When I was in Japan literally the only video games ads I ever saw were for the new FF game. Absolutely nothing else. The Japs have better shit to do than to play video games. I'm in Japan about a month every year for business mostly and game advert on trains are fairly common. Even for western games. Clash of Clan had a Yamanote Line full takeover (100% of advert inside cars were clash) + they had massive billboards in major stations like Shinjuku and Shibuya and outside of cars were covered in Clash stickers.
There's always a a full Yamanote Takeover as well whenever a major Pokemon release is out. Nintendo still has 60 seconds ads running on several JR Lines in Tokyo. Animal Crossing always gets promoted in train, as well as Mario and it has been like that for over 5 years.
