Not entirely sure where to post this (here or Sup Forums) but I need some advice.
TLDR 38" ultrawide or vive/oculus
So right now I have a fine 32" ultrawide LG that I got for 300. It's fine, but not 4k or anything. My new job has been making me bank so I'm in the mood to blow my wad.
LG just came out w/ a 38" ultrawide @ 3840x1600 which looks sexy, but there's also a game for the rift called "I expect you to die" that looks fun as fuck, and steam virtual desktop looks like a lot of fun to mess with. Also I have the room to do room scale.
Do you all think VR is still too much in the early adopter's phase to pick it up, or that Ultrawide monitors are a meme (I like my LG, but more real estate would be nice).
Just get a VR set and 1 to 2 decent monitors (remember there are things other than size, like response time, color saturation, contrast ratio, viewing angle, etc)

Would you say Vive or Rift now that it has special controls?
Robert Perez
There are upsides to both, I personally would go with the rift
Bentley Gutierrez
Vive is better but you should wait till next year to get the headset. Wireless plus controllers and base station 2.0 are already on the way. Rift is dogshit.
For now get an ultrawide, but 38" seems fucking massive and costly, are you sure it would be able to play games well?
Matthew Walker
It seems fine, at least this one. I'm running 2X980 and was going to upgrade those in the next generation.
So basically what you're saying is wait for vive next year? Hmm, well that would at least be an extra year for the tech to mature, what are the pros of the base station 2.0?
Grayson James
Non-meme reply in order from best to worst:
>Get a good 1440p, high framerate monitor. >Get two 1440p, 60Hz monitors >Get your 38" ultrawide that's memey but not objectively bad >Get a Vive (don't actually, absolutely not worth it right now)
Adam Phillips
It's better and cheaper, the new controllers look cool, and the wireless headset has obvious pros.
What resolution is the display? Is it even a monitor? I'm just thinking about input lag mainly, that does not seem like a gaming monitor in any way. Might want to consider getting one of those 34" ones.
Outside of gaming though, it would be nice to have the multi tasking space.
Writing reports, researching and shit. I feel like both options might work for that, meme-worthy though they may be.
David Wilson
3840x1600 with "1ms motion blur reduction" whatever the fuck that means.
I'm sure a predator would be better gaming-wise, but it's another 400+. 2k for a monitor seems like a stretch.
Brayden Gray
Aha that monitor really isn't for gaming, you'll have some major fuckery playing games with that aspect ratio. I would NOT get that if you're planning on ever downsampling your games or even playing them in fullscreen mode. You'll be playing in windowed mode for the rest of your life.
I agree about the cost though, I want to buy one but the price is ridiculous.
Kayden Myers
I want VR to hurry up and become affordable, so please waste your money on it.
Landon Thomas
the vive has the benefit of 3d porn which is a pro that is not to be overlooked. I still fap to 3d about 40-50% of the time since I got my vive and it's been like 6 months. I still fap to doujins and stuff all the time of course but the vive has become a pillar in my fapping portfolio.
Alexander Lopez
what do you fap to
Aiden Lewis
a second monitor is better for that kinda thing. you wont know how helpful it is until you have a two monitor setup. even if the second monitor is shitty. I use a 24" vizio tv for my second monitor that I paid like $150 for
Chase Moore
This could seriously tip the scales for me.
Go on...
Cameron Ward
Keep in mind what I said earlier, about Vive getting new controllers and stuff next year. Best to wait, ideally even wait for better resolution in the screen.
VR is really fun to show people though.
Camden Bell
Since this is a monitor thread I'll go ahead and ask.
I currently have 29" LG 21:9 1080p monitor. I use it for PC gaming as well as my PS4 Pro hooked up to it.
I like the 21:9 but half the games don't even support it on PC and none support it on PS4.
So what is a good 4k 60hz monitor to get? 28" would probably be max for size since I don't have a ton of room. Want to keep it around $300 if possible.
