Who buys comics nowadays?

floppies? only nostalgiafags buy them constantly.
trades/"graphic novels" are popular with everyone else

95% of the populace only cares about comics when its presented in AAA Blockbuster movie format and Hot Topic/Spencers t-shirts.

Sonic has had a comic series running since 1993, and over the years other franchises have gotten treatment. Examples being Halo, Mega Man, Tomb Raider, Mario, you name it.

>Street Fighter/GI Joe was a thing

...

...

IIRC GI Joe (or at least whatever parent company owns the brand) handled the first toy lines for Mortal Kombat and (maybe) Street Fighter

At one point, Archie made pitches for some Nintendo series including Kirby, Metroid and Mario.
Super Mario Adventures is still the best though

...

i think GI joe did the movie toys.
i remember having a blanka toy that had the 90s GI joe joints.

Adding to that list would be inFamous, Uncharted, God of War, Dark Souls, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Metal Gear Solid, Mortal Kombat,Devil May Cry, Dead Space, Mass Effect, and Gears of War.

...

With how many times SEGA has been taken to court over the Archie comic I can't blame Nintendo for telling them to piss off three times.

It's understandable, but still somewhat disappointing.

Nintendo Power had some pretty dope comics like SMA and Link to the Past
Super Metroid was pretty weak though

a whole two times?

Super Mario adventures may be my favorite Mario adaptation. It just works so well.

>mfw Akira Himekawa later referenced this comic in her own adaptation of LttP
cool shit

God, Nintendo needs to return to comics and animation (Pokemon aside) already. It is so fucking overdue.

They went to court multiple times for Penders because he kept delaying shit. Eventually they got fed up and told Archie to end it immediately or lose the license.

They said they were planning on moving into more multimedia ventures lately.
Perhaps Udon could do something if Archie can't?

And now Fulop is taking them to court.

Himekawa ripped off a lot of stuff from the Nintendo Power comic.
Don't know how they got away with it.

...

Eh, I don't think a lot of Udon's output is very good, and they don't have enough money to put much out. Dunno who else there is, though. IDW, maybe? Dark Horse? Return to Valiant?

...

...

Well IDW did do that promotional Skylanders comic with DK and Bowser in it, so they've at least got a foot in the door.

...

>Invader Zim
Literal cancer

I think that was the first American comic to have Nintendo characters in it in like 20 years.

Dump over.

Dynamite's going a Killer Instinct comic, and they've apparently got plans for a whole line of video game comics.

...

Holy shit always wondered why robotnik was the only human in the show. Guess now I know they got wiped out. Now I'm left wondering why Robotnik lived and no one else did.

...

Which show?

I know some humans/Overlanders were in space. Can't remember if Robotnik was in the comic (the writers confirmed he and Snively were in space on the show).

The comic takes (or took) place thousands of years after ayys bombed the planet. Humans are still around.

Sonic the hedgehog animated series: youtube.com/watch?v=fMa9Iot1Ves

They didn't get wiped out. A small population survived over the 10,000 years leading up to Sonic's generation. They became the Overlanders and Robotnik was one of them. During a war, he defected to the Mobian side and eventually betrayed them.
Another group of humans instead lived in a mountain over the years after their escape ship crashed into a mountain. This is the location of Station Square in the old time line and that was nothing more than a holographic city in a hollowed out mountain. They saw the animals beginning to mutate and out of fear of the aliens returning they just stayed in their mountain like dwarves.

But that's all comic stuff. In the show, it's never explained.

Some comics are pretty alright. I got the link to the past comic that i saw in my local nintendo mag way back then.

Oh SHIT forgot all about Snively. Its coming back

>not tapping the ass of a catgirl who's completely down to fuck and just fine with it being a casual fling with no commitments
And Takei says Sulu wasn't gay.

Just going to leave this here

Humans and Overlanders aren't the same species according to that continuity. Robotinik was an Overlander. Humans still existed in some underground city. Overlanders are descendants of humanity that were mutated because they were on the surface when they got fucked by the bombs. Shit was retarded.

was she raped?

Wow..that's actually deeper than I thought they would ever do for what I thought was just a lighthearted children's comic.

The only real way to tell the difference was the number of fingers they had. Overlanders had three fingers + a thumb, Humans had four fingers + a thumb.

Don't look further user, Ken Pender's madness should stay buried

Funny enough, Nintendo rejected this because having a comic would require Mario to talk and have a personality and the higher ups were not okay with that, especially Miyamoto

KNOTTED

what do you think

Sup Forums here. First reply was right: Comics are a dead medium.

