>EA are literal cancer
I mean is it even news at this point?

>I want this product to make less money!
He deserved it 2bh

Considering we're going through the cycle again with Battlefront 2, yeah, it's fucking news to people still.

>the profit motive trumps ethics
Do libertarians actually believe this?

Fuck you, you kike.

If you get bought by EA and they are funding your shit, you have to listen to them.

I don't like microtransactions as much as the next guy but if your boss who is paying for your shit and is the sole reason why your indie company is thriving, you do what he says.

there's nothing unethical about making a profit when nobody is forced to buy your product

Good riddance to a worthless idea guy commie faggot. Hope he dies in a ditch from hunger, like the billions killed by commies. Would be an ironic death.

do you guys work retail like geek squad at bestbuy and refuse to talk about warranties because muh personal reasons then bitch when you get fired?

Why is my favorite company acting like complete dicks overnight? What happened at EA all of a sudden?!

Gouging someone's creation for the sake of pure profit when they don't want to is scummy as all hell.

Go to Jew hell.

This happened years ago. It’s only being brought up now because of the lootbox news.

i don't get the butthurt. if you don't like micro transactions don't buy games with them.

#notmypresident

>work for company
>refuse to listen to your superiors
WOOOOW WHY DID I GET FIRED

He's smart. The community knows him and for anyone stupid enough to both work for EA and to release a game with lootboxes, it's career suicide. At least now he can collect unemployment.

If he kept them in there, his reputation would be ruined, and EA would fire him when people start protesting future games...due to lootboxes.

but it's EA's creation

This has to be ironic

They won't get away with this

He does look kind of evil. In a handsome way.

>Jew hell
Jews don't actually believe in an "afterlife." It can be viewed as to why they're evil as they feel their actions don't have consequences.

Making your "product" locked behind an artificial pay wall of gambling deterred by ridiculous grinding is a scummy business practice.

I'm pretty sure Jews believe in a heaven.

he sold his rights to the ip, so EA can control what they do with it. no coercion there.

if you don't like what they do don't buy their products, if you really don't like it, try to convince others not to buy it. simple as that

>make game worth millions in early post-iphone smartphone boom
>gameplay is a bit limited, gimic a little tired
>sell out to EA for millions more
>they fire you but you got millions and some rep

OK

>maximising short term profits is the best! fuck estabilishing good relations with clientele for long term gains
you know this industry is about to collapse when this is the mindset of its biggest players

He is the final boss of vidya industry.

If you guys think you can do better why not form your own publishing company and be the saviors of video games?

oh right.

EA deserves its golden poo highscore, but in this case, he sold his creation to EA in the pursuit of profit. It's not his anymore, it's theirs to do with as they please. If he doesn't like that, maybe he shouldn't have sold his right to it.

I've got an idea to make money
>make really good game
>sell lots of copies
>get your company bought by EA for lots of money
>quit after it's bought

if that's so less people will buy the game, therefore they will lose money in the long term

It's not gambling and if it bothers you so much you can just play a game that doesn't use lootboxes, although it probably will have lower production values since it is effectively cheaper.

Pour years of your life into something, only to see if fail due to the mindless greed of your publisher. We need more developers like him!

Obviously EA has become too big to support itself through normal games. The problem is that no company aside from Disney, Microsoft, and Apple could afford them. They are probably trying to prevent from losing their market value entirely before such a buyout were to happen.

youtube.com/watch?v=0N1_0SUGlDQ

Unless you have not follow any news or games in the past 20+ years... Don't know why would you call it favorite company

Pretty much. He made promises to turn around the company's reputation, now look at it. Kind of hard to maximize profits when the world sees your company as a major problem with the industry.

IIRC Christians didn't actually really believe in heaven, they believe in Second Coming when people will raise from their graves (sucks if you were cremated) and be judged by God for their sins, or something like that.

EA was totally fucking fine during the retro and ps1 / 2 era

You're delusional

Also you're implying that EA was bad before they even started

so developers should self fund, or seek loans from banks or credit institutions if they don't have the capital required to fund the dev

So go to Sheol

If he wanted creative control he could have just retained ownership over his franchise, instead he sold it.

>you must be a master chef to know that a hamburger tastes like a leather shoe

No, they don't.

That bit where you sell lots of copies is the >??? step.
It's never going to reliably happen. A good game can reliably get enough sales, but to become and indie success story, it's a lottery even if you're good at marketing.

Out of the all the analogies to make a valid point you choose the food analogy.

but Sup Forums keeps telling me that games with shitty graphics and no marketing budget will do better than EA, what's stopping them from adopting that business model?

>you know this industry is about to collapse when this is the mindset of its biggest players
that's the mindset of any big business player

But that's totally fucking right.

Master chef's spend decades perfecting their palate.

am I being baited here or Sup Forums actually defends microtransactions and lootboxes?
Every thread a lot of people defend this shit

>EA was totally fucking fine

There is nothing wrong with lootboxes because it's optional.

If you dont want to spend the money, ignore it.

eh i don't think they should get rid of microtransactions. it helps me get better costumes or skins (whatever the fuck people call it today)

All major corporations pull the same crap. They wine you and dine you, while promising a massive paycheck and salary...if you sell them the only reason why they are talking to you. It's nice for the actual IP owner, but absolute hell for the development team. That's why Notch's former staff hate him. A comfy, peaceful job turns into a slave camp.

>something exists that I don't like that has no effect on me if I don't buy it
Adults respond by not buying it. Reddit responds by demanding the government step in and regulate the entire industry.

