Sonic 1

The day the first game was released.

Depends on how you define the "dark age"
It's either
>When we didn't get any good Sonic games on Saturn.
or
>When Sega dropped out of the console market, and started releasing Sonic games multiplat.

August 7, 2000

The comics started most of the autism. Prior to that Sonic was just a fad but the adventure games helped spread it like wildfire

On Game Gear*

I agree, those were lousy mock ups of the Genesis games.

3D. While Sonic Adventure (and SA2 for that matter) aren't complete shit, it's still the moment where the series took a huge dive in quality and never really recovered.

>series died after Sonic & Knuckles!
Such retards are still ruining the franchise to this day. See: Classic Sonic in Forces.

...

The jump to 3D

Heroes.

Dark age commonly refers to 2003-2010. Some even say 2006-2009, but that's highly debatable.

In my opinion Sonic Heroes was the start of the dark age of Sonic, and Shadow the Hedgehog plunged the series in a near six year nose dive.

Adventure 2 introducing Shadow.

>In my opinion Sonic Heroes was the start of the dark age of Sonic
Agreed. Again, Sega going completely multiplat resulted in a drastic decrease in the quality of Sonic games, and it shows in Heroes.

Honestly Shadow wasn't even that bad in Adventure 2. Sure, he was kind of edgy, but he's not a complete edge lord, has real motives aside from "muh amnesia", and isn't shoved into the limelight too often.
He should have stayed dead, of course.

Shadow was fine Adventure 2. He probably would be better recieved if he stayed dead for awhile. Imagine his reveal in Forces if we hadn't seen him since Adventure 2.

It doesn't actually matter how he was in SA2. If he hadn't been introduced at all, all of the post-SA2 cancer involving him wouldn't have been able to happen, not to mention he was a big part of the degradation of the fanbase into awful DA OC Donut Steel autism.

That's pretty much how "beginning of the end" scenarios work.

Why has this character been a former shell of himself after Sonic Heroes? How come nobody else has been able to capture his personality right like Ryan Drummond?

yeah im sure it wasnt the fact that the majority of the fanbase are literal 10 year olds, that had NOTHING to do with it

It wasn't just Shadow's debut game.

I resent this thing so damn much.

Another factor contributing to the Sonic dark age was Jason Griffith being THE WORST Sonic voice.
youtube.com/watch?v=X3Dxza5NQEk

BIG

And? The same was true during the Genesis era. Clearly the age of the fanbase isn't the smoking gun here.

>What began the dark age of Sonic?

Either here or a few minutes before

>Jason is worse than Roger

Griffith was good in Unleashed and Black Knight.

Sonic Heroes

What's wrong with Rouge? All things considered, she's not the most offensive of Sonic's friends.

>Want to hate rouge because she's shitty fap-bait and partially responsible for downward spiral of Sonic
>But she makes my dick hard and i forget to dislike her when my dick is hard

Jason > Ryan >>>>>>> Roger >>>>>>> Irkel

Mfw any possibility of a good shadow gone in a few seconds
youtu.be/g3FQ7JL206g

>Cocks "assault rifle"

Dick-tingling aside, I don't think Rouge is that offensive a character. She was originally played to be Knuckles's foil and shown to be one of the more competent characters in SA2, working as a double agent for the govenment and showing that she's very competent and knowledgeable about most things, when she's not stealing gems for herself. She wasn't a one-note character with a limited skillset.

>people memorizing voice actors name
>furfags drooling over Rouge
>manchildren who just hate everything
Why is the Sonic fanbase so autistic?

>He says posting Anime

Sonic 06 is the game that truly killed the franchise. The Sonic we currently see now is nothing but a walking zombie.

Fuck everyone in this thread. Everything was fine until Sonic Heroes

t. fag

Sonic Heroes was fun. Don't shit on that Gamecube classic. The Metal Sonic boss is still fun to fight.

Marin Burke sounds awesome
memorable voice

No, fuck you faggot. Sonic Heroes is the best game in the entire franchise.

Stop killing the franchise with your shit taste

Heroes would be great if it weren't so buggy. There's so many instances where some random setpiece will kill you out of nowhere.

You have shit taste. I played it on PC and it was great.

Not really. This is only true for the alligator chase setpiece in Lost Jungle which is admittedly quite buggy.

It took a dip with the Adventure games and then went off the deep end with Heroes and then Shadow proved it was staying there
'06 was just Sonic Team rolling with the punches and showing off how bad of a game they could make

Sonic Heroes was the first SUPER garbage game. Sonic 3D Blast wasn't good either, but there's 2 versions with really rocking soundtracks.

The moment they Sonic needed some grand sweeping plot [though I will admit Battle's was decent] without going through the trouble of doing any consistent worldbuilding behind it.

Things started going wrong as early as 3D Blast, though to be fair that's not a Sonic Team venture.
SA1 introduced or emphasized many problems that still plague the franchise.
SA2 doubled down on nearly all of them, so either that or Heroes.

It's the art style. Seriously.

It's a simple artstyle that it doesn't serve as much of a barrier to creatively-bereft autist furries. If this person can render even basic symmetry, then they will find it a very approachable fandom unto which they can defecate easily their various sexual deviancies and vomit out retarded character chronicles. They can produce something simple, yet pleasing to the eye that doesn't look "off".

While it's logical to consider Disney as the forefather of modern furries, the more realistic nature of their art is a huge obstacle to autist furries. Thus, Sonic is a huge attraction because of its low entry requirements.

