Name 10 must-know jazz standards for guitar

>nonplebmode no Autumn leaves

In my city, I find the these tunes get called pretty frequently at jam sessions:

Cantaloupe Island
Red Clay
The Chicken
Footprints
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
So What?

Billy's Bounce

anyone know 10?

Careless Whisper
Wham! Rap
Club Tropicana
Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go
Last Christmas
Faith
Freedom
Everything She Wants
I'm Your Man
Where Did Your Heart Go

are these actually called often?

Blue Bossa
Donna Lee
Black Orpheus
Misty
In A Sentimental Mood
Polka Dots and Moonbeams
On Green Dolphin Street
My Favorite Things
Round Midnight
Dolphin Dance (debatable)

lot of these have been covered by the top shelf guitarists (Wes, Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Pat Martino, etc.)

???
never saw any of these tunes come up when i used to attend cutting sessions

thats what I was thinking

Giant Steps :^)

This is a good list

I would also add All The Things You Are

ebin

>falling for the most obvious b8 ever

>tfw you fell for the b8 that they fell for the b8

any more?

>expecting Sup Forums to know jazz standards

there are tons dude. part of being a player is being a listener, and seeing what tunes are widely recorded. Some more:

Caravan
A Night In Tunisia
Cherokee
Anthropology
All Blues
Blue Trane
Here's that Rainy Day (definite fave of mine)
Nardis (another fave)

Yes or No
But Not For Me
There Will Never Be Another You
There Is no Greater Love
September in The Rain

There are endless standards to learn

nice

bump

It varies quite a bit city to city and scene to scene but I'd say besides blues heads and rhythm changes 10 of the most common are:

All the Things You Are
Autumn Leaves
Blue Bossa
There Will Never Be Another You
Footprints
There Is No Greater Love
Stella by Starlight
Cantaloupe Island
Four
Have You Met Miss Jones

>acting superior yet not actually posting any standards

sounds about right

where u at jtg?

Some of my favorites out of RB1:
Darn That Dream
Speak No Evil
Nefertiti
Mood Indigo
Round Midnight

hes right there

"Red Clay" is jam city

tis a good one

I don't like to get too specific about my location but I've played at jam sessions in a lot of different cities. That list fits the scene for cities like Philly, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Columbus. Those are the main cities where I've had most of my jamming experiences. I'm on the other side of the country now and things are a bit different here.

not really a standard but Four Winds by Dave Holland is p my favorite chart ever

Jazz pleb here. The only one on that list I recognised by name was So What?. I recognised Cantaloupe Island by ear though.

Those were all great. I should hang around in jazz threads more often.

I'll check it out

I took every song title in this thread and saved it to a text file. Listening through them now, thanks guys.
