Yeah, it's good. When it came out there was a shitstorm around it and the fanbase is still 90% cringe, but the game itself is solid.

It's an amazing game that will reignite your childlike wonder for video games. Unfortunately some really cringy people like this game and as a result you shouldn't get too caught up in it.

It's good, but just like any other popular game, you should stay away from the fandom.

good, but with everything that gets popular on tumblr/reddit its fanbase is concentrated autism.

There's fish tits in it. So as a Christian americuck I don't know.

>It's good, but I won't explain why

That's a funny way of admitting that it isn't actually any good.

You didn't ask for an explanation. You asked if it was good or not

Avoid the fanbase at all costs. The game itself isn't that bad but I feel like the message is a little hamfisted at times.

Any information about gameplay or story would be a spoiler for this game. Going into it completely blind is the best way.

It started off really cool, they came the Homestuck fanbase who intergrated themselves into the Undertale fanbase, then it got bad.

Then Frisk started to be shipped with Sans, then it hit rock fucking bottom.

kys

Mediocre game and derivative of the much, much better Mother 3

It's good because it's literally the best game ever according to everyone that actually played it. Think about that for a second.

It's a fun ride with charming characters, decent to great music, and a general fondness for fucking about with the rules of the genre and even the rules it sets up for itself. I'd say it's definitely worth a playthrough, just make sure you don't go out of your way to look it up on tumblr and you'll avoid about 90% of why Sup Forums hates it.

It's literally "haha funny baseball joke xDDD" if you mean the Sans boss. It's weak at best.

The only thing I liked is what the game does at the final Flowey fight but even games like OneShot improve on that and do stuff like mention your name of the PC user, change the desktop image, etc.

Also system this isn't spam.

Good job moving your goal post, now do everyone a favor and kill yourself.

I notice that the people recommending the game are dancing around the issue as to why Undertale is such a reviled game.

It simply does not deserve the game it gets.

It does not defy your expectations in any meaningful way, at least not in the way the real classics of the genre have done in the past. Things such as failing to save the world in Final Fantasy VI or learning just who the traitor is in Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean strike way harder than anything Undertale tries to do, which basically amounts to shaming you for playing a video game.

Which, coincidentally, is the major problem with the fanbase at large. These people do NOT LIKE PLAYING VIDEO GAMES. Undertale, to them, is the best game ever because they have nothing really to compare it to.

I dunno, I think it does some interesting stuff to defy expectations regarding narrative/mechanics and how a game of this type "should be played" that makes it worth recommending. I do agree with you that it's certainly overhyped, and I also think you're right to say that the majority of its fans simply haven't experienced much of what games can do regarding narrative or emotional investment.

Pretty broad accusation there, user. I love games and I love Undertale.

>"Does not deserve the game it gets"
I'm going to assume this is a typo. So because you liked the mechanics in other games more, you think that Undertale is trash?

It's Mother 3 tier cringe, illustrated by Zac Gorman, turned up to 11.

You should probably close out of this thread and make the decision on your own. Undertale tends to spawn some cringe ass arguments

I can't think of anything that is cringy about Mother 3. Care to enlighten me, user?

Just play it and see for yourself

It's okay. I like the battle system. Whether you like the game is really more about whether you can get into the humour and mood of the game though. The soundtrack is pretty good.

If you have played other Undervanias before it will probably change your view on them.

>2hu
>an undervania

it has some good jokes on games themselves and some interesting mechanics but the plot is very predictable and some characters obnoxiously cringy and unrelatable if you ever had actual friends or functional relationships in general

> -vania
Why?

Megalovania

>Implying SMT is at all similar to Undertale
This is good bait.

Why not just call it Baiten Kaitos?
And you can't really judge a game just by its plot twists. Sure BK was a great game with an amazingly done twist but that's not the only reason UT is considered to be good. It's a good game, funny at times with the right dose of self awareness. Gameplay isn't special but it manages to remain fresh by constantly changing the formula each boss. It's enjoyable.

This.

What was the message of Undertale?

boards.fireden.net/v/search/image/4mliP8QWc3LsJUZUGP1AbQ/

The gameplay is fucking shit, the graphics are fucking shit, the story is fucking shit, but the music, the music is quite good.

To spread the word of video games and that they have a meaning to them, to the pope.

It's very good. Gameplay-wise it's sort of a less good Mother/Earthbound, but the writing personally hit me harder than those games did. Unlike most games, Undertale's story wouldn't work as well as it does in any medium other than a video game.

>people discuss a game on Sup Forums using its logo
woah........... really........................... makes me think............................................

FREDDY KILLED SANS XXDXD OFMG UNDERTALE FNAF CROSSOVERS WOWOWO
I LOVE FNF VERY GOOD GAME TOY CYKA IS MY WAIFO IM A GAME THEROYST

>Gameplay-wise it's sort of a less good Mother/Earthbound
The combat in Undertale is very different to the combat in the Mother series.

