''Nintendo have published the fact sheet for Metroid Prime 4, revealing new details about the game's storyline and the direction the Switch title is taking.
So far only the logo for the game was revealed in a brief teaser shown during the Nintendo Direct broadcast during E3 2017.
However, now more details have emerged about where Samus Aran’s next adventure will take the iconic character.
The fact sheet for Metroid Prime 4 features a quote from long-time series producer Kensuke Tanabe, who will be working on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch game.
He said: “Metroid Prime 4 returns to the First Person Adventure roots of the original Metroid Prime game and introduces a new storyline that ties together the events of the Metroid Prime universe and takes the storyline in new directions.”
The fact sheet for the game also said the upcoming Switch title will see a return to the first-person perspective of the Nintendo Gamecube and Wii Prime titles.
It also reveals the development team are “hard at work bringing the action, isolation and exploration of the Metroid Prime universe to life on Nintendo Switch.”
The Nintendo document also reveals the Metroid Prime 4 release date is still TBD (to be decided).''
Henry Kelly
Nintendo previously said the new Metroid game would be released “beyond 2017”.
They only showcased the logo for the game during E3, which suggested that it was early in development.
However, in a recent interview Nintendo bigwig Charlie Scibetta let slip that Metroid Prime 4 could be released as early as 2018.
He said: “We’ve announced a nice lineup through this year, and next year we have some big games coming with Metroid Prime 4. 2018 will be around Metroid, Kirby, Yoshi, new Pokemon game has been announced.
“We feel good about the lineup for this year and beyond.”
While those comments may have boosted fans’ hopes that Metroid Prime 4 could arrive sooner than initially thought, Nintendo quickly clarified the comment.

A representative for Nintendo soon afterwards said Scibatta had meant “2018 and beyond” instead of simply “2018.”
Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime previously spoke about why Metroid Prime 4 was revealed so early on in development.
He said: "We wanted to make it clear that Metroid is an important franchise for us.
"As we think about how to satisfy the needs to the Metroid fans, we needed to make sure they understood there was a great console experience coming, in addition to Metroid: Samus Returns coming on Nintendo 3DS.
“That's what we wanted to make sure it was clear that it wasn't one or the other, that we were going to support both of our platforms with a great new Metroid experience."
Nintendo also revealed during E3 that 3DS owners will get a remake of the second Metroid game, Metroid: Samus Returns.
It will be released in September, with a special edition launched that has a steelbook shaped like a Game Boy cartridge.
But in one blow to long-time fans of the Metroid Prime series, developers Retro Studios - who worked on the original trilogy - will not be involved with Metroid Prime 4.
Eli Anderson
>back to roots >working hard to bring back feel of isolation
gayme of the year 2019?
Kevin Gutierrez
Cautiously optimistic. Zelda was great and odyssey looks to be great so.. hopefully metroid gets the same amount of love.
Nicholas Hughes
please don't be another 343 situation
Joseph Cruz
Retro fucked it hard on 2 and 3 so maybe it's good they made a new team instead of giving it back to them. Fucking glad they're going for isolation this time, I don't want any spoken dialogue. Prime 3 fucking sucked because of it.
Benjamin Rogers
Do you think they'll keep the classic controls or will it have modern dual analog?
Colton Perez
>hard at work bringing the action, isolation and exploration of the Metroid Prime universe They went from Skyward Sword to making the best Zelda ever, Super Mario Odyssey, and not only bringing back Metroid but making it great again. Best fucking timeline
Daniel Clark
Don't remind me of what happened to Halo
Gavin Sanchez
this
Aaron Morales
Wave Trooper here. Plasma Troopers are faggots.
Landon Robinson
>action, isolation and exploration
Excellent
Ryan Hernandez
Science team is best team!
Justin Parker
Dual analog, hopefully.
Christopher Turner
I just got a Switch a couple of hours ago and started Zelda. MP4 sealed the deal, can't wait for this bitch to be released.
Lincoln Evans
Now that a new main series metroid prime game is getting released, is this worth getting? The only bad things i've heard about it are that its a little hollow in terms of gameplay, but most of its detractions come from people thinking it was released when most people wanted a main series game instead
overall i've heard its worth getting if you have the cash, but it isnt worth saving up for
Brayden Anderson
Bet you anything it'll have spoken dialogue this time.
