It's not "bad"

So much as it's a further step in the wrong direction and 8.1 is better.

MS are getting their act together but my main problems with it are related to the inconsistent UI, two control panels and bugs related to said shit AI.

I work on a help desk and I've had to repair more windows 10 installs, where the explorer process claimed to be running but the start menu was completely inoperable, then I would care to remember.

>Reasons why windows sucks
NTFS is by far the worst modern file system
You can't change the Desktop environment or the window manager
It for some weird reason becomes slower the more programs you install
It doesn't have a package manager
It's more prone to viruses
Full Disk encryption is much worse than with any other platform
Less secure overall even when discounting botnet shit
That's all I can think of of the top of my head but there are many more.

i just like using linux more

My desktop crashed today.

I can not make this up, it went all white, then went back to my normal shit. Before it was all white, it was unresponsive.

if you are using low rpm hdd only or not ssd, its same in linux but you are in placebo effect so you can't actually see or feel it.

>It doesn't have a package manager
not needed

>It's more prone to viruses
Yes because its most used operating system so, also use CommonSense 2017 antivirus

does it get the job done? everything else irrevelant

fuck off faggot

"muh privacy" and "dem ebil jews are stealing muh porn folders" is the reason win10 is bad.
Do you enjoy being anally raped?

Not an argument.

>jews
>stealing porn folders
>not filling them

>"Program successfully installed. You need to restart your computer to complete the installation. Restarting..."

>but it will only be usable for a week because Windows has more holes than swiss cheese
>still need an anti-virus
>still need to defrag occasionally
>still need to reinstall Windows regularly due to windows rot (this is arguable, some people say that you won't get windows rot if you use you take precautions, but no such measure are required on other operating systems)
>BSOD- It is NEVER acceptable to let the entire operating system crash when a single application causes a problem, yet Windows allows it.
>can't change the Desktop UI without some broken hacky shit
>can't customize anything outside of what Microsoft "allows"; it's Microsoft's computer for as long as Windows is installed on it

not sure if trolling or retarded

Are you sure about that?

But it does suck having almost no control or info about updates. Of course, I'm supposed to trust Microsoft but it don't.

They're putting more between the user and the machine. The shiny new GUI panels for the control panel and shit like that is great for normies but not for us autists who want to have to know what's going on underneath. You're never going to crack open the cmd and start editing config files on win 10.

Basically, windows 10 =/= Arch Linux.
It just works. If it ain't broken, you can't fix it and it's not interesting.

>memes such as "muh privacy"
welcome to Sup Forums

SOUND TROUBLESHOOTING A SHIT

How will winshills ever recover (if they can even read more than 5 lines)

>"Just word from Stallman. Activate the Windows 10 Home Edition"

I also work helpdesk. That issue only happens to me with "upgrades". We don't upgrade any more, only clean installs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does Microsoft not publish a KB (whatever that is) article for every update?

>Muh freedoms

>things that never happened for 500 alex

Are any of you managing your Windows clients with Windows Server?

It's not that bad. But I do find that I have to do a system cleanup every 6 months or so. Check updates, defrag, uninstall programs I don't use anymore, look through the startup programs list, etc. But I also crack my machine open a couple times a year to clean the dust out.
Other than basic maintenance, I haven't had problems with windows 10.

he got all those from here:

I think Im epileptic now

>Explain why x is bad without explaining the reasons it's bad

Yes user WITHOUT crippling security issues and privacy breeches, it's not awful!

It's Windows (NT).

>things that still happen on windows
hahaha you fucking winfags are literal fucking plebs. These are not issues on every other OS but they are on your shitty little toy OS that you use to turn your computer into a glorified gaming console. kys

>privacy is a meme

Just fucking kill yourself.

The business model has changed to 'software as a service'. This isn't too bad by itself, but the consequence of the change meant certain items such as Windows Update, various programmes, and advertising are delivered in a way that takes much of the previous control that users had, and revokes it.

There's also that hardware bullshit, too, but that's intuitively fucking gross.

It's an eternal beta. MS fired the testers.
>memes such as "muh privacy"
You're a shortsighted retard.

is that sam hyde?

To simply sum it, other than the privacy concerns, the biggest reason I think most people abhor windows 10 is the "Microsoft knows what's best for you, so we'll handle everything" mentality.

The "you can turn windows defender off, but if it's off for a while we'll turn it back on automatically" mentality (pic related).

For the sake of "User security and ease of use" they're made everything they possibly can opt-out rather than opt-in, and often times "opting out" means running third party programs to manually disable services and registry edits which completely breaks other features.

