Unoptimized, yes. This is by the way the manufactures fault.
Shitfest, no. Don't forget that Android runs on almost anything with a clock.

Apple has the privilege of designing both hard- and software. This makes optimizing a lot easier because all iOS devices ever made fit on a (large) desk. Android has to work on 100+ devices every year.

iOS works with less resources this way. +1 for Apple. This is where the success stops however since it's a closed source dumbed down facebook remote and a disgrace for human intelligence.

Also, most Android devices are in the low segment ($100-200) so looking at a random Android device will probably suck. Your GUI will never run smooth on a 800 Mhz single core ARM. The high end devices, as demonstrated in many videos, are at least as snappy, if not snappier then the newest, toppest of notch iPhone.

You're deluding yourself.

I switched to an iPhone 7 recently and the number one biggest thing I miss is being able to set default applications. On iOS when you click a URL you will always open it in Safari. When you click a mailto: URL you will always open it in the default mail app. iMessage will always be the default message app.

It's even more frustrating if you use site-specific apps too. Whenever I click a reddit URL on my Android device, it opens in my reddit app. On iOS it opens in Safari and I have to use the shitty mobile site, or have it open in safari and then do an additional step to share the URL with the reddit app to get what I wanted in the first place.

It is insanely inconvenient to use anything but the default applications on iOS, and if iOS doesn't have one you have to resort to wonky workarounds to get behavior that's standard on literally every other OS in the world.
