He's an absolute beast. There are a number of reasonably difficult encounters that he can stroll through on his own thanks to his excellent saving throws and and ability to straight up ignore most magic while enraged.
As a character he's pretty likable in a "gruff asshole that doesn't take shit from anyone" kind of way.
