best composer from my country??

i got this
youtube.com/watch?v=QZM4yxbE0ZE

Reminder that the piano existed in Bach's lifetime.
Reminder that piano is better than harpsichord.
Reminder that "historical accuracy" shouldn't be a goal or even necessarily desirable.

I don't know if I'd say Griffes is the best American composer, but this is one of my favorite pieces, it's very Respighi-esque

youtube.com/watch?v=UBFpEpJc7PU

Reminder that voting for Russia is a sign of plebness

I can't vote Italy because I love early music too much, so I had to vote for Russia

Russia came late to the party and never caught back up.

Medieval is G*rmany and Renaissance is France though. Vote Shitaly

U N D E R R A T E

France wins France wins France wins
Germany and Russia are fighting for second place

who'd say germany would be the least hated country on /classical/

>early music
>good

nothing pre-Bach matters in the slightest

Terrible taste.

...

>Renaissance is France
What is this meme?

>bogposter falseflagging as Bachfags and replying to himself
Sad.

Palestrina really saves Italy, I think
and sometimes I just can't help but get in the mood for some of that high renaissance dance music from Italy

he has a point, it's pretty hard to beat composers like Desprez and Costeley

how about we do this by era
First up is the Renaissance
actually who gives a shit

Next we have Baroque
our biggest contenders are Germany and Italy

Next up we've got Classical
this one's between Germany, Austria maybe Italy

next up is Romantic
This ones quite diverse. Your choices are: Polish, Hungarian, German, Russian, Austrian, French, Italian, Czech, Belgium, uhh swiss?

>pretty hard to beat composers like Desprez and Costeley
Palestrina and Monteverdi

goodbye

See you tomorrow

sleep tight

I love it, I hadn't heard that in ages
Did you ever listen to the folk music arranged by Williams? It's pretty hard to find, but the Deller Consort sung some of it
youtube.com/watch?v=ZzC9MrZ_t_0

>Medieval
France.
>Renaissance
I can't keep the Franco-Flemish school composers straight and I don't want to call the wraith of Renaissanceanon. I'll just say Italy.
>Baroque
Germany or Italy
>Classical
Germany or Austria
>Romantic
Germany or France
>20th century
Austria? France? Hard one.The U.S. was starting to show it's worth too with Crawford Seeger and Ives.
>21st century
U.S.

>Ives
>Crawford Seeger
fucking kill yourself

Does the growth projection of late Schubert scare anyone else? Seems the highest acceleration in the late 20s of any big composer. Death chasing?

Literally the only composer from Russia worth saving, and he was practically French at some point.

I've sung a lot of it, recorded a CD with all of his Scottish folk song settings and few of the English ones. I've been thinking about learning the East Anglia folksongs for future performance too since I think they're quite lovely.

The EMI 30CD box set VW collection has about 40 tracks of folk songs (both those for choir and solo voice) if you're looking for more recordings. Although they are more 'refined' and choral than the earthy style in the link you gave.

pleb.

>bought into the 12 tone meme
>worth saving

Any serialist besides Schoenberg is a hack

>Crawford Seeger
>Ives
>Serialists

>Crawford Seeger’s reputation as a composer chiefly rests on her New York compositions written between 1930 and 1933, which are concerned with dissonant counterpoint and American serial techniques. She was one of the first composers to extend serial processes to musical elements other than pitch, and to develop formal plans based on serial operations (Tick 2001). Her technique may have been influenced by the music of Schoenberg, although they met only briefly during her studies in Germany.
You're right about Ives though. He's just edgy

I'm absolutely looking for more recordings, I'll take anything you can recommend about Vaughan Williams be it books or recordings. I think his music is some of the most beautiful I've ever heard
Is the CD you recorded available online?

St Salvator's or St John's?

>using Grove when it says shes a modernist in the 2nd sentence of the article

For those who haven't voted:

France is being considered the least shitty place for music. Germany, shittier than France.

Do you agree? Vote!

Salvator's

>tfw you weren't there for the publicity photos so you're not on the cover

Alistair McAlpine's Lament is probably my favourite VW on there, followed by Loch Lomond

team Finland
youtube.com/watch?v=EKzWefr7_C0
Rautavaara and Sibelius together are better than anything from another nation

I hadn't heard McAlpine's Lament before, it's beautiful
and Loch Lomond was always one of my favorite VW too

this is an excellent album, well done user, and thank you for the recommendations

Joly Braga Santos. Portuguese.
After WWII he went abroad an studied conducting with Herman Scherchen, Antonio Votto and composition with Virgilio Mortari

This symphony was composed in 1950

help a pleb.

what is it about classical that sounds denser than (the majority of) pop music? i get this impression even in simpler pieces

>What the fuck is this shit?
>post a way more shit chart
WEW

i fall too in this jewish trick.
apparently Monteverdi music belong to "a so called" music renaissance due to the seconda pratica born, the melodramma born, the dissolution of franco-flemish counterpoint...
don't mind them, they are just retarded. if Monteverdi is renaissance as Prokofiev is late romantic

petzold

Hey, i just posted it in a sharethread, but I unearthed this really rare CD from my Julliard and i have no idea who the composer is. Does anyone know?

give it a listen though, it's really good

>people will actually defend music around the 20th century

Absolutely disgusting.

best composer of your country?
that would be me

Well it is Canada
sorry vivier

is it super wrong to post ones own music in this thread?

more like cuckold amirite

fuck off and apologize

Not bad, honestly. I feel like same with most composers during his time though, they were so restricted melodically that most of it just gets so boring after the first couple of listens. Thank the Gods for harmony..

Ooo i got this

terribly sorry, old chum

we are so good at this

>Not bad, honestly. I feel like same with most composers during his time though, they were so restricted melodically that most of it just gets so boring after the first couple of listens. Thank the Gods for harmony..

lads please tell me i'm not alone in thinking that Gorecki's third symphony is a fucking meme

it's not that good

>le epic techno man

Gorecki and Arvo Part are the biggest memers of our time.

youtube.com/watch?v=JpfbDLFSZb4

???

because every note is used to progress the music, each one has weight for the song, pop music has much more focus on the content of the lyrics, and radio pop music's lyics are generic so it fits as large a crowd as possible to let them assign their own meaning to it

>hey guys GUYS
>guess what