Dominic Bailey
>So what is a good 4k 60hz monitor to get? 28" would probably be max for size since I don't have a ton of room. Want to keep it around $300 if possible. doesn't exist
Blake Scott
for pig3d stuff I use this pornbay.org/torrents.php?taglist=vr.porn I have a 4TB Hd that i'm quickly filling up. we're starting to see many of the main actresses get involved in 3d porn as it becomes more mainstream. though granted your shitty phone can run this kind of stuff, it of course looks better on a vive or oculus.
for animu i'm using Honey select right now but sexy beach was pretty good too. SFM artists are also starting to make VR scenes. Just head over to the honey select threads on /h/ or /d/ and you can see the kind of crazy scenes people have set up. which you can stand up, fully walk around, kneel down, and view from every angle in with the vive. I really like how they made it so easy to share characters and even entire scenes by simply posting a jpeg all the data is inside. there's also augmented reality mods (think pokemon go) i've fapped to my waifu laying on my desk masturbating or hanging in the center of my room from the ceiling by chains and ropes being fucked by a train of guys.
Hudson Powell
>Want to keep it around $300 if possible.
I think your specs by definition bump you outside of the $300 range.
Maybe ebay or /hardwareswap/ on reddit (I know, but it's a good community)
Cameron Gonzalez
Not him, but the porn is the shit. Both 3D and 2D feels immersive and much better than regular porn.
Lincoln Howard
Just get the monitor.
Jordan Miller
master race pirates all games anyway, that article means jack shit.
Justin Young
>DayZ designer took to reddit
It's like you really want me to buy into VR
Adrian Gomez
VR is definitely the way to go, but ideally you should wait for a few more months to see what happens with Rift and Vive CV2, which we should be getting more definitive info about in the first half of 2017.
Andrew Kelly
are those hand sensors?
Should I just wait until we have gloves that can see my fingers in game?
Carter Richardson
wtf man your becoming a zombie
Daniel Murphy
> i've fapped to my waifu ... hanging in the center of my room from the ceiling by chains and ropes being fucked by a train of guys.
Why would you want to see that happen to your waifu? How fucking depraved.
Jose Parker
Can you blame him?
At this point, VR is the future.
Shitty job, crap apartment, tfwnogf, fuck it, you can just plug in and suddenly you're in a mansion.
I've been kicking around this idea of virtual tourism, not just google maps shit, but supply ghetto kids in India, or France, or the bahamas with 360 gopros and have people buy virtual tours. They could see the world in real time for like 1/4th of the cost.
This is how you sell VR, hapless people that aren't ever going to go out and see the world for themselves.
Cap this user, it's the real future.
Owen Richardson
Such cring how you're so passionate about something that'll fail once again. It may sound like a dream to you but it comes at a financial lost for dev teams.
Joshua Scott
as someone with a 21:9 it's not worth it for multitasking. 2 monitors is much better (3 if you have the dolla)
Isaac Foster
I'm passionate about making money off of people's lethargy. Plus this generation is poised to actually make less that their parents did.
Gas is becoming more expensive, people are afraid of terrorism, NEETs. I'm telling you, getting in on the ground floor of virtual tourism is where it's at.
Aiden Roberts
They don't do full positional tracking of each finger, rather they use the capacitive pressure sensors to determine how open or closed your grip is. this can still be used to 'detect' eg. if you're pointing any particular finger, but it's not like LeapMotion where it's tracking every minutiae. They're basically a direct answer to Oculus Touch, and upping the ante by allowing you to fully release your hold (fully extend all fingers).
Easton Ortiz
>a financial lost
Zachary Green
You're already halfway there with Touch for Oculus. You can point, thumbs up, make a fist and grab shit with your hands.
Oliver Foster
I've had the opportunity this past year and a bit to be working in QA with Oculus Rift, Vive and PSVR. I can tell you with 100 percent certainty two things, first is that the Rift is currently the best system, the touch controls blow Vive and Move out of the water, the headset is the most comfortable and easiest to set up, my only complaint is that the touch controls use batteries like some kind of ancient tech and that after thousands of hours of use the headset begins to deteriorate, though mostly in the face cushion, which is easily replaceable. The second point is that VR will definitely be huge BUT it's still not worth it, there hasn't been a game yet that I can't beat in less than 4 hours, and these usually cost upwards of 35 bucks. Don't get me wrong, a lot of these games are insanely fun, superhot and dead and buried come to mind, in fact as it stands dead and buried is the only game I can see myself playing more than 10 hours of. For the most part it's all the same shit though.
My advice to you would be to take that money, put it away for now, and come back in exactly 2 years, then buy a rift, assuming the games hit their stride, which I am confident they will.
