Can't help but feel like this is some kind of projection of human ego. I started researching this out of morbid curiosity, like watching a serial killer's family films.
I'm beginning to think this is the more rational and reptile of the mind wanting to torture and destroy all the soft and cuddly instincts that human beings have in some helpless effort to ease the pain of the viewing organism in question.
More or less the human mind mistaking these traits for being the cause of their suffering in one way or another. So a collective of people has basically created a figure to attach these features to and "destroy" via art.
