This wouldn't have been bad design if they had indicated that all you have to do is stand on the damn thing and press up and down as you go up and down on it.

The problem is OP's brain never developed past infancy.

DS3, the sage Mage being "hidden" in a clusterfuck of a derilict building. You get to the Boreal barrier by playing all the areas to their dead ends, but the doll needed to progress you only find by getting into an entire section of the game accessible only via one obscure fucking entry point with no hints or indication as to where it might be.
