Good suggestions.
Sup Forums singing is definitely depressing, I think I'll play one of the Sup Forums sings songs at my funeral.

I think a lot of sad music is cheesy, but Coil really hit hard with this one
Leonard Cohen's entire discography
While technically a piece, Beethoven's Cavatina.
youtube.com
"The first violin is somehow overcome, no longer singing, no longer even able to connect one note to another, voiceless yet desperate to give voice. The line cannot find tears with which to cry, it gropes for language where there is none. Within the world of Op. 130 and its investigation of the limits of musical language and form this is the moment of revelation. The movement which is to sing loses its capacity to do so, or cannot find the inspiration to support it. Exquisite paradox: Music is inadequate to express what pleads to be expressed; this failure is flawlessly expressed by music. The Cavatina has an ending, one in which the idea of a fundamental vibration-pulsation meets the initial stammer of the movement and offers uneasy consolation, but there is little stable comfort to be had here. The fissure between depth of feeling and language too feeble to hold it in its entirety is too great for that."
Giles Corey is pretty depressing.
fuck off

I don't listen to whole lot of depressing stuff
Black - Pearl Jam
For No One - Beatles
Hey Joe - Daniel Johnston
Only songs I've ever cried to

triumph / s.p.q.r.

Heavens forbid something have elevated diction. Go listen to your breakup music you spineless cuck.
radiohead - bullet proof
>probably the most emo-ass song ever made but it still hurts like a bitch
frank ocean - white ferrari

Andrew Jackson Jihad - This Is Why I'm Hot
fuck off
Having a hard time deciphering this reaction
...
you're not the same guy who was saying meth is good for you on /sci/ are you
it is to mean that the replied person to whom the reply is forwarded is in fact a massive pleb
It means that Pearl Jam fucking sucks and he should be ashamed about crying to that pathetic tasteless song.
that time Sup Forums sung Oblivion by Grimes.
Oh. Well fuck the replier. It's a musically/lyrically interesting and powerful song.
It is. That that melody was successful baffles me.
Nope. Sounds like a cool guy.

One of the more depressing songs of the power electronics era
Hole in the heart - Ramleh
>Hole in the heart
only power electronics album worth listening to
I'm judging you more for listing song titles before the bands, my cynical side says it means you only listen to singles and only stream music.
carissa's wierd, any song really

Joy Division - Atmosphere
Pearl Jam - Black
Johnny Cash (or NiN) - Hurt
Honestly almost everything by Joy Division is pretty depressing in it's own way.
Especially this one though

Pure suicidal depression
why do the birds sing

Moody good-Euology to the caretaker.
It's atmosphere is amazing
Boards of Canada - Tears From The Compound Eyes is pretty devastating
youtu.be
The whole of Winterreise is depressing, but the last song most of all
FOR I AM AN ENGINE AND I'M ROLLING ON
The Smiths- I know it's over
an emotionally wrecking piece of art that song is.
>hurrrrr it doesn't have words i don't get it
youtube.com
I hate myself - to a husband at war
youtube.com
The Mountain Goats - The Mess Inside
going up is great but triple sun hits hard for me
this is a beautiful closer to a 10/10 album but I'll say that after finding out where the sample is from took away a bit of the seriousness to it
if you don't know what the sample is from then don't bother
Nah, couldn't be more wrong. Didn't realize the order mattered
pic is a new couple, they were snowed in and didn't have anything else ready for Christmas so they made due with that shit
so it's not as sad as it looks
salviapalth.bandcamp.com
this album gets me every time
honestly any song on it is depressing as fuck so have a go OP
Dance While The Music Still Goes On, ABBA.
youtube.com
>Sometimes all I really want to feel is love
>Sometimes I'm angry that I feel so angry
Pretty much anything from this album. I dig Katatonia in general but Tonight's Decision is its own brand of hell compared to the others.
youtube.com
can someone admire how sad this one is with me? I feel like it's overlooked and that's also sad
recently got my heart broken again
Keaton Henson - Nests
The Middle East - Deep Water
James Blake - Lindisfarne
>even considering a cover by a dirty old man to be superior to the original
>Johnny Cash (NiN)
>not the other way around
Lol do you find new music through Pandora or something?
His mother was on American Airlines Flight 11.
Too bad it's in french but this song is crushingly depressing.
I don't even like this band but god damn...
A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers is quite a ride when you're depressed.
what's that
Bathory - Enter The Eternal Fire
this is the most depressing sin ITT, not because its sad, but because its so depressingly bad i wanna kill myself
>"There's a heaven and there's a star for you"
fug
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt, the Johnny Cash version is also pretty soul crushing.
Alice in Cains - Down In a Hole
Beck - "Lonesome Tears"
youtube.com
Harvey Danger - "The Show Must Not Go On"
youtube.com
Brand New - "Jesus Christ"
youtube.com
Erik Satie has some really depressing pieces.
youtube.com
"True Love Waits" by Radiohead also is a depressing song. But everybody knows this one.
Red House Painters - 24

a lot of cheesy bullshit in this thread. I know it's over is a great song but it's just about feeling unloved for fuck's sake, there's much worse.

Mineral - EndSerenading

Mineral - The Power of Failing
here's some electronic recs to cry to
Stumbleine - Thawn: winter feels. this and the whole Infinite Overcast album is beautiful. See if you recognise the brilliantly manupiulated vocal sample of a popular song in the track. Also sounds like American Football, but electronic, towards the end
Massive Attack vs. Burial - Paradise Circus: my favourite piece of music. this tune has an enveloping emotion to it that slowly reveals itself. listen throughout and you will be rewarded.
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt: Well, kinda electronic. Best representation of suicide in a track I've ever heard. Just as the singer wonders if he can "start again" and realises that he could "make it work" at the last minute before death, massive distorted guitars completely muffle the lyric, representing the moment of death. The dissonance and fuckiness of the track also symbolises to me the incomplete this man's life was - that his suicide was unnecessary and a shame.
Jon Hopkins - Open Eye Signal (Asleep Version): ambient version of the revolutionary progressive tech house track. Listen to the end and you'll be hear the most emotional piano sequence ever.
Burial - In McDonalds: ambient. just let the soundscape and the title do the work. Imagine yourself sitting alone, in McDonalds on a rainy night. The music is your thoughts.
Asa - Leave The Light On: I see this track as a reflection on childhood, even though it's got samples from the UK series Skins scattered through it. Still can't really work out what Asa was thinking when he made this. Just fucking sublime electronic and I've never heard anything like it before. watch out for his new album in 2017 guys.
that was really good, from the late night train gives me serious feels I can't even describe.
:(

this x6000000
I've never heard the song but it's like I've imagined or felt it a hundred times before, :')
I couldn't agree more
Nick Cave - O' Children
youtube.com
I think the most depressing song by AIC is the Unplugged performance of Sludge Factory. Layne screwing up the lyrics really reveals how bad his mental state was at the time.
My pick is the album How It Feels to be Something On by Sunny Day Real Estate. Something about the tone of the guitar and the bass, Enigk's lyrics and vocal delivery, and the drawn back, melancholy songwriting tugs at my heartstrings like no other album can

>We walked down the hill, I feel the coming on of the fading sun
>And I know for sure that you'll never be the one
>It's the forbidden moment that we live that fires our sad escape
>And holds passion more than words can say
this gets me every time, my personal SOTYEY
Now I just want to talk about train feels, whole thread derailed
Love in Vain
