Probably. You can play the Classic HD version with better graphics and a perfect translation, and all of the original mechanics, and they've said both the mechanics and some plotlines will be different in the remake so it will be worth it to play both.
I'd say try it at least, if you're interested you might as well play the original first.
I believe the forward 'wall' is meant to be something that slides back/up.

A concern I have is the characters. We will never have interactions and banter between Nier, Weiss, Emil and Kaine again. Shit was fucked in the first game, but the characters weren't gloomy and depressed all the time.
As for the setting, Earth is starting to get reclaimed by nature, so we should see some greenery a lot.
