>BDO

I can tell this is some kind of Korean MMO trash from just that image.

Because the farming doesn't lead to any enjoyable or fun experience.

What's wrong with it?

It's just another pay-to-win WoW clone.

The only good MMOs are those that have genuinely fun gameplay which breaks the WoW mold.

Examples:

Planetside 1
Space Cowboys Online/Ace Online
EVE Online
Pre-schism HellMOO

>EVE Online
never forget
reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/3x9c4g/paid_some_dude_in_jita_to_write_for_a_full_hour/

I just like making money and packing sunflowers into crates to sell.

Each sunflower harvest creates 200 sunflowers for me, and each crate holds 10 of them.

Crates are worth 15,000 silver each, each harvest generates about 300,000 silver.

I typically sell in bulk once I've built 10,000 crates.

Wait, what?

How it it a WoW clone with:

>Dynasty Warrior style mob farming
>No dungeons
>No raids
>No true "Endgame" (Other than getting crazy high AP for guild wars and other PvP events)
>A focus on doing whatever the fuck you want

Seriously. For the past two days all I've done is farm sunflowers and fish in the river.

>>No dungeons
>No raids
>No true "Endgame" (Other than getting crazy high AP for guild wars and other PvP events)

Normally MMOs are advertised by their features, not their lack of features. You're not doing a good job.

Now I'm just wondering how bored you have to be to play "mondane tasks: the game" and actually unironically enjoy it.

You really aren't productive in your own life if this is what keeps you playing this trash.

It has a focus on life skilling unless you just want to play to grind mobs/PvP.

Also, it's the only MMO with true open world PvP right now. Anyone, at anytime, can kick your ass.

Lifeskilling is stuff like crafting, trading cargo, hunting, farming, fishing, and gathering. There's also naval battles and whale hunting.

There's also world bosses if you just want to fight one giant mob for one big payout rather than grind hundreds of smaller mobs.

I guess it boils down to my enjoyment of grinding games. I just like shutting my brain off after work and being some-what productive in a video game.

It could also be the dopamine factor of lots of tiny rewards on the path to one giant reward.

>Also, it's the only MMO with true open world PvP

No it isn't, hundreds of MUDs have this

>MUDs

>Also, it's the only MMO with true open world PvP right now. Anyone, at anytime, can kick your ass.
Even in towns?
Can they loot your shit and permanently kill off your character?

>Even in towns?
Yes and no.

The game uses a Karma system.

You start out with +300,000 Karma. You get more by grinding mobs. Cap is +500,000.

Hitting another player (Unless you've been hit by them first) costs you 10,000 Karma. Killing them (If you're the one that started the fight) costs 120,000.

Once you hit negative Karma (So, basiclly killing two or more players) you are then given a red name, can be hit/killed with no consequences for the attacker, and you can no longer turn off PvP. (So someone just randomly grinding mobs without PvP attacking enables is still going to hit you if you walk in front of them.

There are other problems with negative Karma, though:

>If you enter a town, guards WILL kick your ass if you're not stealthy.
>You're a big flashing red target for players, and a town is a safe zone for them, not for you. (So they can hit you, you can't hit back.
>Your gear can lose it's enhancement grade if you die. (At higher levels this is days worth of work. Months if you drop from something like +23)

If you have positive Karma, a town is a safe zone and no one can attack you.

>Can they loot your shit
Only trade cargo like crates and fishing loot. (So you can literally be a pirate just ransacking player-driven carriages for their cargo)

>permanently kill off your character?
No, but they can cause you to lose months worth of work in just one death.

>No, but they can cause you to lose months worth of work in just one death.

Explain

That sounds boring as shit.

Why not just go fishing in real life instead of sitting in your room staring at your computer screen watching some avatar catch fish?

>MUD

not games

>Farm/Gather/Worker Manage your way to a large amount of crates to sell off.
>Takes months, but worth almost 1,000,000,000 Silver each month and takes almost no effort. (Other than time when gathering/farming)
>Need to ship crates a few towns over in order to get the distance trading bonus. (+50% profit)
>Load everything up in a cart
>Start the trip
>Midway through some asshole with a sword smashes your cart
>He makes off with however many crates he can carry
>Rest just get destroyed
>Begin month's worth of work again or rage quit the game.

sounds like a worse haven and hearth desu

>Why not just go fishing in real life instead of sitting in your room staring at your computer screen watching some avatar catch fish?