Jayden Cooper
Will the mole be making a comeback as well?
Elijah Hernandez
it's way better than Other M and that piece of shit Hunters that's for sure.
Owen Martin
this
i don't why but i've seen a ton of people praising Prime 2 on Sup Forums recently, that game was garbage compared to the first one (I just played all 3 of them for the first time over the last year)
Parker Nelson
Prime 3 had spoken dialogue.
Josiah Cruz
Fuck no.
It's not worth it at all. Only buy it if you're big into those co-operative 4 player 3DS games like Triforce Heroes or Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon's multiplayer. And if you want a fun multiplayer experience ESPECIALLY in first person, you can go elsewhere and do better.
So unless you have 1-3 Metroid Fan friends with 3DSes who you think would reliable player partners? Forget about it. All you need to know is Sylux kidnaps a baby Metroid at the end of the game. That's it. Just a plot teaser for MP4. It has Sylux and he's using Metroids somehow.
Hunters was literally one of the best multiplayer FPS games of it's time. if you forgive the bugs/hackers. The multiplayer was fucking immaculate and the singelplayer was filler content that got slapped on as an afterthought.
Go look at a wiki page for the game. Look at all those game modes and maps for multiplayer. Not to mention it's EXTREMELY "ahead of it's time" given that it's one of the first "Hero Shooters" and came out a full decade before stuff like Overwatch started to take off.
Angel Cook
>Pure isolation >Cutscenes kept to a minimum or exclusive to boss battles >Not linear
And most importantly >No repetitive "collect these 3 things by doing this same one thing in 3 different places to complete the game" formula from prime 2.
Easy. Metroid is a formula where you have to put effort into fucking up, yet they fucked up a lot.
Prime 1 is perfect. Prime 2 would be good if it wasn't so formulaic. Prime 3 is shit. Other M is Prime 3's retarded cousin. I'm glad a new dev team at nintendo is doing this.
Owen Harris
Your opinion is invalid. I just spent 8 hours playing Echoes yesterday and it was fucking great.
List your issues so that I can dismantle your argument and make you look like a fool or a casual.
Jaxson Ortiz
It'll have Splatoon / Zelda Bow controls with two sticks and gyro.
Carson Bailey
This.
It's a patrician aiming system. I bet they'll hybridize that basic aiming scheme with Metroid Prime 3's "free lock-on" system. That shit was great.
Landon Peterson
>tl;dr We still don't know who the fuck is making it
WOW IT'S FUCKING NOTHING!
>Samus's Return coming in a steelbook edition
3DS games never get this treatment. Okay I'm down.
Adam Wood
Yeah but I only said that Prime 4 will surely have spoken dialogue, not implying that Metroid never had it.
Eli Jenkins
>Metroid Prime 97% on metacritic >Metroid Prime 2 Echoes 92% on metacritic SHIT GAEM
Brody Morris
We do know. It's developed internally by Nintendo under Tanabe
Grayson Gray
>under Tanabe
we're fucked aren't we?
Dominic Harris
>Metroid Prime Hunters > EXTREMELY "ahead of it's time" given that it's one of the first "Hero Shooters" and came out a full decade before stuff like Overwatch started to take off I honestly never gave it much thought but you are right about that
Connor Sullivan
>Tropical Freeze was one of his most recent credits and might be a literal "best in genre" level game. >Led companies like Next Level Games and Retro Studios from shovelware factories to creators of classics like the Mario Strikers series and Metroid Prime.
Alexander Moore
>Tanabe >Directed Metroid Prime 3 and Federation Force
Do you still have hopes it will be a groundbreaking game?
It will be a decent one, maybe an okay one, and that's it
Hunter Harris
Why was Mario Strikers so fucking good bros?
Isaac Martin
"this time" used in that context usually implies that there were no other times.
Joshua Gomez
Federation Force is still fresh in everyone's head space. Could you blame anyone for drawing scrutiny? We're already seeing that Samus's Return and MercurySteam.
Charles Jackson
>Color splash >Federation Force
Jonathan Phillips
Tanabe also directed the good ones. Sakamoto also directed the 11/10 metroids as well as Other M
Camden Cruz
Tanabe really doesn't do anything. Nobody actually listens to any of his awful ideas. His job is solely to make sure that all the gaijin development teams are actually doing their work.