Dice modeled the main villain after this guy in Mirror's Edge 2

Nobody is forcing anyone to work there. Nobody was forced to sell their IP to EA.

Defending poor decisions to lower the public's outrage is an old social media marketing strategy. Blizzard did it for ages on their official forums. The best non-employees became MVPs.

I don't think you know anything about EA's history.

I legit think it's shills. These people just appeared out of nowhere after this whole EA shit started popping up. When that facebook image to try getting moms to complain about EA to the mouse appeared they were saying people shouldn't share it because sharing "inaccurate information" was the wrong way to go about this. As if people on here give a shit about that.

jesus christ

People thought this about Bobby Kotick a decade ago, but now you see MW2 nostalgia threads on Sup Forums. Gamers are fucking retarded.

Because MW2 was a great game. Gamers are just entitled children that want amazing games with great graphics but then are shocked when the developers asks you for money in return for their product.

There was nothing wrong with MW2 except for maybe the really expensive DLC maps

>creating a business model that relies on gambling addicts to fund your company is okay because people don't have to pay if they don't want to
Wew lads

Fuck, that was great.

I already miss that one guy whose name I can't remember... Ricotta Pepperoni or something like that?

>Because MW2 was a great game.
it was shit.

>having such a shit argument that you need to resort to lying about children spending thousands of dollars gambling in order to make people listen

That's irrelevant, the guy knew he'd probably get fired for saying no, and stuck to his guns. The title of "EA fired guy for not wanting pay to win" is completely accurate, even if you take into account that it makes "sense" in only that EA is a fucking shit company.

>moving away from dedicated servers

>there was nothing wrong with MW2
Sure, if it was your first CoD game. Did you forget "not balanced for lean"? Or the reviewers being taken to a hotel for their review (a process that EA helped normalize)?

Being Amoral doesn’t make you better than being immoral. Just means you’re even less human, more like a blob or a black hole that sucks in more and more junk because making money and making a lot of money isn’t enough for fiduciary rights eh? No no, we must MAXIMIZE PROFITZ AND MAKE ALL OF ZHE MONEY

Yeah, Riceroni was pretty fun to make fun of. He must have been the one keeping Bioware afloat, considering they basically got shafted after he left.

>Woman working for courts is fired for refusing to give out gay marriage certificates
>reddit hates and thinks she should be arrested
>Man working for EA is fired for refusing to add content to a game
>reddit thinks he's a hero
hmm

the tendency in stable industries is to maintain the growth in value

WTF I love PvZ now

>Reddit has opinion
>Reddit has other opinion
hmm

I heard about this last week on the Roundtable podcast where Edmund McMillan spilled the beans.

Two twinks being able to bone is a better outcome than microtransactions.

But wasn' t PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES 2 "pay to win" for like forever?

>fuckton of limited events and limited-time plants
>almost no new zombie mechanics, and the new ones are exclusive to their worlds instead of adding to the pool of zombies as you progress
>levels become so frustratingly difficult with gargantuars and plant-disabling zombies spam you have no choice but buying plants or using superpowers
>final world boss is literally a fucking boss rush of 3 random past bosses

Goddamn EA, I was hyped for this sequel and you ruined it.

Was this what Edmund was talking about on the roundtable podcast?

It was a decent game objectively. It brought a few new tools for your guns, different perks, but nothing crazy gameplay changing from the first MW. The balance was definitely a bit messed up with some of the guns but there were enough weapons that you could experiment with to make unexpected combos to beat "meta-shitters." Quickscoping sucks though in my opinion, but cool that people can be skilled enough to do it so quickly.

>government job
vs
>private sector

Really ducking brilliant logic there brainlet. And last I checked, religion isn’t an excuse to not do your goverment, nor should the frequently divorced lard have any right to tell people they don’t have the right to marry by she does.

You know there's a term in the industry for people like that, right? They're called "whales", because they contribute such a bloated amount of wealth to you, likely more than they can afford to. But go ahead and plug your ears and pretend that nothing's wrong with AAA companies fucking their consumers in the ass.

EA is a piece of shit.

you are one of the dumbest anons I saw in a long time.
Congratulations

that's a term from gambling that reddit started using to associate lootboxes with casinos as part of their fallacious argument against EA

This is my currant situation, i hear my coworker bitch about being fired after doing fuck all for a year, young idiot is on his phone playing mobile game instead of working and now he pretends like it's not his fault. I call him out then he agrees then he continuesbto bitch out about the evil hierarchy. Motherfuck learn your place, kill me pete.

I was on consoles primarily back then with high school friends :^)
that is shitty though

>REEEEE WHY CAN'T I DISCRIMINATE AT MY GOVERNMENT JOB AND TALK ABOUT EA GAMES

One day I will own these micro- transactions

Yeah I think the problem is that a lot of Sup Forums now was underage when MW2 came out. Most of you people who like it were in middle school or high school. Low standards.

Its a shills + marketer. Ask anybody who works in social media more than a 3 years. Now they can swear and but mostly they cant perosnaly attack anyone. Like "it a dumb to think EA is evil" but they cant "only idiots think that EA is evil".

Also, like 1-2 weeks ago there were two junior marketers trying to shill bf2 and failing at it

>that's a term from gambling that reddit started using
Nigga, its a term the companies themselves use.

>EA is evil
MORE NEWS AT 11!

Sup Forums post 2014 everyone

>WTF why are news sites reporting on murders, duuh murderer's murder, more news at 11!

H-HOW DO WE STOP THEM BROS