Why do anything in a video game that you can do in real life?

>Seems like a fun adventure, not gear treadmill like other modern post wow mmos

It's ok, I like the idea of farming and making money, but what are you even supposed to do endgame? You slowly grind your gear levels up through enhancing so you can pvp, is that it?

>but what are you even supposed to do endgame?
Whatever you want to do that makes money.

>You slowly grind your gear levels up through enhancing so you can pvp, is that it?

Pretty much. That's the only real point to the gear grind part of the game. (Unless you just want to be stupid OP for mob grinding.)

You just need to find whatever's fun for you. I play a Berserker, so PvP is pretty entertaining for me, which causes me to want to go through the gear grind. (Grappling warriors that block every attack and then suplexing them off of cliffs never gets old.) But you don't need to grind at all if you don't want to PvP.

I should mention that most of the guild systems focus on Guild VS Guild PvP (True end-game that requires like +450 Gear Score) as the main goal, but I am aware of a lot of guilds that just focus on things like fishing and trading.

Life skilling guilds give you buffs to fishing/trading, by the way. (Pic related. Fishing guild's buff.)

You forgot Pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies

>Forgetting the two best MMOs of all time, SWG and FFXI

Did they ever fix the really shitty pop in? I tried it on launch but just couldn't deal.
And is player armor still super limited unless you buy outfits from the cash shop?

I play for the slutty outfits.

>buying a game that installs literal malware on your PC

got a bit of shit on her nose

i assume its the same reason people play sim games, they just want a stress free environment where they can see progress. Hence the truck sims and farming sims.

>life skill
There's no point to life skilling though. Unlike a true sandbox game you can't meaningfully affect the economy or create items of incredible value for others. Everything done in the game is to make money to get gear and play the slots to enhance them.

So why should I waste my time life skilling when I can make ten times the money in half the time grinding pirates or sausans or whatever? If you insist on life skilling you're basically saying BDO is a glorified single player game.

>Did they ever fix the really shitty pop in?
No. It's a real problem that sucks everytime it starts to get bad. We still have no idea why it happens, but they did do something to make it not as bad. Still visible, though.

>And is player armor still super limited unless you buy outfits from the cash shop?

You can buy outfits from the auction house now. They each cost a little under 30,000,000 Silver and they're the same as the cash shop outfits. (Because that's exactly what they are.)

What's the secret for grabbing an outfit off the AH? Every time I see one it's gone in seconds.

>Unlike a true sandbox game you can't meaningfully affect the economy or create items of incredible value for others.

>Farm/gather/fish for months to work up billions
>Buy an Ogre Ring off of the market and work to get it up to Tri or even Tet/Pen
>Post to the auction house
>Watch as chat realizes what just happened
>Sells for 5+ Billion.

Ultima Online and Tibia have open pvp since 1997. Lineage 2 also had it.

Could you stop treating questions like salads and actually give a real fucking answer?

It's a shill thread, user. We've been having a lot of BDO threads these past few days for some reason.

This.

I stopped playing when Valencia got delayed for the 3rd or 4th time. Did they ever fix PVP? It was fun when you could just rock up and fuck up people and take their grinding spot and you'd have extended battles for spots that were very exciting but then they changed the balance on the pvp system and the downsides when you died stopped being significant and the game stopped being fun for me.

Because it came to steam not that long ago and it's on sale, people are curious about it.

/vg/ must be desperate to keep their general alive.

It's one of the most active generals right now.

you level so fucking fast, I feel like I dont get to learn proper rotations and combos. I hit 50 the same day I got the game, wtf?

it markets itself as a sand box but its really just an autism grinder like runescape, where the entire point of the game is to play the economy

and if you are into that shit, why not just play a good game like EVE?

>linking to reddit

kill yourself you faggot

They don't need us though considering all they do is circlejerk and shitty waifupost.

They're somehow even worse than FFXIV although that may just be because XIV has more content.

>want to play berserker
>impossible to make one that isnt ugly

The ironic thing is there's very little you can play the economy unless you get lucky with high enhancing.

Otherwise you will always be more efficient grinding mobs

Could not get into it but by fuck that character creator was off the fucking chain.

>Your country is restricted from accessing our service.

100% br free. Enjoy

OP seemed to pull it off by hiding that stupid disproportionate chin with his beard. Also, pic related.

