Cinnamon it's the best de

tty

Gnome if you want something that just werks.

If you like Qt, install KDE.

If you like GTK, install GNOME.

If you like GTK but think GNOME has buttons literally designed for autistic iPads, use Cinnamon.

If you don't know what any of this means, install GNOME or Cinnamon depending on your thoughts on the previous statement.

Nice blogpost :DDDDD
FAGGOT

go back to your shit website

Who hurt you user?

tty7 is the default for 3d displays

If you want something that was designed by basement dwellers, go with KDE or Cinnamon.

If you want something that was designed by actual professionals, go with GNOME.

Either Gnome or XFCE

>Loonix
>Professionals
Microsoft UI is designed by actual professionals, unlike your basedwelling nigger tier """professionals""".

use DWM

>Redhat
>Multi-billion dollar company
>not professionals

GNOME

get i3wm faggot

...

Anything but GNOME

...

>actual professionals
>Fisher Price tablet UI

>basement dwellers
>classic desktop UI that just works

android or chrome os.

Install i3

Install SourceMage

A billion dollars? That's really cool!

Only problem is a majority of customers run that operating system headless & RHEL license bux aren't really put toward desktop usability tests compared to Microsoft in the lead up to Windows 95.

you're retarded and have never touched a Linux-based distro in your entire life.

>Implying

ok fine, but seriously uncheck use system title bar and borders
that looks like shit

KDE
+ well integrated with many applications, customizable, powerful, modern, dolphin, konsole, krunner etc are great
- buggy, resource hungry

Cinnamon
+ intuitive, customizable, polished,
- buggy, a Windows rip-off

Gnome
+ easy, very stable, modern, just werks, loads of extensions
- annoying extension management, rather limited in its features, looks like Fisher Price

everything except i3 is jew baby toys designed for windows refugees
if you want a real DE get fucking i3 and stop being such a pussy

XFCE retard. Nothing else is even worth mentioning

>i3 isn't a DE

KDE just works, get GNOME if you want to spend hours on making it not look and function like ass

KDE uses less resources than Gnome you clown

GNOME is the least shit of the bunch probably, as long as you're not using the latest release it should be well supported and stable.

top reason why I prefer Linux over Windows desu

>current year+2
>using DE

MATE!!!

Hi buddy,

if you have a good computer/laptop just use kde or budgie. KDE is your best bet. It's stable, works, has a lot of functions.

>KDE
>classic desktop UI that just works
Pick one (1), retard

>people actually like GNOME

XFCE

Thanks for the replies gents, I think I'll go with KDE. Tried all three in a VM and I'm liking KDE the most.

DEs are shit, get Openbox.

KDE ofc. I used GNOME and hibernate or lock screen didn't work.

deepin

gnome with extensions

>Microsoft UI is designed by actual professionals

You mean pajeets taking FB pics of them on their cell phone in the parking lot?

>professionals can't be normal people
Not everyone is a lonely neckbeard.

I3

How come they thought giving a computer a phone interface was a good idea? I mean gnome looks clean but the fucking android tier menus are ass.

Yes. Learn to switch between them, configure each one to where you like it, then decide which one to keep.

Oh fuck I'm really liking that. What plugins are you running?

Agreed. I also have the most customization in the world.

you must be at least 18 to post on this board

>people like something i don't
what a surprise

Gnome.
If you dont have a good reason to use either of the others, gnome is the biggest and the most flexible.

Also ubuntu is gonna do great things for gnome, if nothing else than userbase.

KDE and Cinnamon are both fine, pick whatever suits you better. Maybe MATE even.

Don't touch GNOME 3 if you can avoid it.

>tfw you lived to see this statement become true
What went wrong

Until some upgrade break it.

Is there an official gtk theme choser for gnome? Or do you use config files?

dawg, mind posting that wallpaper?

wiki.gnome.org/action/show/Apps/GnomeTweakTool

Yes there is. Comes by default on most distributions shipping GNOME. Not with Fedora, I think, but I don't think that's their target audience.

GNOME

Install cinnamon linux mint.

If you want a proper file picker and no screen tearing, install KDE.

That is actually pretty nice. I use arch and what I liked most about the wm only setup is that I have full control over what exactly is installed and how everything is set up.
But with most DEs there is no documentation. I don't even know wheater GNOME uses a compositor or how the background image is set. And why right now it isn't showing for me anymore.

