The only reason nyaa is useful in the first place is that fansub groups like to dump stuff on there. If it became a private tracker I have a feeling most would stop using it as their main distribution point and go elsewhere.
Also worst case I could just start auto-downloading from AB or BTN, though this would break Taiga's convenient one-click autodownloader so I somewhat hope it doesn't come to this.

Also does nyaa even track stats for registered users? I thought it was just so you could upload stuff and comment and shit. BBT was always "semi-private" with some features barred to pub users (most notably search, though you could always just log in to search something and then log out before downloading it) and enforced private-tracker-esque rules on those who did make accounts. Guess this is true. Also I think Taiga can snatch from any RSS feed now that I think of it so I guess it wouldn't be that much hassle reconfiguring it to use AB.
