Every year the state of technology continues to regress

Every year the state of technology continues to regress to more primitive forms while increasing in complexity.

In the late 1990s we saw an explosion of interesting technology that could be used by the average man.
one man teams in the time frame of 1998 ~ 2005 where creating software left and right.

Starting in 2007 companies started to invest in (social media) aka state sponsored spying programs.
Forums started to die (honestly, most deserved it for putting control freaks in charge of moderation).

Sites that would allow users to edit their pages HTML turned off that feature.
Video games started to disallow their players from hosting their own game servers.

Search engines started to be targeted and forced to change their results.

Youtube allowed gameplay videos to be monetized, driving the creation of brain dead content for children.

Websites use click bait with impunity.

By 2015 it felt like the hacker/troll culture was dead because new users who come onto the internet are pulled into some social media site where they only communicate with people who are afraid of saying anything off color due to their name being associated with their account.

Google adjusted their comment system to favor comments from celebrities over other users.

2017 Websites, that pretended to be about free speech, start to openly censor content, the public is to stupid to care.

By 2020 the nightmare of the internet becoming day time TV will become real.

Nowhere is free of this. Find an archive of old Sup Forums and compare.

People who I grew up with who did not get into technology know less about technology now than they did back when we where children.

I knew a kid who would show off his ability to cheat at video games using Cheat Engine who know spends all day watching twitch and complaining about SJWs

The people are being socially engineered, there is no denying it.

Stupid fucking frogposter. Hurr what is nostalgia. Oh no, I grew up and started having to think properly, so everything I had when I was a teenager was perfect because I didn't have to think about it so we didn't have any of these problems right?

Literally take every single one of your gay reasons you wrote and you'll realize it was happening the entire time, you've only thought about it just now. Anyway, you really don't know what the fuck you're talking about, please kill yourself.

this isn't technology regressing. technology is moving forward very fast (e.g., self-driving cars). what you're complaining about is normalfags using the internet as much as the weird kids like yourself.

If this serves of any consolation, they're building this empire on top of moving sand.
And when gets profitable to kill it, someone will kill it.

smartphones where a mistake

First, I admit the pepe meme is getting stale, The only reason I used the meme was due to it being the only thing on hand that expressed the opinion of the thread.

Second, you seem to be projecting your experience onto me.

Please show me a technology, that is not a botnet that is popular among people. As mentioned above, my friends knew about bit torrent in 2006 when we where 13 years old.

I will admit, bit torrent was not valued for what it was, instead it was valued for its ability to provide you with games and movies

It's not the technology that's regressing. It's the shitty, useless people who design and maintain it.

Millennials are a fucking cancer.

are you fucking retarded?

>I'll just derail an interesting topic to complain about my favorite kind of mind numbing placation

you don't deserve your low life from of entertainment.

You speak about memes but when you use the word "botnet" you are completely falling for and repeating one. Problem here is that you go the creationist route of using something like "you can't prove it's not there". You can't win when you use that word because even if the hardware and software is free, you'd just say that the whole concept of free software and hardware is a ploy by "them" or whatever. This is why you can't argue with conspiracy dipshits because they just take the easy way out of saying your science and methods are impossible to use because they don't understand it.

The reason why this is so fucking stupid is because you're never going to actually get to go back to the "good ol days" you pine for because you never experienced them in the first place. I guarantee you if you were back on your "wild west" you'd fall apart in a couple days. Search engines were shit, GPS was shit, you had to spend hours in a library to do research, you had shit internet speeds, average entry level workstation was $3K, you couldn't buy web hosting for cheap like you can now. If you could actually go back and experience all that again for a day, you'd shut the fuck up, the problem is you can't and have to go on fake cancer nostalgia testimony where you only remember the good parts. Please stop posting dude.

Happy people don't change the world user.

>technology is moving forward very fast
It's moving faster than the average joe can keep up with, this is why companies are able to do so much unethical shit under everyone's noses

To be more specific, google will not end in a awesome cyber battle for the future that ends with a green text that says "Hacked by -Zerocool-", but by some sort of "Cheeky breeky google, pay 10 bitcoins or i will your everything", which will cause google to not pay, and the whole thing being erased via SQL injection in a google service nobody uses.

This is why we need a new internet free of normalfags. We need ValhallaNet. The barrier to entry will be those that run GNU/Linux only.

The internet is soul sucking cancer. I used to spend free time programming and other somewhat productive stuff. Now I waste my free time posting shit no one cares about on websites like this. It's more immediate and rewarding in the short term. I've seen it happen to other people too.

I'm setting up a computer right now without internet access and I'm going to force myself to use that whenever possible. You'll never hear this advice though because the people who succeed in getting away from it don't post here of course.

