environment than DC for sure. The loot is fantastic too.

[ Intelligence 2 ] SO YOU TARDS STILL PLAY YOUR COWBOYS VS ROMANS BABY GAME THAT CAME OUT 6 YEARS AGO WHEN FALLOUT 4, AN ACTUAL FALLOUT GAME, IS AVAILABLE? YOU'RE FUCKING PATHETIC

This

FO4 is far superior, I agree, despite your poor delivery.

rell

I've never played any Fallout game before but everyone I speak to tells me that 4 is the best, then Fallout 3 and then new vegas?

>[lie]

[Speech 12%] So you fight the good fight with your shitposts here on Sup Forums?

>[ Intelligence 2 ]
Seems accurate considering you got this response.

NV was easy, if you guys wanna challenge do survival on 4. Such a satisfying experience

how viable is unarmed in Fallout 3/NV? I want to be a martial arts master of the wasteland and obliterate deathclaws with my fists

Was he right to do what he did?

[Barter 80/80] Hey pal, let me tell you something, Bethesda makes some quality games, and I would buy them all with DLCs for full price if I were you. And don't waste your time on New Vegas, it's a fanfic tier game set in epic California. XD with le ebin Romans and Cowboys with a pussified brotherhood for no reason.

Why does everyone hate on Fallout New Vegas? I didn't think it was that bad a game at all for a spin off - compare it to a shitty Final Fantasy spin off from one of the main Final Fantasy games and it wasn't a bad effort whatsoever!

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic? Why do some people on here get like this over games they like? I'm just asking what's peoples opinion on it because I heard it's not meant to be good, but obviously different people have different opinions

Both very viable. Lots of perks and weapons which cater to unarmed builds.

>FNV is the spinoff
New Vegas is the real Fallout 3, considering it reuses concepts from Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3.

There are pretty good perks like 50% more damage against abnominations. but you need to level both unarmed and meele + strength to get all the good perks

Fo4 is of equal overall quality to FNV with quality in different areas
FNV is of much greater quality than Fo4 when judged purely on RPG aspects
Fo4 is of much greater quality than FNV when judged purely on FPS aspects

Both are objectively superior to Fo3 in almost every aspect; but too often is FNV given too much credit as a result of direct comparison to it, FNV is still a hugely flawed game (albeit mostly as a result of using Fo3 engine/content) and this is usually ignored in fan shitflinging

Given his goddamn options, I can sympathize.

He still shoulda figured out how to put a bullet into the braincases of his fellows instead of trying to do this roundabout prison warden bullshit.

SO MUCH SHITPOSTING ABOUT NEW VEGAS!!!!

Look, fair enough it wasn't as good as Fallout 4, but Fallout 4 was made 6 YEARS LATER, had much more development time and money spent on it, so obviously it's gonna have more shit to do/bigger map etc.

New Vegas was fucking destined to be hated on from the beginning after obsidian were looking to follow up from Fallout 3 but it was no where near as bad as some of the shit I'm reading here. Yeah the combat was pretty shitty, but so what, there's so much more to the game than just the combat. The music, the setting, some of the towns that you visit and stuff were all pretty cool.

I hate all this bullshit here though, New Vegas was not the bad of a game whatsoever, quit the bullshit posts people

This is either new or a copy pasta I've never seen before.

2/10 because I replied.

>Why does everyone hate on Fallout New Vegas?
They don't?

>He browses Sup Forums

The better question is why isn't there more hate for Fallout 3?

What did he mean by this?

Normies first Fallout and people have a love boner for Bethesda.

first get a mod that severely reduces skill points

I tend to play a generic drifter every time. Guns and speech tend to be musts.

I got sperbs like little jangle jenglo (hingel hangel)

stealth sniper

Unarmed/melee all day every day.
>super slam
>slayer
>piercing strike
>implant GRX
>Greased Lightning or Blade of the West
Everything you could ever need.

LET 'ER RIP

I always feel like I end up with a Revolver Ocelot expy regardless of what I set out to do.
>End up primarily using Lucky (the engravings may offer no tactical advantage, but I love to reload during a battle. There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber no matter what other weapons I end up with
>Befriend then betray almost every group until even I no longer understand my character's motivations.
>End up siding with yes man after appearing to be serving Mr House all along.
I'm actually pretty good at the game too.

>Befriend then betray almost every group until even I no longer understand my character's motivations.
Also what on earth do you mean you're good at the game? There's not a particularly high skill ceiling, beyond basic FPS skills

rol

>The whole story of the DLC hinges on whether or whether not you could accept that your courier was responsible for the Divide.
He's not responsible. he just brought a thing there. As in, he used to be a courier. That's all.

Fallout 2, 3 and 4 are way more limiting in the main character's backstory.

Ulysses is literally shooting the messenger, there's nothing compelling about why he hates you, he's just a pretentious idiot.

Story-wise none of the DLCs were that good.