>Fully 3D, not plagued by any 2D sections whatsoever
>No retarded treasure hunting or fishing levels or any of that jazz, just high speed platforming action
>The team mechanic is a great and creative way to overcome the issue of limited buttons on the controller, characters talking to each other during the levels makes it feel more alive
>Isn't held back by a story that demands cutscenes to interrupt the gameplay or the level themes to make sense
>Fantastic level design with lots of memorable setpieces that still require user input (unlike the semi-automatic boost gameplay in modern games) like running down the upside-down tower in Hang Castle, being shot out of giant guns in Bullet Station, and dodging laser barrages in Final Fortress
>That 10/10 OST and those gorgeous visuals

If you don't think that Sonic Heroes is the best Sonic game then get the fuck out of my face.

After Sonic 3/Sonic&Knuckles.

This desu, Sonic was never good. Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong, then go and play the old ones. The first level is fine but you will be bored by the second.

Imagine the game we would've got if Sony didn't force them to butcher the engine for a PS2 release.
Go to bed Arin.

>Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong, then go and play the old ones. The first level is fine but you will be bored by the second.
Not everyone suffers from ADHD

>slippery physics
>plastic characters
>terrible level design
>forced 3 playable characters at all times instead of separate stories
>no chao garden
>best game
No you get the fuck out of MY face

>muh physics
This meme must die

The whole game feels like running on a fucking bananna peel

>Chao garden
I love Tamagotchis and shit, but I never understood the love for chao garden. People seem to mostly remember that from the Adventure series.

>without going through the trouble of doing any consistent worldbuilding behind it
This. Honestly their troubles started when they for some reason decided to commit to the real world setting in Adventure 1. It's sort of hard to do proper worldbuilding when your world is "Modern-day Earth, only there are several races of talking animals (or maybe just individuals?) and a fat guy who is single-handedly an industrial superpower and a global-scale threat, but nobody noticed for some reason"
And then after Heroes it seemed like they completely gave up on worldbuilding, and just had every game introduce some new story element that was completely incongruous in theme and content with the rest of the series.

>the game feels like shit to play doesn't count as a valid criticism
kys

I honestly never gave it so much thought but it's true.

I mean look at Mario. Even with thousands of spin offs and games, the world seems more cohesive and characters don't change so drastically between them.

Maybe you're just shit at video-games. Have you tried getting good?

You're just bad. When you learn how to play Heroes properly it's the smoothest Sonic game out there. This """criticism""" carries about as much weight as IGN shitting on Sonic because they couldn't run through a loop.

That's because Mario never does anything interesting, it's the same shit over and over

>You're just bad. When you learn how to play Heroes properly it's the smoothest Sonic game out there.
If you tried to argue that Heroes' physics were "not that bad" or "actually good once you get used to it" I would at least be able to understand.
But smoothest in the series? You can't possibly be serious.

They've introduced new worlds for Mario to be in, Isle Delfino, space with Rosalina, etc. etc.

Difference from Sonic is that new characters are with new settings and the series wasn't cancerous with all the characters it created. Arguably, Mario is falling into the same trap that Sonic fell into years ago (bland gameplay, too many characters) though, but again, Nintendo didn't blow its load in less than a decade.

Maybe I am exaggerating.

Pfffff, what are you talking about, Sonic has had some great storylines
>Eggman tries to take over an island
>Eggman tries to build a giant metal version of his face to take over the world
>He tries again
>He tries AGAIN
>Eggman awakens an ancient water god
>Eggman awakens an ancient fire god
>Eggman awakens an ancient earth god
>Eggman awakens the edgelord his grandpa made
>The edgelord was actually an alien
>Eggman and Eggman try to take over the world

Heroes will kill you in increasingly ridiculous ways until you give in and do the research.
There is one correct side of every pole you use blue tornado on. If you switch from speed to flight you will lose all your momentum because the power character falls behind then slams into the bottom of the stack at mach one trying to catch up. Rails have much higher gravity than the rest of the stage and when you jump off a rail gravity remains high often resulting in a death but you can circumvent this by switching to power formation before jumping off the rail then immediately performing a triangle glide to reset gravity. If you hold down the jump button during blue tornado you will pop out the top higher than usual when it ends. If you kick off the stage in speed formation you can cancel the kick into a jump if you press jump before the kick animation ends. The lightspeed attack is never fucking explained anywhere, most of the time you want to use it in flight formation to kill enemies with a single thundershoot. Switch to power formation on the same frame you thundershoot to gain 33% of a team blast. Switch to power formation during a light dash then immediately jump and triangle glide to fly at incredibly high speed. I could hit the character limit with all the cool shit this game has.

>If you switch from speed to flight you will lose all your momentum because the power character falls behind then slams into the bottom of the stack at mach one trying to catch up.
This only happens if the Power character is too far away, although that tends to be the case a fair amount of times. You can circumvent it by switching from Speed to Power and then Flight instantly.

When this doesn't happen you can pull some sick jumps by doing the Rocket Accel into Flight formation.

>The game is riddled with glitches and oversights that can screw you over but if you fuck around with the game's mechanics enough you can find workarounds
Wew lad, sure sounds "smooth"

The Sonic Adventure games.

I mean I liked em, but they kicked things off.

I like how the secret to beating all the Special Stages is to just stay in Power formation the entire time.

because it's the only redeeming quality. The levels are merely minigames to farm rings, drives, and animals
