Games with strong soundtracks. Hey Sup Forums, we all know that majority of videogames with "great" soundtracks tend to be pretty terrible so I was wondering what soundtracks manage to transcend past that notion.
I think this Ecco the Dolphin soundtrack is pretty decent considering but I'd be interested in seeing how elaborate/interesting video game music can actually become:
It's mostly these anime games with boring ass exaggerated soundtracks that aren't actually that great to listen to on their own.
This example of OST you've used is a piece of meeting peoples expectations and showcasing vidya technology evolving onto CD based platforms. Ecco is much better on cartridge though fuck you.

Any recommendations? I'm genuinely fascinated at the thought of finding a videogame soundtrack that matches the strengths of a really good album.

Have you got a download link for that?

Thanks for the bump, I don't think this thread is going to generate much traction.
Bought the game solely for the OST experience. And man 65DOS delivered [spoiler] as they always do [/spoiler0

Some examples from my vidya list I think fit your criteria. Though a lot of stuff I rated highly works better in game and not so much as a sit down and listen to it for 60 minutes.
Correct. Pretty much every old SEGA game has an amazing soundtrack desu.
Carson Ramirez
can you read?
Leo Richardson
No good soundtracks listed yet. It appears to be up to me again.
Levi Sullivan
Thanks for the lengthy contribution. I'll give this stuff a listen - Streets of Rage is definitely a strong contender; I'd forgotten how visceral and thumpin' some of those tracks are.

Np here is the rest of the list if you are bored enough:
This is a really comprehensive list - I respect that you've even dissected a bunch of Sega Saturn games. I'll probably sift through some of the more acclaimed items on your list... this will certainly sate my curiosity to some extent.

The half life games OSTs are fantastic and can stand alone from the game. It's reminiscent of Select Ambient Works II and other idm projects Also it may not be what you are looking for but Jet Set Radio and JSR Future are perhaps the only OSTs I listen to
Jason Lee
Sadly I never owned a Saturn so I only played a few games at other kids houses. It was a pretty cool overlooked system.

ay this bomberman crankin rn

I've never even played Neo-Tokyo and I listen to this album all the time
Cooper Gomez
The soundtracks for the Panzer Dragoon games are amazing. The first one and Saga especially.
Christian Hill
>I've never even played Neo-Tokyo It's mediocre. No wonder it's been overshadowed by its OST
Noah Robinson
Red Dead Redemption Silent Hill 2 are my 2 favourites
Kayden Thomas
Amazing OST for these games. I long for a new title.
