It was most peoples first persona game.

it isn't.

This comfy ass music

Has a generally more ambitious story overall and the world doesn't revolve around the main character with the party members having their own development arcs which makes them generally more interesting

I personally liked how it was designed like a pure dungeon crawler as well which the later ones moved away from, I think it worked well with the game design, compared to 'lmao just do the dungeon in a day' stuff that you get in 3 and 4.

I personally also preferred only being able to control the main character but I know I'm in a minority on that one

Not OP but 3 is generally considered the best, with some people saying 5 as well

4 ruined the series and 5 couldn't salvage it.

I like 5 more

lol no it isn't

because of edgelords who thought 4 was too happy and nostalgiafags who played 3 first

/thread

3 > 5 > 4

>What about the first 2?
No one cares about them, just like the first two Fallouts.

most people's first game
the last 10 hours make people forget the first 50-60 where nothing happens

this, playing P3:FES as my first Persona game and I dread going to Tartarus, its so fucking grindy and repetitive.

It's not the best, but i like it the most

5 > 3 > Q > 2IS > 4

I haven't played EP or 1 yet

but it isnt. 4 is considered the best. 3 is boring

Isn't 5 considered the best?

It was released 10 years ago, so it's old enough to be babby's first JRPG for Sup Forums.

because its the only modern one that has actual character development. kind of important when your game is a 50 hour marathon that is mostly character interaction

Maybe now, but 3 was the favorite before and still is the favorite with some.

should i play the ps2 or the psp version

4>5>3 fight me

Still all 3 is easy my top 15 games of all time.

There's only one character with good character development though, the rest of the cats have bad character development and they're also boring characters in every other regard.

PS2, but if you ever want to replay it then get the PSP version for that.

People liked the tone more in 3 than 4. I hated the inability to control my teammates so I'm not the biggest fan, even if the PSP version added it back.

PSP. You won't want to play it again, you simply want to get through it as quickly as possible.

why doesnt the pspversion lets you use the other characters

accurate on both accounts

psp unless you enjoy getting screwed over by shitty AI teammates

Why the hate for P4/P4G? It was a nice change of pace.
Being a part of a scooby gang that literally grows on you emotionally unlike any other game that isn't MGS honestly makes it the best in the series for me.
I didn't really get the same feel with P5 even though the themes are very different. It was more of a coworkers setting than actually bonding socially as you would with friends.
P5 is still awesome though.

Fes first, then you can play the Psp version for FemC if you want

That's the PS2 version.

>You won't want to play it again
seriously tho does people actually replay games that long(60+ hours)
seems like achore

Babby's first.

FemC is the best. I wish the other Persona games let you choose because getting the story from two viewpoints really made it worth replaying. and waifu or some shit.

>Why the hate for P4/P4G
I played it first before playing P3 and I can understand why people hate P4.

P3 had a good characters with their own arc, character development, and felt like they served a purpose, but NONE of the characters outside of Teddy felt that way in P4. P4 dropped the ball HARD when it came to having actual character development.

Well I'm sure they'd like to but just one character in P5 had something around 1200+ scenarios written, having another character would double that essentially.

>4 is considered the best

By who? You? lol

Everybody with good taste. 3 is garbage trash gutter

It's objectively the best game ever, actually.

You have full party control in the PSP version, but you lose fusion skills, an overworld, animated cutscenes and MC can only use swords where he can use any weapon in P3FES.

I actually prefer P4G to P3FES, but I think vanilla 4 feels very obviously rushed, the characters are hit or miss in 4, the mystery isn't really that engaging and it lacks the strong themes that 3 and 5 have. P4 really hammers down on the friendship side of it all which is fine, but it all feels a little shallow. It's a fun game, but I don't think it's the best. I also disagree on the cast feeling like they were really bonding in 4, to me it all felt like none of them except Yukiko and Chie would spend a minute with each other outisde of IT stuff and they were friends with Yu more than they were friends with each other. I know some people say the same about the P5 cast, but I didn't get that feeling there.

Oh, thanks for telling me!

Fuck no it isnt lol.

It's not like New Game+ will take as long thanks to the compendium transferring over.

>he puts PQ over P2
P2's protag is literally /ourguy/

>I personally also preferred only being able to control the main character but I know I'm in a minority on that one
Yeah I liked that too but it was bit weird not being able to control them cuz I played P4 first. The system of setting their mode like conserve SP or Full Attack worked well imho.

Relevant to this thread.

>random generated dungeon
>cant control party members
>most of slinks suck
>random inheritance

Yeah no.

So you don't seem like a normie for choosing 5, a weaboo for 4, and a pretentious faggot for choosing 1 and 2.

you cant even fucking control your own party members. there are jrpgs on the fucking master system that allows you to do that.

I'm not a pretentious faggot for preferring 2, am I?

Outside of obvious innovations in game mechanics in the later titles and re-releases, I like 3 (meaning P3P), P4G and P5 almost equally. They all have strengths and weaknesses, but each one puts a highly enjoyable spin on the same formula.

In fact, after finishing P5 I looked at the artbook and saw all those unused designs and ideas and I'm already jonesing hard for P6.

p3 is the contrarian option

P3P

>(meaning P3P)
Fag

is shit.

