It looks like a meme to me.

Glenda deserves a more careful drawing than that.

that's super cute! good job!

I'm gonna hang that up on the fridge right now!

some people just like it when their stuff "just werkz" and if i need the experience of having to compile my softwarte instead of just running an .msi file i simply install bash on windows 10 and run whatever I want to run. can you install windows on linux?

...

but you have to compile. it's actually easier on linux. you just use your package manager instead of searching for the installer
also you can't simply install bash on windows 10. it's bloat btw use mksh/rc

>you can't simply install bash on windows 10

and no, in case you are thinking, its not a cheap emulation like cygwin. I can actually apt-get install vim and work with it.

What year is it, 2017?

cygwin > linux whatever from ms

That's your argument? That is impressively retarded

Yeah instead of just having one thing I can just change all the parts so it looks like that thing

What are you reasons?

>Yeah instead of just having one thing I can just change all the parts so it looks like that thing

Your response sounds just as retarded. This thread is pure shit posting and should closed.

>simply

and cygwin is actually better. bash for windows is basically emulation while cygwin is cross compiling

ftfy

2 osx

I really want to make the jump to Plan9 and write software for it, but I'm worried about making such a commitment. On one hand there doesn't seem to be many resources available for gradually learning the system so it might be difficult, but on the other hand it might be the best tool to use when it comes to networked/distributed tasks that can scale. Is it worth learning a whole OS for, one that really doesn't have much support?

enlightened uses os x for his DE and ascended uses it for the unix shell only

Plan9 is for users who fucking hate having actual software for their OS. It is peak neckbeard.

it has its use, but mostly not in general personal computing. It has more support than you'd think. also inferno is close to plan 9
all software you'd need is there

I planned to do it too.
It is just simply the best OS.
The plan for implementing stuff:
Usable modern web-browser (I'll take some minimal javascript engine like v7 and build the rest on top)
Video player (which basically means porting over ffmpeg)
GPU drivers (I have no idea how difficult it will be to port over the free linux drivers, but you never know unless you try)

after this plan9 will become just as usable as linux (for me).

You know that all the ideas in plan9 were ported over to other operating systems, in a far more secure way than it's originally been written in plan9? It had novel ideas -- that were ported over.

1. "secure"
2. ported, but not fully

The web browsing concept you describe kinda goes against the plan 9 philosophy. Besides it'd probably be very hard to do all that; no one really attempted that stuff before.

I dont really understand how a web browser goes against plan9 philosophy.
I understand why people hate javascript, but there is nothing to be done against it.
I want at least be able to browse the web.

...

There are web browsers. 2 of them. Abaco is in 9front. They aren't what you'd except

As far as i recall running Linux binaries ~natively~ has been possible for some time since microsoft published their binary wrapper for it. Though it suffers from same kind of issues as the aforementioned

aforementioned being Wine that somehow got cut with editing

Made me laugh.
10/10, would install again.

I know of them. But they are far from having the necessary amount of features
As far as I think a good web-browser is necessary for plan9 to become popular as a hobbyist os.
Writing one in c or go could be a big step towards plan9 becoming popular.
Using a minimal C Javascript engine, and building a small dom on top of it might be enough for a start.
v7 or such is pretty space efficient, is easy to use, and fares alright speed wise.
Next is a CS/HTML renderer.

bsd is the cuck brain fag

...

Duckduckgoing has led me to believe that 9front might work okay on my t530. Do I go for it?

Why not.
Its not really usable as a desktop os though imo.
If we get a good video player and a good browser one could use it as an excellent anime and shitposting device though.

what's that tilde

>my OS doesn't have a proper image editor
Just sad

urbit

I think he is making reference to the meme known as Urbit

what is second

>what is paint
can even load an image with some modifications to the code!

fuck off dawid

i bet ur a nigger

Plan 9 is probably the best environment to learn C. Just do it.

Reinventing the wheel