Caleb Garcia
>Hunters literally one of the best multiplayer games of its time You mean the multiplayer part? The single player campaign was one of the worst things in the genre. I mean since ever.
Hudson Sullivan
>Waluigi_crotch_chop.gif
Luis Bell
Yeah but E3 should have re-contextualized that shit for a lot of these people.
Federation Force was just part one of a serious Metroid comeback plan. Nobody believed him, but it was true.
You should read my post more carefully.
Jeremiah Reed
>action, isolation and exploration Okay they are using the right words at least. It seems they do know what people like about metroid.
Which makes federation force all the more confusing.
Landon Green
Color Splash was directed by a girl I dont remember the name of. Not to mention Paper Mario is no longer the same genre as before according to nintendo
James Rivera
Name a good one directed by him.
And no, he wasn't the director of 1-2. He was just there but didn't take the director chair.
Tyler Diaz
>>Hunters literally one of the best multiplayer games of its time >best multiplayer games >You mean the multiplayer part? Gee user, I don't know. What could that sentence mean?
Gabriel Hughes
>it was the best multiplayer >oh, but it wasn't the best, single player sucked you just contradicted yourself, what else should I say?
Jace Brooks
you're illiterate and stupid.
I'm not bothering with you
Benjamin White
Literally why do people hate Tanabe? He didn't do anything wrong, unlike Sakashitto, who probably learned his lesson by now too.
Thomas White
>isolation and exploration
key, key words.
Blake Brooks
The actual credited director of the entire Prime series is a hack currently in his own studio making sub-par games and ports
Gabriel Wright
...
Connor Barnes
I feel like such a good cuck, buying a game I'm hardly even excited for. Prime 1 was OK while 2 and 3 weren't even good. My standards aren't that low.
What I really want is another game on Zelda's caliber, but whoops, the Switch doesn't have jack shit yet.
Wyatt Rodriguez
Because he isn't being whipped by miyamoto every day. The games might not be as good but he is probably not that stressed and he won't be having a heart attack from overworking.
Oliver Evans
>Prime 1 was OK while 2 and 3 weren't even good. My standards aren't that low. No kidding. Whats a game you think is great?
Nathan Turner
The last time Tanabe did any actual fucking work on a video game was this, and that just as an "advisor". He's a producer, and has very little say in the actual development process. I doubt he even gets decide to which games actually get made.
Why are people trying to turn him into some kind of scapegoat?
Jayden Richardson
>actually thinking shit like this
Luis Nelson
He produced those just like he produced the metroid prime series or mario strikers or tropical freeze.
Oliver Edwards
I loved Kid Icarus, and I heard Sakurai is working on a new IP for the Switch. Now that I'm excited for.
La Mulana 2 looks way fucking better than any Metroid, too. And I was completely obsessed with Super Metroid for most of my childhood.
Tyler Diaz
It was shit when we were starved for games and it's still shit a fangame and 2 announcements later.
>Federation Farts
>Better than anything
>Especially Hunters
You're so stupid, it's medically fascinating.
Anthony Russell
>So far only the logo for the game was revealed in a brief teaser shown during the Nintendo Direct broadcast during E3 2017. I guarantee you it's not even the final fucking logo. They through together a """""""trailer"""""""" because they had just done the "yes we are working on it" gimmick for Pokemon and couldn't do it twice without being called on the bullshit
Andrew Cooper
Now that the purists finally got what they wanted maybe they can admit that federation force is just mediocre. The gameplay and everything is fine...having more people is required for the experience to be complete though. Its a nice game to go throughI started prime trilogy a couple of days ago for the first time,i just beat the giant plant monster and i got to say i love this game. Im excited to play more
Austin Hernandez
Producers actually have more power than directors as they are the ones in charge of money and the actual decisions, especially at nintendo where directors have no actual say in the direction the game takes and have to get a go for every decision.
If he thought Federation was a steaming pile of shit and said no it would have been stopped that very second.
Daniel Rogers
But there's always AI drones and that one Lone Wolf Mod to help out
i'm also interested in the Trilogy but i'm probably gonna wait on getting it until it gets ported/rereleased on the switch that's where i'm investing everything and i want to keep all my games together
Jace King
You're forgetting that Sup Forums has no actual idea of how game development works.
Wyatt Phillips
Having mouse support on dolphin is godsend. I understand wanting to wait but it really is a nice experience playing it on pc. Thinking that i didnt even finish the first one and i have 2 more is really nice like "oh theres more? Yes please!"
