I'm a huge fan of this album (not an 0pn fanboi though), can we build a chart with albums of similar sound/style?

que?
the synths on this album are so strange. they make me feel weird, like some uncanny valley shit. i can't put it into words very well.
ryuichi sakamoto
russian guy still a blur
claude something
Russian guy is probs Mikhail Chekalin.
isn't that album vaporwave
Yep, that's what I'm seeking as well. There's still few records that meets these criteria.
Sakamoto discog is huge as fuck. Which period should I look into?
I've found a couple of things so far, like Gora Sou and Bataille Solaire, but still not enough.
Yesterdays BNM on Pitchfork has A LOT of similarities with this. I'm about to sit down an listen to it now.
TERRY RILEY
It does incorporate muzak and other canned sounds but it's technically much more varied than the majority of vaporwave out there.
Thousand Knives'

claude larson has a song called yellow invasion that sounds exactly like boring angel
you got a link?
Thoughts on what else to add?
Also trying to remember the name of a certain album OPN mentioned was an influence, the cover featured a guy covered in gray paint I think. Anyone have any ideas?
Wow I just listened to bits and snippets of this album for the first time
Are you all memeing me or something? Sounds like a shittier version of mid-to-late 80s ambient or like unfinished, demo versions of 90s ambient dub. Just listen to Biosphere or TFSOL
That new visible cloaks album is quite peculiar. It starts off SO SLOW but does open up a couple tracks in. It's like if Lopatin kept making more ambient work like Returnal era shit
>what else to add
throw out autechre and v. delay, they don't make sense here.
Radio Jiro is cool, it's sort of a pity the guy doesn't release his own stuff for some reason.
0pn is 100% meme
I think is up to something. Add Substrata or 76:14
my suggestion
Nah, people say that because of the origin of the samples, but the style itself is very different.
I have only heard ARICA and the concert with Don Cherry. Neither felt similar. Any specific suggestions regarding albums?
Actually
>Sounds like a thoroughly revised and improved version of mid-to-late 80s
This is called evolution of pop music.
more like de-evolution
>revised and improved
According to your weakass ears. I bet you're a revivalist, the worst scum to plague music regardless of epoch and style.

Thanks for sharing?
OPN is a HACK
>Any specific suggestions regarding albums?
A Rainbow In Curved Air
But I just said that it didn't feel similar.
try In C then
Pic related, and probably the Akira soundtrack? Like cheesy Eastern sounds that are actually amazing.
>That new age bullshit
>compared to r+7 AND Symphonic Suite Akira
and yet they take you through every human emotion too
well... yeah...
I disagree with this comparition too (as the intentionality is so different) but there is no need to defend that, since I clearly said r+7, not OPN in general.
They gave Visible Cloaks BNM?
Wow, fair play I guess, was honestly expecting a 6-7 from them, it's probably going to be my AOTY for those Dip In The Pool and Motion Graphics features alone
But yes, they are similar, both use the same Omnisphere choir soundfiles
0comeups debut EP on Purple Tape Pedigree uses a lot of the same samples too
You should check out Motion Graphics album from last year and Lifited's album from 2015 (a supergroup featuring Motion Graphics, Co La and Max D)
And of course Human Story 3 from last year too
And Holly Herndon's Platform
Paul Lanksy was obviously a huge influence on R+7
OPN samples Mark Isham's Many Chinas on Zebra
y'all niggas are missing out big time. take notice.
add artist and album names pls
They're mostly Omnisphere presets.
Try Yasuaki Shimizu - Music for Commercials
Also Haruomi Hosono
>Omnisphere
is it a vsti or what?
Yes, Omnisphere is a VST. It's a massive sound library of semi-realistic instrumentation as well as synthetics, percussion, simulated vocals, etc. He also used some program I can't recall the name of right now that was actually a text to speech program and incorporated melody into it.
Here's a demonstration of Omnisphere.
Here's a better demo actually...
this should be included.
Cool, thanks
Jon Hassell - Aka / Darbari / Java: more 1980's newage/ambient

0comeups is really fun, sounds like a straight rip off in some moments but it's still quite good regardless.

anyone have a mega link?

you might as well go to the source: Mark Mothersbaugh

jeeesus, dat 0comeups shilling..
OPN has said that this was an inspiration.
youtube.com
Here is something that sounds like Rifts took inspiration from.

It fucking is though you retarded pleb
>shilling
there's nothing very similiar, hence all the people praising how unique it is
mark mothersbaugh's solo album kinda
youtube.com
plus lots of video game music
have you not read anything in thread? also, nobody is praising him for being completely unique.
It's on slsk, but I can upload to zippy if necessary.
>guy covered in gray paint
harald großkopf - synthesist
also i feel like r+7 uses a similar palette to vangelis kotsoulis:

>Russian guy
Vladislav Delay?
>Sounds like a shittier version of mid-to-late 80s ambient or like unfinished, demo versions of 90s ambient dub.
lol
>Just listen to Biosphere or TFSOL
opn is much better than both
>Wow I just listened to bits and snippets of this album for the first time
maybe you'll like it more if you listen to it properly?
>They're mostly Omnisphere presets.
Sound design-wise, yes, it's very derivative or "lazy" (intentionally). But
>the synths on this album are so strange. they make me feel weird, like some uncanny valley shit. i can't put it into words very well.
The sound design doesn't matter much here, because the strangeness is in the unusual harmonies and song structures. Some random schmuck fucking with Omnisphere presets won't come even close.
Compare the videos linked in this thread (youtube.com
Garden of Delete also has a lot of custom sound design (though like most of his work, it's heavily and intentionally inspired by sort of surreally copying things from existing genres).