I just bought the game but I am stuck in the "family name" part
I am always bad at making up names and I don't want to put any retarded shit there.
Will probably spend next 5 hours in character creation as well.

Any suggestions for the family name? The theme I am going for is something "red", the color, things that are of that color etc.

help

lots of people didn't play FFXI, even though its almost as good a sandbox as SWG was, even to this day it enjoys amazing horizontal progression with a strong, if small, community. It's actually sad that a 15 year old game made for the PS2 out performs shit like wow in content and in depth/enjoyment

I am fool, just popped a Ber from basket running to hell meph

When you finally come up with an idea it will be taken anyway, so do whatever.

>Korean mmos

game fucking sucks

Best outfit in the game

>true open world PvP
>just doubled the Karma loss per frag
Yeah, sure thing dude.

>He's afraid of negative Karma

Then don't participate, dumb shit.

Can you make a loli character in this game?

No, they made it worse. Not only are the downsides no longer there, but you also lose double the karma per kill, and Awakenings lowered TTK by a fuckton.

Does Striker ever get shoes? Or am I condemned to footwraps for life?

No

...

Well damn, did I just waste 10 dollars to this shit for no reason?

I bought it off the auction house. Had it set to notice, saw it pop up, switched to my alt stationed in Hidel and sniped it.

How is it more interesting to farm the last boss or last dungeon for hours on end because thats the only thing that is worth doing anymore.

Finding a job and growing your business sounds nice as fuck.

>markets itself as a sand box
>its a literal box of sand

I'll come back to BDO when they add in the airships for the next expansion but I enjoy playing the market too much and you just can't do that in BDO

>Download BDO
>Study the auction house
>Corn sells almost instantly
>But there is never any supply of it
>Yet there is usually tons of other crops
>Meaning there is a high demand for corn and a low supply
>Spend a ton of contribution points getting a bunch of workers and 10 fences
>Spend a day or two breeding corn seeds into blue quality corn seeds
>Sell my harvest on the market
>Jew Devs will only allow me to ask for a pittance
>Despite the supply/demand ratio

Great. 100+ contribution points out of it and all I see is 3 mil every 4 hours

Fuck this game

buy outfits goyim

How come none of you ever mention the big selling point that is the fact that there are no brs in the game

the servers don't allow brs at all
so no huehuehue shit

the game doesn't allow fun either sooo

neither to any mmos
people play them for the community
and if the community isn't being ruined by brs then it's surely a selling point

Because I'm farming real life stuff at the moment. Mostly gains and the sloots they attract.

Is Black Desert good at scratching that grindy itch?

I'm looking for something with farming, stat/item grinding, etc. Basically a number increasing simulator.

Not the guy you are replying but BDO's community is 99% "Traps aren't gay" "Alienware is the best PC" and "WoW was the first MMO" posting.

Also the devs hate player interaction so there is not a lot of community activity you can get into

here's the pastebin of the chat
pastebin.com/gSrvtquy

>friends keep wanting me to get into their flavor-of-the-month grindfest MMOs
By reading this thread it seems like BDO is more boring than FF14. Good thing I only got the 7-day trial. Fucking game is 50 gigs.

>no BRs
There's fucking guilds of BRs.

>2 days to install

W-what

>2 hour download
>20 minute install
What indeed

>spend hour in character creation
>immediately see an NPC that looks just like you
God fucking dammit

That's exactly what it is.

>Grind mobs to get money/loot to sell for money
>Gather for hours so you can increase your gathering level so you gather rarer materials so you can make more money
>Fish for hours so you can increase your fishing level so you can catch rarer fish so you can sell them for more money
>Farm in your garden for hours so you can harvest/breed rarer crops so you can sell them for more money
>Trade cargo from town to town for hours so you have access to rarer cargo so you can make more money.
>Spend all of this money on trying to get your AP higher and higher until you're so OP that every guild wants you for their wars and no one will fight you one-on-one.

Also, no level cap. So, basiclly your numbers can keep increasing forever. The only catch is that at (I think) level 65 it will take a literal year's worth of in-game time doing nothing but grinding mobs to get even 1% EXP for level 66.

>not even full +15
>55
Disgusting.

Also, it's level 62, if not 61.

>jerky spasms

>level 55
>No xp in Health
??? eat your veggies