Yeah P3 is shit, but that's not the point

>not even the first version
>paid "patch"
>makes game vastly inferior in other ways
Hell, they even did cut out animated cut-scenes.

...

that wasnt funny.

best girl
best game

5>3>2:IS>2:EP>1>4
this is objectively true

But muh FeMc

Because the theme of death is more interesting to a lot of people than the broad concept of "facing the truth". It keeps a dark tone for a majority of the game and has characters that actually have personalities and develop as the game goes along. It actually feels like a well developed story. Of course, the gameplay is monotonous, the level design is copy pasted to absurd amounts and it's not especially well balanced in terms of activities (I finished all the social links at nighttime with two to three months left to go) but overall I think it's more interesting than 4 and maybe 5

>P5 fans see P3 as old school SMT when P5 is more like that than P3 is
Did you think about this image at all?

You are welcome. Newfriends will deny this tho.

P3P was such a dissapoiting updated release. Every time I tryed to play it I stopped because the VN cutscenes pissed me off that much.

Didn't help that after I tried FES after and I noticed how much more shit was cut from the "Definitive" PSP title. You would have to be a humoungus fucking faggot to think the Non Canon FemMC route is any reason to pick it up.

>>makes game vastly inferior in other ways

Just because you can't walk on a 3D map in towns anymore, making you realize what VN trash the game actually was?

It's not. The only place you'll hear people saying that is here on Sup Forums, and that's just the contrarians who physically can't admit that a popular game is good.

is P3 the most divisive persona game on Sup Forums?

No, it's 5 right now. And that's only because of the shitposters futilely trying to convince everyone that it's actually shit.

Because people haven't played both sides of 2.

I personally preferred IS over EP, the characters are somewhat better and Tatsuya works better as an MC than Maya.
Also there's a significant lack of Eikichi in EP, which automatically makes it the inferior game.

>I personally also preferred only being able to control the main character but I know I'm in a minority on that one

I'll raise you one unpopular opinion more user.
I liked the fact that Tartarus was seen as the massive slog a giant tower would be.
The characters reacted how you'd expect people to, given a massive year long task like that.
Some days Junpei was excited to clear some floors, sometimes he just wanted to goof off and play some vidya.
Kind of mimics how I felt about it and would use Slinking as a way if breaking up the grind.

I'll accept that it's less "fun" though.

Ulala was basically him and Lisa mashed together though.

and yet somehow I still like both of them more than Chie 1.0.

Tbh I think the best in the series is mostly subjective. My favorite is P4G personally and Idk if that is a common opinion.

This People were 12 when they played it.

I was 22, actually.

Was it your first jrpg ever? Because boy does Tartarsauce sucks ass.

That's usually the case where most of the games are really good.
Just like with Zelda, people like the one the most they played first OR the ones that has the most focus on stuff they usually enjoy

Persona 3
>realistic/human characters
>coherent story

Persona 4
>one of the most comfiest/memorable town in videogames
>happy atmosphere

Persona 5
>best gameplay
>wonderful presentation

From there on out it's your pick

It was my first persona but I was 19 when I played it

I couldn't even stomach to finish 4 and barely managed to chug through 5.

3 kept me entertained the whole way through.

P3 felt like playing Thousand arms/Vampire bride to me. I has lots of good ideas implemented in a retarded way + bad dungeon.
I don't understand how someone who isn't new to jrpgs or vns would find it above average.

The only thing that could ruin a Persona mainline game is a canon female MC

False.

I don't even need to check it out to know it's shit. Can't self insert with a female MC.

>mfw nobody ever mentions P2

I could really relate to the main character as a pretentious emo piece of shit who does nothing, is better off dead, and no-one notices remembers or cares when he's dead

Maya's the protag in name only though. Both IS and EP are Tatsuya's games

P3 was my first persona game, but I simply couldn't bring myself to beat it. I liked some of the aesthetics as well as the music, but I just couldn't get over how half-baked some of the mechanics were. I gave the series another change with P4, and the mechanics were tightened up significantly to the point it actually felt good. I actually enjoyed that one. Then P5 is my current GOTY.
So:
5 > 4 > 3

You really missed out on the ending.

I know, I need to go back and complete it some day. I could tell it was building to something interesting, but I just couldn't get over how tedious it was. I didn't have the problem with later Persona games. Hell, P2 didn't even feel that frustrating when I went and fooled around with it.

Well I'm in that boat with you since I started The Answer after finishing P3 and never completed it. Now I feel like I have to go back and replay P3 entirely before I can move on to it once more.

...

reminder that junpei (and yukari to a lesser extent) is the only character that actually undergoes multiple changes and character development moments over the course of the story.
everybody else is static and unchanging from the moment you meet them until their big character development moment months later. nothing happens between point A and point B. aigis is the perfect example of this, she should be gradually becoming more human, but she's exactly the same from July to December, then she has a big change on December 31st and then all the rest of her development is in her social link just like P4
when people say they like P3's character development, what they're really saying is they like junpei's character development

>EP is Tatsuya's game
>He doesn't even talk to you for half the game
>he joins your party as the story is wrapping up
nigga what. He's the narrative focus but clearly maya is the protagonist

Aigis and Liz are the worst characters in the series.

...

>Lizfag is a memester
Color me surprised.

Will P6 let me be gay ?
