Holy shit, Sup Forums is currently shilling VLC and Windows Media Player for watching Anime. I didn't know it had gotten this bad.

Post your mpv configs and lets save them.

Reminder that MPV actually works well on Android. Video and audio playback is perfect. It just needs to improve the settings.

Need mpv configs too

mpv, gom [:^)], or gtfo

they shill the CCCP

I'm curious as to install this.

Neckbeard.

You can either go to Google Play Store and install it there or you can go to GitHub and compile the newest one yourself.

I used default settings with a couple of keybind changes desu. I can't really notice a significant difference in quality that justifies the GPU temp increase.

>having an iphone
>having some smartphone
>trying to customize android
you are a new york jew aren't you

if they're doing it, they're trolling. and you fell for it

Any decent configs for a mediocre laptop? Currently with the default settings VLC is performing better than mpv on my machine.

What should I use instead of af=drc=1 now that it's deprecated?

af=lavfi=[acompressor]

I thought they abandoned that years ago in favour of MPC-HC + LAV Filters + xy-VSFilter + madVR

If they have truly started shilling for VLC and WMP I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

Thanks.

Who's this scatterbrained guy?

This. Very much this.

I use the vlevel LADSPA plugin with 1 second lookahead and audio-delay=-1

>2010 cell phone
Reminder that if your phone would look out of place on the first season of Friends then it is more botnet than it needs to be.

ahahahah, wow lolnothankyou

unbelievable

Ikr

That's the price of correct frame timing and accurate color.

My mpv install is stuttering when playing back some videos. it's a real mess sometimes.

anyone know why?

>no windows media player

@60101169
Kill yourself retarded whore or impersonator of retarded whore.
Sage.

Sweet wayland drama and shit-flinging between wm4 and compositor-writer SirCmpwn.

wm4 seems on a personal crusade against wayland stemming from his dislike of gnome.

?

>Holy shit, Sup Forums is currently shilling VLC and Windows Media Player for watching Anime.

mpv fags BTFO by weebs
you cant make this shit up

>shilling VLC and Windows Media Player
That is bait as old as time. It's on the same tier as recommending BNP as a good show to watch.

>I'm stupid enough to compare hardware decoding to software decoding

I've used so many over the years. I remember never wanting to watch videos on media player back in the XP days though. I seem to remember constant missing codecs for paid co tent. I think I ended up using DivX player. Then sometimes realplayer because the site had a bunch of 70mb animu in their format.

Later moved on to vlc and gom player since they were recommended on ninite. I haven't really made any changes since, so point me to whatever.

VLC and MPV were using DXVA2 copy-back. MPC-HC uses Cuda.

vlc too d;^)

jesus, mpv really is a meme, no wonder no one uses it.
MPV /pleasedontrunlikeshit mymovie.mp4

And on stock settings

Latest version of a single pass Adaptive Sharpen kinda broken for anyone else?

Not sure about non-upscaled videos, but I can see artifacts during some scene transitions or when end credits roll (white text on black background) the text gets all fuzzy. Can't post screens right now but if anyone else has it you would've noticed it as well.

2 pass AS still works fine. And single pass + SuperRes don't see to have artifacts but it's quite resource heavy.

Using lanczos sharp for scaling.

can mpv increase playback speed without changing the pitch of the audio

Is there a way to manually and on the fly increase the size of subtitles in mpv? Got some files where the subs are way too small.

yeah but VLC supports SAMBA. id rather not use a whole nother app just to SAMBA into my vids then go back and play them i the media player.

Occasionally when I watch certain streams it displays a frame that was played a couple of seconds ago again. I'm wondering if there is a way to save/record the stream so I can easily look back at what's happening, because I think the problem is with the stream. I've tried --cache-file and --record-file, but those just create an empty file. The stream link is an .m3u8 link, which is what I think makes those commands not work.

Pretty much this, most people are still using KCP, older illiterates CCCP, faggots QuickTime X and plebs/newfriends streaming on shitty sites
mpvfriends set their configs to name their screenshots like VLC and troll people that way

Yeah it doesn't matter. I was just making a joke how you had an audio setting under subtitles.

I have it and it works ok
I and some problems with it although I can't recall what is was
Navigating is also tiresome, mx player way of showing you the folders is way better

Yes
press [ and ]

They're still shilling Kawaii Codec Pack despite the fact that it hasn't been updated in yeras

is it me or does the mpv instance looks like it has better contrast ratio, especially in the dark regions?

>Sup Forums fell little girls' MPV filename trick
No wonder Sup Forums is still the best board. Stepping outside Sup Forums is like visiting the fall of Rome.

Animufags are less autistic than freetards.

Really makes you think, huh?

...

Wow thanks femanon for posting this pic everyone MPV is brought up!
And every time you do you always get shit down when anyone else posts their ram usage.

@60101169
Uninstalling mpv, fuck this ram hog shit.

What's his name again?

It does get updated, you just can't read.

Sorry for a silly question. For decoding 1080p videos, does my cpu (7700hq) support hwdec? Is it different for different formats? If it doesn't, should I just use my integrated GPU, or is it worth offloading to my discrete card (laptop).

MX Player was bought by Microsoft and collects your data now.