There really isn't one. A lot of people say the message is a poorly executed "killing is wrong", but I don't agree. Sure, you get the best ending by not killing anything, but you don't necessarily get the bad ending unless you go out of your way to kill absolutely everything.

Its good because it does a good job of combining a bunch of pre-existing genres together into one unique hodgepodge in a sort of Valkyria Chronicles-esque fashion, and it also does a good job of giving reasons for all of the characters' personalities, thus making it easier to care about them and what happens to them making the game effective at telling a sad story.

Played only half an hour of it, I didn't know if I should continue or not, and I didn't.

>Frisk with Sans

Nyet,

That you should take responsibility for your actions and that your actions have consequences, be they positive or negative.

The only thing that's different is the bullet hell part

If you don't like the story, then keep the game on until you get 3 trading cards, they are still worth around $0,20 on the Steam market.

If you got the PC version, that is.

It's okay. Music is god tier and the sprite work is nice but the gameplay is meh.

Can't wait to go back and do a genocide run, it looks phenomenal.

Its a wild ride but its also frustrating due to the fact that there's only two major fights in it. A lot of it is mindless grinding

...

It's pretty much Undyne and Sans right?

Also, did anything end up getting revealed about the supposed third skeleton brother?

I skip all stories in video games I play and I pirated it, but thanks for the advice anyways.

>tfw you beat the game but then IT'S FLOWY TIIIIIME

I was too taken aback the first time it happened and I lost, then the fact that it reboots the games and kicks you out genuinely unsettled me. It's been a while since a game actually fucked me up like that.

Are you one of those people who skips cutscenes and dialogue and is then like "What am I supposed to do? This game sucks"?

SJW game that was pushed specifically for this reason.

It's kill or be killed. Don't listen to Asriel, he just wusses out at the end.

...

You say that like it's not a significant difference along with the sparing. The Mother series has its quirks, but it's ultimately not too far from the DQ tree it fell from.

Well, I pick the game for it's gameplay most of the time, if I see it story driven like Brothers or LOU I skip it, most games I played are platformers anyways and I prefer linear ones anytime. Lately I've been playing 2 games though without skipping anything which are The Witcher 3 and Avadon, and I enjoy reading what story they have because the narrative is so good and I;m a fan of old fantasy and novels. I wont pretend I never asked What am I supposed to do because I skipped a cutscene but I;m not a faggot that'll blame the game for my own stupid decisions.

Play the game .
Listen to the OST and remixes.
Ignore the fan base completely .

>Nyet,
Slava, please continue your sentence. I want to know what you had to say.

Yeah it's pretty good, it's a little pretentious with its humour but it rides with it well so that's not a big deal

>pretentious with its humour
What does that even mean?

Not him but it's heavilty relying on memes and "it's so bad you laugh at it!" type of humor

>that good
no
>good
yes

Game is good, worth a play. Just don't go near the fans and you should have a good time.

>heavilty relying on memes
Did I miss something? The only memes I saw in the game were the memes it created itself.

It means the opposite of humble user

It's got a great sense of humor, interesting if memey characters and a world with plenty of little tidbits and details that make it fun to explore. The kind og game where you enjoy reading item descriptions and talking to NPCs. Pretty short though and the bullet hell isn't everyone's jam. Get it on a sale.

>Realise Sans and Papyrus text is in the font

It was little things like that that made it enjoyable. It reminded me of how Earthbound had shit like special dialogue for when you call home depending on what was happening.

Top tier bait there

>memes it created itself
Yeah, I was talking about them, some of them just felt too forced. But also pic related, the whole part with Alphys was just reddit level ironic anime memes all over.

I thought it was mediocre. I didn't hate it, and I managed to finish it (which is at least more than one of my friends, who ragequit at Papyrus's "funny" dialogue) but I don't think it was some grand achievement in video games.

First four posts are complaining about the fanbase.

You are fucking WORSE than the fanbase.

He asked if the game was fun not what the fanbase is like you miserable wankers.

OK

It's not fun

>EXP stands for Execution Points

and that's when I turned the game off

The main message is that you shouldn't obsess over escapist media to the point that you start wringing it dry, eventually you need to let go and move on with your life. The game is especially blatant about this in the genocide route and with some comments characters only say during repeat playthroughs or if you're exhausting their dialogue.

I guess the "fanbase" didn't take that to heart, or it just flew over their heads.

Has the greatest video game music since sonic3&k

It's not as good as you heard

It's also not as bad as Sup Forums will tell you

It's pretty fun and quirky if you go into it with a light heart and just expecting to have a bit of fun, laugh a little, and feel some feels

>people who warned user about the fanbase being bad are worse than the said fanbase that wants to hump a moving pile of bones and creates an absurd amount of AUs and garbage-tier porn
Huh.

This user gets it.

Lmao, you retards are the fanbase, you're cringy and embarassing. The game isn't good or amazing it's ok. And you faglords shouldn't hype up the game, if you want people to actually like it
