He's a functional player that never steps outside his role. He's fine, but nowhere near great. The band wouldn't have become something that different if he left, unlike Frusciante where the band scrambled to maintain their identity because their most talented member jumped ship.

but in all seriousness, some old school hip hop generally have good slow breaks/ drum loops that are simple and will show you variation in placement of snares/kicks in a phrase.
