its not, its still a good song, but its just basically late 80s alternative with a slightly newer presentation. Also think about this, how could a song from 91' define the entire decade?

I was actually alive in the 90's, it sounded more like this than Nirvana

THIS

First half -- Smells Like Teen Spirit

You have to split the decade in two tbqh

It's from the decade, what more do you want?

Smells Like Teen Spirit and Spice Girls Wannabe

Live Forever
Wonderwall
Bittersweet Symphony
Creep

Yeah but it's not a song that would have ever come out in the 80s. Are only songs from '99 eligible or something? Any time there is a "best of the 90s" countdown on some mainstream tv station or radio station Smells Like Teen Spirit is rarely anything but number 1. There is a reason for this.

Semi Charmed Life

Paranoid Android
Smells Like Teen Spirit
Creep
Cut your Hair

if anything, something that explosive and different at the beginning of the decade would undoubtedly come to define the decade

trying to figure out which song to post, and I just want to cry since I'm 33 and realize my heart is still in the 90's, just like those burnouts that never leave the 60's

it's a nightmare kids. kill yourselves now

the one true quintessential 90s song

>Bittersweet Symphony
Ew. But you're right.

again I think its a great song and influential of the time and received a lot of attention, but I dont think it defines the 90s.

this song is pretty fucking 90's

you can tell 9/11 hadn't happened when you hear that guitar riff

kinda happy, kinda sad

also on the soundtrack to singles which is like the 90'sest movie
