Why are current MtG games so lacking?

Why are current MtG games so lacking?
Every other mainstream TCG has a good video game behind it, while Magic has none.

Magic Duels is a buggy piece of shit and still better than Hearthstone, Shadowverse and whatever else there is.

XMage exists, as long as you don't mind not having Mirage for some reason.

magic is the most mechanically complex mainstream tcg which makes it difficult to translate to digital format. That and wotc has tons of incompetent staff that have no idea how to properly create a digital card game.

I'd get into MTGO if it didn't look like something made back in 1995.

This desu.
They should take a page offa the guys that made Xmage because that runs a hundred times better than anything Wizards has thrown together including their official MTGO client. I shouldn't have to fucking reset it every 2 hours.

Theres also the rumor that wizards downplays the digital medium cause they dont want to suffer massive losses in the physical one by making a decent mtg video game

thats not true, yugioh has cards with 2 pages of micro print to explain rules only found on that specific card

mtgs complexity comes from cumulative simple card interactions

Half of that text is usually from the refusal of keywords

current MtG games are lacking because perfection has already been reached.

YGH doesn't have keywords.

MtG:
>Flying
>Annihilator

YGH
>If this monster's attack would be blocked, ignore that block unless the blocking monster has flying or reach
>Whenever this creature declares an attack, the defending player must remove two monsters from the battlefield and send them to the graveyard

Make a game that has all the current sets in it and updates for new sets and I'd buy it. Otherwise I'll stick to Cockatrice

But drafts and commander only work within a personal, social context.

I liked the Microprose game when I was a kid.

It'd still be a nice way to test decks out that looks and functions more smoothly than Cockatrice. It's the only use a Magic game would have, really. It's not worth paying money for a game that won't even have all the cards in it.

Yu-Gi-Oh is retarded shit for autistic little weebs and you're a clown for playing it.

Shadowverse has waifus, so it wins by default.

>Cuckatrice
lmao

I think they're afraid to make a working client with all formats cause of the physical purchase revenue they'd miss out on.

imagine a working client with all formats available, old sets and new, standard and legacy/modern

it would literally stomp hearthstone out almost completely, the game is just so much better.

Name one thing wrong with Cockatrice.

No rules enforcement

That's not true, though. You can make lobbies for specific formats

Stop playing with shitheads.

It can never be as smooth as HS because of priority and most phones can't handle the amount of scripts that need to run.

The game does not have automatic rules enforcement, so if you're wrong about the rules, you never find out.

Most people that bother to actually play on Cockatrice follow rules, and if you try to break them you'll get called out because the game logs every move.

>you're a clown for playing it.
where did he say he even did, you mungo?

>having a 3 hour long argument with some kid when XMage exists and works great

>Xmage
>better
Now there's the real joke
Xmage is worse functionality-wise

How so? All cards work fine (except eye of the storm but I think that's fixed now), you manually pass priority with several more automatic options. What's your complaint?

Oh definitely, reading how hard it was to introduce vehicles into MTGO was pretty indepth.

In Magic Duels the AI just randomly crew vehicles at any time for no reason.

Mostly how the game handles deckbuilding as well as the UI

I don't see the problem with deckbuilding, except when the cards end up out of name order for some reason. The UI is no worse than MTGO.

>tfw no digital Netrunner client

MTG is too complicated to be played quickly.

There are way too many rules to memorize, so the game is inaccessible to the casual player.

You should expect a MTG2 revision soon that uses rules similar to hearthstone, perhaps with the ability to play simple interrupt effects.

I'd be amazed if it wasn't already in development.

If not, your shit hobby is going to continue to decline. Only autists buy and play this shit.

>Only autists buy and play this shit.
Sounds like a perfect fit for you, then.

MtG is simple and easy to pick up. People aren't that stupid.

>Hearthstone faggot is too stupid to comprehend MtG
Like pottery

I was just saying if they can "translate yugioh to digital format" then they can do the same for magic. I Prefer magic not that its really relevant to the argument.

Actually, every good ygo game makes up its own rules or is not in the tcg vidya format.

Shit nigga that is probably the best mtg vidya they've made. Too bad it's only ok. Much better than the PS1 game though.

>MTG is too complicated to be played quickly.

That's demonstrably false.

If you have to manually pass priority, which is how it should be in an electronic version, it plays slower. The problem is that if you can't hold priority, you get a shitfest like Duels where you can't cast instants during your main phase .

That game was great, fuck arcanis and his counterspell shit tho

DUELS OF THE PLANESWALKERS was a decent series while it lasted, granted you couldn't fully build decks from the ground up, but it's decent for beginner/intermediate players

Because modern MtG sucks. Scars/Innistrad/Return to Ravnica was over 5 years ago. The game is really becoming Hearthstone+

That's not Shandalar

Standard sucks, Modern's fun.

Too many complex interactions and rules. I imagine it's an absolute fucking nightmare to program.

>return to ravnica
>good

This.
>T1
>Black Lotus
>Mox Jet
>Mox Sapphire
>Mishra's Workshop
>Contract from Below
>Black Lotus
>Mind Twist for 6
>Juggernaut
>pass turn

If you want to see Magic break, play Shandalar.

what the fuck?

so legacy/vintage isn't even playable?

