me. i am. i am new jork.

People like you hurt me

new york is a state in the united states of america.
one of the original colonies, i believe

There is no new Bjork.
There's one (1) Bjork and that's that. No new. No old. Just Bjork.

Björk.

It's still Bjork.

GRIMES, obviously

mitski

fka twigs

I've listened to 2 grimes albums.
I didn't dislike the albums.
But the sure as hell didn't sound like Bjork, I honestly do not get the comparison.

In before the big copy and pasted list of vague comparisons that could be made to many artists.

its just a meme, grimes "fans" just enjoy being obnoxious

This

What about this?

Common things between Grimes & Bjork:
>weird voices
>quirky, playful personalities
>strange fashion sense
>interesting live shows
>acclaimed electronic music
>dedicated fanbase
>obscure albums before the proper breakthrough albums (Grimes has Geidi Primes & Halfaxa, Bjork has S/T album from 1977)
>eclectic music taste.

U mad?

and there it is

Okay only ONE of those applied to the actual music itself, which is what I was referring to

and 'acclaimed electronic music' could apply to 100 albums.

Those are just undeniable facts.

>weird voices
Grimes' voice isn't half as peculiar as Björk voice is
>interesting live shows
Not a fan of any them in that
>dedicated fanbase
A lot of artists have one
>eclectic music taste.
Not half as much as Björk
>strange fashion sense
But Björk looks good, Grimes looks like shit
>acclaimed electronic music
More than one (two) artist have "acclaimed electronic music"

>quirky, playful personalities
Can't be sure on this one, so let's say yes.

Anyway, you forgot the important thing, have as much talent as Björk.

Oh, and why is people asking for a new Björk? That's as stupid as asking for a new Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Mad that you're so predictable? Nah.

>weird voices
debatable, but grimes' voice isn't that wierd
>quirky, playful personalities
doesn't affect the music
>strange fashion sense
doesn't affect the music
>interesting live shows
fine, but not really that unique or related
>acclaimed electronic music
not unique and totally unspecific. like the other guy said, applies to hunderds of artists
>dedicated fanbase
not unique
>obscure albums before the proper breakthrough albums (Grimes has Geidi Primes & Halfaxa, Bjork has S/T album from 1977)
not unique
>eclectic music taste.
not unique

off the top of my head, this stuff all applies to Jaime stewart, im sure there are plenty of others that fit this exact discription

>Oh, and why is people asking for a new Björk? That's as stupid as asking for a new Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

exactly, bjork is still here and making good music

This is Ben, we call him byorn

this is so embarrassing to read every single time

It's about all of them applied at once. Not cherrypicking what you like. All of them. Now, name someone else that would fit.

I can't wait for Bjork's official opinion about Grimes. Hopefully that would silence the Grimes haters.

Joanna Newsom already said 3 times that she likes her.

what would really silence the grimes haters is if the grimes fanboys stopped spamming her

I don't think it would. Bjork has her own opinions. Bjork likes Beyonce but I don't and I'm okay with that.

It's not 'cherrypicking' I'm flat out telling you that from the first comment I am ONLY talking about their music similarities. Not live performances, fanbases, or anything else.

Once you have more points about how the actual music styles are similar I'd be glad to discuss it.

Still Björk

Sarah Midori Perry

Jonna Lee. She's a new Gaga also.

Being exactly like somebody before you doesn't make you the new version of them.
You have to play the same role in culture as they did.
For example the next Marylin Manson can't be exactly like him because his politics and image are widely accepted now, they have to play the same role as him but adjusted to today's standards.

Oh, the cringe!

This, honestly. There will always be only one Björk, and she is still making amazing music anyways

Yung Lean

Not exactly like her, but quite similar. At least to play a similar role (the queen of synth based art pop).
