Is what they say true, is 4GB really not enough for some people?

Is what they say true, is 4GB really not enough for some people?

You obviously don't do anything productive on your machine if 4gb is enough to run your work load

Anything primarily text based would fit fine. Novelists, lawyers, medical file keeping, NAS systems, are none of those use cases "productive" to you? I assume by "productive" then you just mean video editing.

Gaming, watching anime and doing some random "look at me I'm a power user!" thing is not what I would call productive.

meme

>implying Microsoft Word and one tab open with Chrome doesn't use 5gb of RAM
TOP KEK

>ramlets making threads

I regularly used 6 to 8 doing nothing really
Having lots of tabs open and multiple programs running
maybe a movie/anime paused in mpc-hc
transmission always seeding

>1999
>Wtf why do you have 64mb of ram in your desktop, you only need 12 to play doom

>2017
>Wtf why do you need 8gbs of ram when you only need 4 to watch YouTube

>ramlets in charge of making threads
>he has an overclocked i3

i cold survive with 8 but 4 is just a little low, i never really max 16 out though

TOP KEK

That is the ugliest setup I've ever seen
Thank God it's not the windows 95 GUI days anymore

>ddr3
how do you even wait that long for your ram?

thats netscape 7 on win 10

I do academic journal reviews and 4GB isn't enough. Most large volume word processing needs 8GB (might be able to cheese it with 6gb)

Windows users need 12GB just to use chrome. Linux users only need 8 because the OS isn't a pile of shit.

4GB isn't enough for my mobage, let alone a desktop.

what phone do you use with 4gb of RAM lol

>using botnets and complaining when you get botnetted

>implying thats not 90% of the market share

LG V20

my phones got 6 and its a cheap chinese piece of shit

thats amazing itoddlers still have 1.5 gb of ram

lol what, do they actually only have 1.5 gb?

i work as a bench tech for a living
i wont recommend win10 to anyone without at least 8gb
and thats just for office and web browsing. if you do anything productive, 12-16GB is minimum
if you dont understand this, buy a chromebook for your web addiction and leave Sup Forums

Woah... So this is the power... Of Windows 10...

>when the web dev makes the ui

Yes

I do machine learning / probabilistic programming stuff on my pc, it has 32 gb of ram and sometimes it is not enough.

Its firefox with ten tabs open and various programs running in the background

>being a Ramlet

A Chromebook with Android app support is actually a good option for most Sup Forumsentoomen neets nowaday.
>mosh extension or Termux app for shell
>KC3Kai for botes
>4chanX
>MS Orifice Android apps
>Android games and the Android port of VLC or mpv for weebshittery
I just don't trust Google at all so I don't use Chrome on any platform.

less on some models

how do apple cucks justify this?

"muh just werkz"

>I like how apple organizes my photos for me

...

I had to upgrade my laptop from 4 to 8gb because I need to use VMs for some of my classes and ram was my bottleneck.

I have literally no idea where you got 1.5 gigs of ram
the iphone 6 was the last iphone with 1 gig of ram.
iphone 6s and up have 2
then the 7+ has 3
And with ios you don't need more, I've never had any problems with the 2 gigs of ram on my 6s+
no iphone/ipad has ever had 1.5 gigs of ram

Sure. And you have the choice of not being a part of that statistic.

I mean, i have 16gb for an athlon 5350
for the sole reason of filling both slots on my mobo

but i could get away with 4gb fine
i only got the 8gb stick because it was 3$ more

It also enters an inevitable bootloop and it's not really usable. Not to mention being involved in a class action lawsuit against LG.

i have a laptop with 6gb and sometimes it freezes for a few minutes while it tries to process W10 and chrome at the same time. it's not a deal breaker, but it's there

That article is aimed towards very light users, and people new to computer terminology-
parents who just do some emails and facebook crap.
Also not everyone is in a position to upgrade and get by on the 4gigs. Make the most of it etc.
I haven't got a beastly set up, it's modest but it still took a considerable amount of money and some people would rather spend their money on other things.

I currently have 24 gb. I can max that out pretty quick. only added the extra 8gb a month ago.

Plus if people run Linux they can get away with much less ram..

Show your processes then.

What the fuck makes it a RAM "kit"? When I buy a pair of socks, it's not called a kit.

No, the iPhone 7 has 2GB of RAM while the iPhone 7 Plus had 3GB of RAM.

It's amazing anyone did anything productive in the 90s and 2000s.

4gb is plenty if you don't have chrome open to look up documentation you probably already have in plain text/man/info on your system.

Work computer has 8gb ram, do data transformations on millions of rows. Computer frequently runs out of ram and uses swap for transformation pipeline.
Work has finally set up a small blade server for me. Sadly won't have all the ram for myself as it will be shared with the support team.
Yes there is real productive work that requires more than 4gb.

Even 16GB wouldn't be enough for me, so I can get behind this.

It doesn't, but when you have alot of RAM available, programs tend to fill more RAM.

>It also enters an inevitable bootloop and it's not really usable
You can use the LGUP tool from a Windows PC to forcibly flash it with the stock firmware, even if it's boot looping.

>4GB isn't enough

>WoW alone takes up 3.3GB
:^) I've been enjoying this last week of having 4GB of RAM I assure you.