And the worst part is? They just love to undo every change you've spent numerous painstaking hours making with every windows update without telling you... Updates that you can't choose not to get or indefinitely delay without going out of your way to disable windows update services in general... Removing the ability for you to see when there are updates and pick/choose.

no proper shell
lots viruses and malware
can't modify, extend it, or even understand it
costs money
a pain to develop on

> It doesn't have a package manager
> What is OneGet?

Too optimized, everything works faster so it assume there is a catch.

I thought about using windows 10 for the fun of trying to equip my mind to it's blatant surveillance, and try to trick or use my time like working for my own company of tricking the os into giving me more out than they actually want to give.

It's just generally much worse. The design, the speed, the customization. Nothing is better other than the fact that more things need it to run.

>Opening a program that requires admin makes whole screen useless with a flashy animation that makes it take even longer.
>No pictures in file picker.
>No dark theme.
>Start Panel is gigantic, even after you change settings. It's literally twice as big as it needs to be unless you're a blind toddler.
>X has stopped responding.
>Start search utility is horrendously unresponsive.
>No workspaces, can't quickly press a button to hide my porn windows.
>No package manager. Have to open a browser, search google for said program, then open it in the folder where you downloaded it as opposed to just going CTRL + ALT + T >> sudo apt-get install program name password ENTER
>Abundance of malware, which the bloated anti-virus can't even detect.

There's so much wrong with Windows.

Because its a buggy pile of shit that breaks with every major update.

The worst iteration of Windows ever created with the least amount of user freedom.

>Can Sup Forums explain why Windows 10 is bad without using the reasons Windows 10 is bad?
bad post

>can't modify, extend it, or even understand it
Your lack of understanding is not a product flaw

>no proper shell
>a pain to develop on
Nope

Safe to assume any post coupled with an image of Lain comes from a shitposting pedophile manchild.

>Nope
Do you actually believe that?
Go check out the Windows Store some time.
Go look at the comments for any major Android app that has a port.

>Windows Store
You're doing it wrong

Sure kid.
Microsoft is pushing Windows as a service, they already try and force you to use the Windows Store to install programs.
Next year they will have the cloud version of Windows released so you can run x86 shit on ARM.
It will be slower than a chromebook and fail miserably and Sup Forums will be flooded with poo in the loo jokes.

Install all applications to to 7EN/10LTSB as silent packages via SCCM paired with SQL 2012 Standard or higher running on Windows Server 2016/2012R2 Hyper-V

>Bad flat ugly UI
>Microsoft is just adding tabs to File Explorer
>Crashes alot buggy as all hell
>The most targeted OS for Viruses

That's just the tip of the iceberg

SBCL (Steel Bank Common Lisp) does not have native multithreading on Win32 systems.

Stop using my waifu to shill windows, she uses Linux.

main reasons:
1- having to restart the system to apply changes (drivers, program installations et cetera)
2- having to wait for the system to finish updating so it can actually turn off/reboot for further usage
3- slower system responsiveness compared to fresh install once multiple update patches have been installed
4- bad software design eg: explorer.exe is actually tied to the taskbar so if your file manager stops responding it crashes the taskbar with it
5- inconsistency eg: powershell and CMD, two control panels and the list goes on
6- high amount of viruses due to the OS marketshare
irrelevant reasons that people still bring up:
1 - UI sucks (you can tweak it a lot if you know what you're doing)
2 - Telemetry (it all comes down to how patient you are at following guides on how to make Windows reasonably more trustworthy, even if won't turn out to be perfect)
3- fragmentation: now really true unless you're using an old hard drive that would be prone to failing anyways

>Privacy is a meme

Kys

I'm sorry, I cant hear you over my, transparent, native, multichoice, fully free & open; compression and snapshots.

MUH PRIVACY and ADS in the OS.

Other than that it is pretty great.

No, it's the french terrorist that shot cops.

Random I/O on NTFS makes database operations a hellish nightmare.
millions of less than 4k sized files can take weeks to shift even on a reasonably fast SSD RAID.

Ever since the creators update opening up any program is way slower.

Neither is telling people they can't use certain arguments for no reason.

it was fine until the anniversary update. now its unusable.

DELET THIS

They do, but they also lie about what updates do and descriptions are pretty vague when you compare it to average linux package manager. What's even worse is that they lie about contents of recommended security updates.

10>7>8

Less comfy than 7. Mac 4 lyfe(until I switch to Linux)

Window management on Macs is a fucking nightmare.

