Yeah i would be fine with this but if i look at Hollywood and the Internet, it looks like the majority of people think that anything thats supposed to be cute/innocent with white eyes and a serious expression is now considered not innocent and scary (basically the exact opposite of harmfull/scary is considered scary)

The thought of dolls and the like being scary most likely comes from the idea of 'Uncanny Valley'. This means that the objects resemble something almost but not quite human. Combine this with the fact that they mostly don't move this brings on the idea of a dead child, a horrible thing indeed. When something that is considered not alive (dead) starts moving and attacking people it causes discomfort for many people.
Also, due to the prevalence of this fear a more accurate fetish to use as an example would be for feet.