Anything but GNOME or KDE

xfce

KDE is no more resource hungry (300-400mb after boot in arch), and is very feature rich, nice aesthetic, and is STABLE (yes, it is no longer buggy, months of using it and no bug from a long time)
i would recommend anyone doubting to just try it
also, the screenshot utility and dolphin are just awesome

I'm using Linux mint with kde, I'm quite liking it.

Windows

>Woman attacked by chimp
not nice of them to call Tyrone that

How does this image make you feel?

>i3
you mean window manager?

Why do so many people prefer Gnome over KDE? The only reasoning people give are outdated memes like "KDE crashes so much" which is a PEBKAC problem or or "KDE uses too many resources" when Gnome uses more. Gnome requires a bunch of ricing for it to not look and function like shit while KDE is the best looking and most functional DE out of the box.

I use KDE and I have problem with tray icons.
Programs made with electron framework (discord, franz, skypeforlinux..) don't react to left click, and tray icons look fucked up

it feels kinda off for some reason

Which is the best for high-dpi monitors?

>the bouncing launch feedback
>windows that are being moved turn transparent for some reason
>unaesthetic blue bars in the taskbar
>window title being shown in the taskbar window preview
>fewer themes than gtk
>why is cashew still a thing
>the default breeze alt-tab switcher sucks
>resizing a panel precisely is kinda hard or maybe I'm just retarded
>the default digital clock widget gets horribly large font because it fills out all the vertical space that is available in the panel and thus looks kinda ugly

>can be turned off
>can be disabled
>can be changed with the theme
>so what?
>most gtk themes stop working whenever gtk updates
>it's not, it's a hamburger menu now (also can be disabled)
>there's half a dozen alt tab switchers to choose from out of the box with configurable effects
>can only be done pixel precise in a config file
>can be replaced with a different time plasmoid

Everything you wrote can be changed.

Plasma 5.9 is here

gnome

just installed gnome, really enjoying the reasonable-sized titlebars

>can be turned off
I thought we were talking about defaults
>so what?
it annoys me because the non-icon-only taskbar already shows the full window title but it's just a minor issue

desu I just installed it and it's really good now

>GNOME
>windows 8 start screen
>wasted space everywhere
>still no thumbnails in file picker

no thanks

we were, I'm just pointing out that everything is configurable without the need to install ~10 shell extensions

If you are a capitalist, God fearing, America loving man, you'll stop using Comunix and go with Windows or Mac.

Open source is communism.

windows vista

Problem with GNOME is that it needs extensions to make it good and usable

I fail to see how that is a bad thing.

It's bad because they all break and have to be re-written every time they update GNOME

How can anyone even use this piece of shit anymore when Dolphin exists?

Gnome

It's worth noting that if you have a touchscreen input or convertible laptop/tablet, or 4k,you're pretty shit out of luck unless you use Gnome. If you had habits of tweaking every fucking system detail to your precise liking, use kde, otherwise, I highly recommend XFCE as an all around desktop.
You can theme qt and gtk to look strikingly similar.

What are some must haves for making Gnome not look like shit aside from Tweak Tools and Dash to Dock?

If you're in to android, check out the adapta or paper themes, if you like the windows 7 taskbar, dash to panel is way nicer than dash to dock

Dynamic top bar

Xfce i3 then perhaps kde

This. I tried gnome a year and a half back and I couldn't see the point of making my machine harder to use than my phone.

Are you saying that this linux can run on a computer without windows underneath it, at all ? As in, without a boot disk, without any drivers, and without any services ?
That sounds preposterous to me.
If it were true (and I doubt it), then companies would be selling computers without a windows. This clearly is not happening, so there must be some error in your calculations. I hope you realise that windows is more than just Office ? Its a whole system that runs the computer from start to finish, and that is a very difficult thing to acheive. A lot of people dont realise this.
Microsoft just spent $9 billion and many years to create Vista, so it does not sound reasonable that some new alternative could just snap into existence overnight like that. It would take billions of dollars and a massive effort to achieve. IBM tried, and spent a huge amount of money developing OS/2 but could never keep up with Windows. Apple tried to create their own system for years, but finally gave up recently and moved to Intel and Microsoft.
Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer from start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows. Not possible.
I think you need to re-examine your assumptions.
