Trust me 9S gets better as the game goes on.

The first two are different perspectives. The third one is a continuation of the first two. The fourth is a proper ending and the fifth expands on that.

Ending A for 2B, Ending B for 9S and then it pulls sequel within a game so you start route C. (After route C you get chapter select) After it you change the character for final boss to get ending D. And THEN you fight final boss again to get ending E.

Game's good but the cast absolutely IS shit. I enjoyed Automata's theme and narrative but I swear to god people are out of their minds if they think this cast was good. Taro focused way too much on the scenarios and not the characters, I read Taro writes his stories backwards and it really showed in Automata. Amazing ideas, bad execution as far as story goes. Especially when you compare the cast to the cast of NieR, they are so bad.

Since DG3 there is actually a lore reason behind multiple endings still being all canon.
Multiple timelines/dimensions/worlds whatever branching from specific persons making specific things.

You are playing the same scenario for A and B but the gameplay is different due to your playable character changing. After B the storyline continues from the A/B ending. It took me a long time to get through A, but you know what you have to do in B and can get through it as quickly as possible.

You go in for 2b and stay for the game making the twink suffer at maximum

A and B is first half from 2 different perspectives,
CDE is like sequel within the game, completely new things.

B - repeat of A, but from a different character's perspective, includes new shit, also has repeat boss fights
C - 2nd half of the game
D - alternate ending to C (only repeats the final fight of C, then includes new cinematics)
E - TRUE ending

the other 21 endings and just what if scenarios and secret endings
the only time you have to repeat shit is route B, once you get to C the game will take care of itself, pushing you to the end