Jose Nelson
Laughable comment. The notion that any single person in any position dictates the quality of a game is a joke.
Jayden Collins
>tfw i only have a macbook to work with im starting my first formal job tomorrow so hopefully i can buy/build a half-decent pc within the next 6 months
James Wilson
That is the very reason command structures exist in the first place, so one has the absolute decision and it has proven to work if the one in charge does not fuck up and knows what people want. E.g. BotW compared to SS.
Juan Price
I do not recall BotW being forced to work with a fucking remote as a controller, which most assuredly was not within the director's power to change.
Samuel Turner
>directed
He produced them you retard
Henry Clark
Neither were Color Splash, Sticker Start and Federation Force yet they still sucked massive dicks.
Wyatt Fisher
See
Elijah Price
No they didn't. They were sub-par, as a result of many different factors. And if Sticker Star replaced Toads with various critters from Mario it would still be sub-par.
Bentley Taylor
At least they're finally getting their shit together.
Jordan Adams
Honestly Prime's pacing and design is very consistently good. Flaaghra is a high point but you're only starting out. It's not THE high point. You're in for a treat.
Anthony Bell
>metroid prime >not made by retro
Nintendo fucks up yet again!
At least I don't have to buy a switch any time soon
Austin Brown
I honestly like it better than the first one. A bit creepier and more difficult and that Dark Samus tension is exceptional. Quadraxis, Emperor Ing, and final Dark Samus are all better boss fights than either phases of Metroid Prime.
Not that Metroid Prime was a bad boss, it's just that it didn't have the complexity or care that 2's bosses did.
Camden Mitchell
>so 2019 So Sakamoto will release Metroid Dread for the 3DS the same year as Metroid Prime 4 for the Switch. While Halo 6 returns Halo back to its roots in 2018. Looks like 2018 and 2019 are the 2001 and 2002 of our generation.
Brayden Reed
Whether or not its made by Retro really doesn't make a difference since the original Prime team no longer even works there.
Aaron Bennett
Finally someone else who appreciates MPH for the fucking awesome multiplayer gane that it was, all I ever see are purist faggots shitting on the single player (which was admittedly awful) but never talking about the awesome multiplayer aspect. Used to play Noxus abd Spire, Weavel and Trace are faggots
Ian Clark
Ham-Hams Unite was fucking great desu senpai
Parker Morris
It's pretty fun but overly hated because "not my metriod" and at the time the future of the series was a total toss up. Now that we have a future with immediate mainline games, this can stand as the fun spin off it always was.
Online pretty healthy too. Still get 2-3 people relatively easily if you have no friends.
Brandon Miller
Lock-on is part of what makes Prime unique
Nolan Kelly
It got released at the wrong time, where all the fan base was hungry to a return to form. It wouldn't surprise me if Metroid Prime 4 was announced early was because of all that backlash. To get rid of that negative sigma that the series was dead.
Jaxson Green
>“Metroid Prime 4 returns to the First Person Adventure roots of the original Metroid Prime >action, isolation and exploration
Ryder Myers
AT LEAST WE DON'T HAVE BIG PINK CLAWS
Asher Perry
The only 'spoken' dialogue I want is Samus Aran's internal monologues as she waits for incredibly long elevators to finish making their ascent/descent.
Michael Bailey
>My feet hurt >The morphball's too cramped >I want to go to my ship and take a nap >At least there's no fucking Phazon anymore
Joseph Bell
is it not possible to wait until there's more than a title screen before we start speculating?
Hudson King
TF2 released the year after, calm down man.
Elijah Rogers
>the Metroid Prime universe
Angel Fisher
Hunters was in the cooker as long or longer than TF2. The demo was a pack-in for the original release of the DS.
Nathan Butler
When did Sup Forums go from thinking Corruption was a good game, although arguably the weakest of the trilogy, to thinking it's the worst game in the main series next to Other M and irredeemably shit?
I'm seeing way more active hate for the game now than I did a year or two ago.
Xavier Morales
I want them to keep her Smash 4 face
Jack Reed
>tfw this isn't an actual visual novel
Logan Adams
How disappointed/angry are you if Metroid Prime 4's gonna end up like Starfox Zero (IE forced gimmicks like motion controls)?