No. It's the best thing with a magic mouse and all the swipey stuff.

BSD

No, it's purely fictional.
In the entire series no one has mentioned a real os.
The Copeland os enterprise was just a reference to a apple's project (the os in the series was produced by the Tachibana Laboratories).
Even if you would look at it from a writter perspective it would make sense.
People would not argue over a fictional os.

since you wouldn't care if the fbi kicked your door open to watch you take a bath and jerk off
>less compatibility with old programs (good luck running mechwarrior 4)

just use an iphone, you fruity faggot

Forced update and requirement to not shut down right when my laptop is low on battery and I need to go out somewhere with it.

>if you are using low rpm hdd only or not ssd, its same in linux but you are in placebo effect so you can't actually see or feel it
Taking over 15 seconds to launch a web browser on a perfectly fine computer is not placebo.
And it doesn't happen in Linux, as far as I've used it.

thats why i use posready2009 and have considered suicide before EOL

It's the one Windows I removed in frustration during testing it was so bad doing background shit like this.

>You're never going to crack open the cmd and start editing config files on win 10.
because they use registries?

>registeries
That's the reason why people like me hate windows.
It's a huge cluster fuck.

>It's a huge cluster fuck.
true but the .conf are also a cluster fuck not? atleast in linux... put the damm configs in /etc!

Get Pro edition thinking I'll be spared needless retarded hand holding. Cortona asks if I'll need an umbrella as Candy Crush magically reinstalls itself. Microsoft is a joke.

horrible fucking UI, it's so inconsistent. all I want is windows 10 with Windows 7 UI, even if it means selling all my data to M$

>Can Sup Forums give me reasons for why Win10 isn't shit except for why it's shit

At one point the start menu just stopped working
I had to make a new user account to fix it
Also it breaks the audio driver every now and then

Stop using Vista.

>NTFS is by far the worst modern file system
That's not HFS+

It's ironic how shitty windows drivers have gotten, used to be way worse on linux but now if drivers do exist they work so much nicer.

Yeah, that's true to some degree.
At least in linux you can link them to one directory.

Poor performance, bloated drivers, enormous power consumption, useless deprecated filesystems, deprecated graphics stack.

its for tablets

Easiest way to see is just to use another computer (e.g. a mac) and see how much better it is in UI and and the like. You'll realize after about 5 minutes how less bloated and more consistent the UI is.

e.g. Apps on Windows
>Desktop Shortcut
>Quick launch shortcut on the start bar
>In start menu

That's not counting search plus the actual location in program files or whatever.

Meanwhile on OSX
>All apps are under "launchpad"
>Can be put on the dock for quick access

Linux usually fine too, I'm using OSX as an example because there are tons of looks for Linux, don't get triggered faggots.

People use Windows for years so they get used to the bloat and redundancy. Once you try something else you realize just how shit its become. Windows is like a messy room, it crept up up on you so you don't realize how shit it really is, because your used to it.

>dash

kys desu

taskbar locking shortcuts is faster than a Mac though?

and both of them suffer from being bloated as fuck

Wangblows isn't shit, it's perfectly fine for the average PC user and while nearly as outrageous they don't charge as high a (false)pricemark as Apple. That said Macs have their uses too in media development.

Fact is every OS is fine. It's just that Linux let's you fully customize your experience should you have the patience to learn how. And the free software game be poppin.

>At least in linux you can link them to one directory.
well yes that is a useful workaround for a problem that should not exist..

It's a good solution when you want to install packages to places that aren't your config directory cause who would want that?

HFS+ is worse

the illuminati is real

>taskbar locking shortcuts is faster than a Mac though?
Dunno. Don't think so but I was talking more about UI.

There are things people learn to deal with on Windows, that don't really have to be that way. It's been like this forever so we're all used to it.
Like the fact deleting a shortcut doesn't delete the app.

On Windows there is a real lack of a place to just see all the applications. For some reason, the best place to actually see shit is the "uninstall a program" list. The start bar used to be the go to area, but it's too clogged up with shit now.

On install, sometimes they create shortcuts on desktop, sometimes some other place. There's just no consistency to where things are. I don't even know what's on my desktop(Windows) because shit is all over the place. Even in the file system, some things are in Program Files, others are not. Basic apps like notepad for example, are elsewhere. For all I know Candy Crush is somewhere on there. I don't know where shit is on my windows desktop while on my mac I have a good idea of what I do and don't have and I can delete it.