It started out as a lighthearted children's comic.
Then they started worldbuilding and adding drama, and anime. It became a real big clusterfuck.

>Only Mario Media is from the 80's
>Hasn;t had a TV show since SMW
>Hasn't had a comic since valiant
>One old OVA
>Hasn't had an animu period
>Manga is some complete garbage that's as old as Berserk

Sometimes I wonder if Mario really is popular anymore or if people just remember the first game and that's it.

>Someone got paid for this.

And yet they were okay with the numerous Super Mario cartoons as well as the feature film.

The most bullshit part of the pre-reboot Sonic comic is they managed to make a mother who's mentally in her early 40s with a physical body in her mid-20s and there's only one good porn pic of her.

That's because Nintendo is very strict with licensing their IP after the movie bombed

Why is Shadow so based in the Archie comics?

He wasn't always.

Because by being "the serious guy" he's the ultimate straight man to the wackiness of everyone else. That and he really like his bike.

Source? I don't recall hearing that and it wouldn't explain Fortune Street (where he had dialog) or games like Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi (where he shows signs of personality)

It got too deep, user.
For every little cool thing they managed to pull off, there at least 15 batshit insane things to go along with it. ESPECIALLY if Penders was involved.

Around the time Amy became more tolerable and Knuckles isn't that much of a jobber and fool. He actually came up with a really smart plan for the Master Emerald at the end of the latest arc he was in. Comic Eggman is a real mean fucker when he's not fighting Sonic

What are you reading currently?

>Oh shit we need to implement Station Square!
>Let's make it an underground city full of humans unaffected by mutations that have been there for thousands of years without anyone knowing
>The humans are different from Overlanders because they have 5 fingers instead of 4 meaning they're different species!
Who came up with this shit?

...

that fucking shit wrapped in ass dark souls comic, why

Can they still see me?

She went to jail

Who was responsible for that Titan Tails Shit? Every time I see someone mention the comics I get either that or some page of a dozen or so Knuckles clones and something about a dude called Enjerk or a green Sonic named Scruge

Currently reading Grant Morrison's Animal Man, The Maxx, and The Goon.
Also going to try and tackle Cerebus High Society and early Hellboy

They didn't have much of a choice, user. They already had this world without humans in it. How else were they going to explain a city full of them appearing out nowhere?
They already did this "it was out of phase the whole time" bit with the echidnas.

They already buttfucked themselves by making a SATAM comic the official Sonic Comic adaptation.

Not that the reboot universe follows the games that well but at least they try.

You'd think Penders, but no. It was actually Karl Bollers who did it.

What about the hotline miami comic? And the Portal one?

>They already had this world without humans in it.
That's the funny part, Overlanders were the humans but now they weren't with the introduction of Station Square.

Man, that is some static dialogue.

Their own fault for not ensuring they had veto power over any script. The movie was a pile of kangaroo shit.

That's nothing. Try reading the Donald Duck comics.

No, they were Overlanders, and they were wiped out.

So when are we getting more news on that animated Mario movie from the Sony e-mail leaks?

>how come video games don't have comics
>turns into a sonic thread
good job, OP

All I have is Gravity Rush slice of life.

Good luck finding the old Scrooge Mcduck comics. Disney is trying to sweep under the rug that time he chased a bunch of african americans off their village so he could mine under it for the gold.

Still, nothing and I mean nothing beats the weird as fuck Flintstones comic currently running.

There might have been only one comic based off a video game I would read. But that was cancelled..

...

Overlanders are humans with 4 fingers on each hand instead of 5. They were the "humans" of the setting.

Anything adapted from Robert E. Howard's work. Savage Sword (Dark Horse) and some older obscure adaptations from the 90s.

For current shit, I usually follow Superman and G.I. Joe.

...

The current Flintstones comic is astonishingly good actually

If they've invented candles then why even need the bird?

Too late to make me feel sad user.

To make it look nice

He has a no-nonsense attitude.

>A lamp is a candle taped to a bird
>An eggbeater is an eggbeater taped to a bird

Well its supposed to represent a machine eggbeater.

Just like how we have normal ones and machine ones

It's their own fault. They took wayy too fucking long for Blues to become Protoman and dragged out the games. It's almost like the problem with new universe of Sonic comics. Way too much world building and OCs for the fans to give a shit about, game characters show up but they are just another part of the world instead of the focus of it. Team Chaotix have the spotlight now but they're not the main stars of the arc, that falls on this princess chick, her guard, her other guard who has past with the criminal group and I think one of the egg bosses's minor fleets. Remember that time Megaman got beat up by the deadly six and will powered himself back up only to have his head blown off by his own weapon? For a robot Megaman acts far too much like a human