There was kind of a period in between where broadband was becoming affordable and search engines were finally realizing their potential but "social media" sites were still personal profile focused and looked at something for teen girls or lonely fucks looking for dates not the general communication platform for everyone has to use for everything. Where the content you would find on entertainment sites was weird and unpredictable, and clearly the vision of one artistic and/or sick fuck individual compared to the much more calculated, produced stuff people do today. I'm old enough to remember when you had to spend a couple grand to get a solid machine and loading a single image was something that gave you a chance for a coffee break, but to totally dismiss OP's pining for more experimental days isn't fair.

Yeah. I'm glad somebody's noticing the same as me. Did anybody else notice internet porn reached a peak in quality around 2004-2007? Since then it has just progressively been worse and worse. Most of the things on top of TGP on categories like "gagging" etc are stuff from 2004. Max Hardcore's stuff is old enough that the girls he fucked in their early movies are teaching their grandchildren about boys and girls and he is still on top on many galleries. Molly Rome is 38 years old.

Interestingly enough, that is almost the same year that Moore's law stopped working for processor clock speed, forcing us to make many-cores processors and the developers to write parallel apps.

extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/CPU-Scaling.jpg

Processors used to be faster all my life but they have been stuck around 1.6 -3 GHz for decades now. Since everybody has always said that porn is what drives development of internet it's interesting to see good quality porn started fading of the time processors couldn't be built faster.

On your point of technology being more and more complex, but at the same time more and more restricted I agree. Three times this moths I've had a situation where I can only access google sites (google.com, Youtube) every other page says you're not connected to the internet. This is actually a problem more and more people are experiencing it as you can google and see forum posts about it. I view this as the first steps towards an internet where only certain domains are allowed to be access, and nobody can write their own HTML page anymore, but just uploads it to google/facebook/whoevers platform.

>I'm setting up a computer right now without internet access

g-good luck user

It can't all be nostalgia and projection. There are concrete things.

Remember "Never, ever tell anyone your real name or post a real photograph of yourself online"?

>Remember "Never, ever tell anyone your real name or post a real photograph of yourself online"?
I 'member

Yes, I've also thought about this. One very big mistake was adding a camera in every single phone. Turns out the average person does not have the maturity to handle it.

I am at least old enough to remember you could go to a party, let loose and not worry about the pictures being all over the social networks the next day. They also just make people not talk on trains.

If we had only had terminals at our homes, connected to the internet, where we collected our thoughts during the day and then went home, instead of when we are bored on the subway, a lot of the content on internet would be a lot better.

The Zuck ruined the internet.

I had Sup Forums and a lot of other time wasting sites blocked for a while using a firefox extension called "block site".

I recommend this book

>Remember "Never, ever tell anyone your real name or post a real photograph of yourself online"?
Something that only started in the mid-late 90s and only applied to children? The whole le ananamoose thing was only ever a product of the web, and the advice was for children. An adult that only used a handle was generally considered to be immature.

>he used his real name on the internet
lol@u

It was for everyone because you honestly don't know who is crazy enough to track you down.

Post your real name right now if you honestly believe that giving out your real name has zero affect on you or your ability to express opinion or be associated with certain communities

>and the advice was for children

Nope it was for everyone and it was good advice. Even Google spread the message before Facebook and then Google+ was introduced which changed their attitude.

Joe Montgomery
Have you never published any sort of work on the web? You're going to have to attach your real name to the license.

meant for

No it wasn't, an adult would have to use their real name. They might have a handle which they primarily use, but if you wanted to do anything more serious than flaming on a forum on the web you would have to shed your anonymity to be taken seriously. It's really not that scary, only children raised in the late 90s/early 2000s have this fear ingrained in them. You'll notice that oldfags have no problem posting under their real names and often actively avoid using handles, the whole anonymous culture is almost exclusively a thing with people under the age of 30.

In the beginning on youtube, very few people would post with their face shown or their real name.

I post under my real name when I'm actually doing work that does not offend anyone. I don't think I will have my life ruined if someone finds out that I maintain servers all day. I will have my life ruined if people find out that I post on an anime image board with you fucks.

The world basically sucks now. There is no privacy anymore. People post so much identifying shit on there facebook pages for all there "100000 friends"
to see that I'd be scared of one of those so called "friends" stole my identity or hacked me vs the government shit holes or rouge hackers from china. That's why I don't got facebook. Also yeah I remember parties and shit where people had a good ass time and not see a phone or camera anywhere (unless you count the landline phone on the side table). Now you can't even cross a street without the chance there's a pic of you doing it floating around somewhere. Face it, privacy is dead. Porn quality sucks now to, only good thing is that it's easier to find.

>the whole anonymous culture is almost exclusively a thing with people under the age of 30
This sums up how wrong your perception is. It has nothing to do with "anonymous culture". I don't think you know what the hell we're talking about. Of course if you have published work or use a work email your real name was used. The advice to not reveal your real identity applied to the early chat clients and proto-social networks although it was not enforced - you could use your real identity if you so desired. Some "oldfag" you are.
