I think the problem is that instead of making up stories companies are just trying their hardest to bring IRL bullshit into videogames which translates into constant political talk. Also the more the technology advances, the more developers feel like they need to give a complex story to the game when it is known that videogame writers are what they are because they are failed writers, instead of just making a fun game with a goose silly story.