>MTG is too complicated to be played quickly.
damn you really have swallowed blizz cock too hard. MTG is actually easy to start if you're not retarded

Name one good card that was in Mirage and no other set.

Magic has Shandalar at least, which is one of the best TCG vidya to exist.

I need more TCGs adapted to video games so I can try them out. Games like Pokemon TCG or Duel Masters:Shadow of the Code.

>tfw there's a lot of card games you haven't tried out because they don't have a simulator, you don't have money, they are from foreign countries or you simply didn't knew about them

LED

Lion's Eye Diamond

Post your cardfu

Wizards doesn't give a single shit about their digital products.

Actually, Wizards doesn't give a single shit about any of their products. Standard has been absolute ass to play in ever since BFZ came in.

>Ban cards in Standard for more diverse decks
>Not banning Gideon

Planeswalker cards are a mistake

Wish she was useful outside EDH.

Retards, that card is shit, deal with it.

i forced a modern deck around this card

Jesus, that new art sucks.

>mfw Hearthstone is more profitable than Magic despite having 1/10th of the complexity
The managers at WotC are fucking retarded. They have no fucking idea where the money is.

It was in standard, you were just too stupid to know how to play it.

Wizards never touches standard though. The ban a few months ago was the first since mindsculptor.

first one i found, i prefer the angels and demons art myself

When has
>we want the casual audience
ever worked out in the fans favor?

>Eldritch moon made me visably depressed
she will always be pure in my heart.

I'm so sorry user

My angelfu from innistrad was the last surviver

"Fans" don't know what the fuck they want. Every business that follows the "fans" advice ends up bankrupt.

I just wish they were honest with us and not feed us some PR bullshit on how the real villain of U/W flash decks was REFLECTOR MAGE and not the 4 drop walker who wins games by itself.
While then proceeding to release a 4/4 flying/vigilance for 2 that can be crewed using said walker for F R E E.

But you see the issue here is that they did those standard bannings to try and "add diversity to the format", and then the next set drops and we have a deck that takes up 40 percent of the meta and one that follows up with 25. That's fucking absurd. No format in my recent memory has been this bad. Not CoCo, not 4C goodstuff, not Rhino, not Devotion.

I thought Reflector Mage was annoying because of Bant CoCo

Bant CoCo was no longer a thing though.

I had fun in 2012
Less fun in 2013
Didn't play 2014
Even less fun in 2015
Magic Duels made me mad and so I stopped

I need a game with the officialism of these games but with the customization of Cockatrice. I absolutely fucking hate the limits on cards they enforce on decks in the official games. I'm a total faggot who likes to make huge, probably imbalanced decks for hour long games because I love the feeling of being able to tap 30 mana and doing 10 different things a turn. Also two headed giant was my jam for similar reasons (long games) but they decided to get rid of that for no reason.

I wish I wasn't a poorfag and a sperglord so I could just play in real life and not have to deal with that shit. My old ass decks are just collecting dust now.

"Hex: shards of fate" does vidya mtg better then mtg. The rules are similar, plus much more cool mechanics which would not be possible in physical card play. And even PvE campaign is way better then DoTPW. Best CTG currently on the online market.

Haven't played hex in a while but it never really stuck.

Eternal is pretty fun, though. Only wish they released more cards.

It's in the game, I guess not all of Mirage is missing.

Post lost

Saying that the UI is no worse than Mtgo is no worse than saying that the UI is no worse than a big bag of crap.

competes with their massively profitable physical product
how is that not obvious to you? do you have the mental capacity of a child?

you're not supposed to jump into any format at first, the only exception being casual/maybe EDH.

They create duel decks and premades every expansion for the casual to learn. after some magic under the belt, you then move to a more competitive format.

Magic Duels has two headed giant.

That's no excuse. Just look at Hex.

First time I see someone mention that game on Sup Forums.

...

*list

Are there any TCG's besides MTG where I can play anything like Loam Pox?

Or some kind of stasis stax thing?

I've tried a couple of these new ones, but I can't find any with an interesting spread of archetypes. At least for my taste.

>play a deck full of dark rituals, lotus, time walks, timetwisters, and contract from below
>consistently win by turn two

Shit's nuts

>not playing paper magic and pokemon online
It's comfy as fuck. Blows hearthstone and duel links the fuck out.

i'm not gay

shit i'd need to update my original list first, the short of it is that the deck is a modern Jeski control deck with red and white Akroma as the payload.

Not top tier but it'll still get work done.

[rattling noises]

>what is jinteki.net
>what is OCTGN

That's because Yugioh doesn't use keywords for anything other than basic stuff like graveyard, banish, etc.

>1/10th the complexity of MTG
That's about 100x more complex than it was when I played it on release, did the expansions really change it that drastically? Also WOTC has been dumbing magic down lately, they just don't want to make their game a babby mode retard game like HS since they know it would eliminate the only reason people still play it.

Because it's a trading card game, not a video game.

pokemon has both a decent game and a decent online

Pokemon didn't start as a trading card game.

they give you codes for cards as an insert in their boosters now