The paid version also has ads.

Yes, it support pretty much every format up to HEVC 10-bit and VP9 10-bit.

Wait r u srs?

MPC-HC+madVR+xysubfilter is better. No video watching enthusiast uses mpv.

Someone spoonfeed me a decent frame interpolation mpv config that looks better than SVP & MPC.

Sorry guys, I have a really retarded question. If I use an HDMI cable to mirror my 1080p laptop to a 4k screen, and play a 4k video in MPV, will it show as 4k on the screen? Do I need to use the monitor as a second display instead of mirroring?

why

it needs to be a second screen, mirror means they will get the same signal, they can't be different resolutions

I keep putting off tweaking the user config file, only ever glanced at the online reference manual for basic hotkeys. I'll copy one of the config files here to get a bit of a headstart instead of doing everything from scratch.

At most only configured mpv to run with youtube-dl and download english subtitles when browsing videos through SMtube.
Only do it because I use i3wm and sometimes want to watch youtube videos expanded in a tile with subs.

Is there a huge noticeable difference between stock MPV and configured?

Is this a question

Yes. I want to know why that MPC setup is better.

for anime assfilter mod is better
It's doesn't support any other subs format though.

madvR's picture quality is superior. xysubfilter subs also look better.

Yes.

Use either VLC or mpv.

>madvR's picture quality is superior.
What makes it better?

>xysubfilter subs also look better.
How is this even possible? Subs just render at desktop resolution. There's nothing inherently fancy about them.

It has all relevant high quality scaling algos, high quality debanding and anti ringing, high quality dithering. NGU just looks amazing.
>How is this even possible? Subs just render at desktop resolution. There's nothing inherently fancy about them.
Try it and compare.

>relevant high quality scaling algos
What does it have that mpv doesn't?

>high quality debanding and anti ringing, high quality dithering
These all exist in mpv.

>NGU
mpv has High-Res which is better

>Try it and compare.
I'm not on winblows. I want an actual explanation how the hell subtitles would magically look better.

whats the easiest and cleanest config for mpv?

>What does it have that mpv doesn't?
SSIM downscaling maybe? Also NGU.
>These all exist in mpv.
Different implementation. madVR's is better.
>mpv has High-Res which is better
You mean NNEDI3 and its not. NGU is better. Also mpv does not even support "High-Res" out of the box.
>I'm not on winblows. I want an actual explanation how the hell subtitles would magically look better.
Then compare mpv to VLC.

>SSIM downscaling maybe? Also NGU.
Even if that downscaler was better, it's not useful.

>Different implementation. madVR's is better.
How so?

>You mean NNEDI3 and its not. NGU is better. Also mpv does not even support "High-Res" out of the box.
NGU is a meme neural network scaler anyway which cause nasty wax artifacts everywhere. No thanks.

>Then compare mpv to VLC.
VLC uses libass too.

>Even if that downscaler was better, it's not useful.
What the fuck is that supposed to mean?
>How so?
It does its job better. Just compare it yourself.
>NGU is a meme neural network scaler anyway which cause nasty wax artifacts everywhere. No thanks.
High-Res is also neutral network scaler. And no NGU does not cause any of such artifacts. There are different versions of NGU available. NGU Sharp/Default looks great with high quality content while NGU Anti Alias looks great with low quality content.

>What the fuck is that supposed to mean?
In real use, you only upscale videos. You don't downscale them.

>It does its job better. Just compare it yourself.
How does it do it's job better? I'm not going to install windows just for a meme.

>High-Res is also neutral network scaler. And no NGU does not cause any of such artifacts. There are different versions of NGU available. NGU Sharp/Default looks great with high quality content while NGU Anti Alias looks great with low quality content.
It doesn't look good to me.

Installed mpv not long ago this is my config so far:

ao = alsa
audio-device = alsa/hw:CARD=Device,DEV=0
audio-exclusive = yes
audio-fallback-to-null = no

audio-normalize-downmix = no

####################
## Video
####################

profile = opengl-hq
scale = ewa_lanczossharp
video-sync = display-resample
blend-subtitles = yes

Any suggestions?

>In real use, you only upscale videos. You don't downscale them.
I double/quadruple content with NGU and then downscale it with SSIM2D for maximum quality gains.
>How does it do it's job better? I'm not going to install windows just for a meme.
Visually. If youre a linuxfag then why you even bother.
>It doesn't look good to me.
Too bad.

Is this good?

profile=opengl-hq
hwdec=auto-copy
scale=haasnsoft
cscale=ewa_lanczos
sigmoid-slope=10.0
video-sync=display-resample

>Any suggestions?
Use code tags next time.

I hate that watery looking shit.
Instead of having the distinctive pixel style for curves which isn't very distracting, it just looks like someone drew a really shitty curve.

>name their screenshots like VLC
Don't do this.

>mpvfriends set their configs to name their screenshots like VLC and troll people that way
It doesn't even match. VLC uses the computer clock time while mpv uses the video time.

I was looking for suggestions on the code but thanks bud :^)

To each their own. Keep in mind that this is pretty much a worst case scenario. It looks better on "real" content.

Yeah, try that pixel style in a 4K monitor buddy.
It will only get worse from now on.
