What went wrong?

I just listened to the full album of Humanz and I have to say I'm disappointed. It's not because the music is necessarily bad, the album lacks the finesse early Gorillaz had.
Lets compare the following:
>The most popular song of Humanz

>One of the most popular songs from Demon Days
youtube.com/watch?v=uAOR6ib95kQ
Humanz lacks any tracks with irresistible grooves. Most of the euphoric energy the Gorillaz were known for is lacking in the new Album. Humanz feels slow, dark, and too atmospheric. Damon Albarn seems to have lost his magic touch.

I think the one thing lacking from Humanz is that Gorillaz songs always had an amazing hooks and melodies. They were unique but very catchy.

Honestly, what I feel Humanz lacks is a cohesive vision like Demon Days had. Humanz feels like a collaboration album between Gorillaz and various other artists with no clear common theme or tone.

When will you guys shut the fuck up about this pile of garbage band we dont need 20 threads a day about it

>" Warner Music Group (WMG) later acquired Parlophone and PLG in 7 February 2013, making Parlophone their new third flagship label, alongside Warner Bros. Records and Atlantic Records. PLG was renamed as the Parlophone Records Limited group (PRL) in May 2013."

you're right. where the fuck is noodle in this btw? She doesn't get a single track?
i don't believe a label change is responsible for them lacking hooks.

leaked photo of damon in the studio during production of the fall and humanz

Is he just churning shit out in his downtime. is this how this album was created? The beats are shit.

>no clear common theme or tone.
but that's wrong

>is this how this album was created?
For the fall yes as he was on tour the entire time
For Humanz he made the demos on his ipad and then worked on them in his studio. It's no different than when he recorded gorillaz demos on his 4 track tascam

No wonder it's lacking it's just an extension of the fall

You didn't read a word I said did you

damon wanted to be hip more than he wanted to make interesting music

Daily reminder that Gorillaz was always shit

I think the sound of early Gorillaz was more mainstream, but it was a lot easier to listen to. It didn't feel like cheap boring pop to begin with. It has its own unique funk and style to it.

it's probably responsible for the absurd amount of the guests, though
...and all that advertising bullshit

>taking Scaruffi seriously at all

yeah I dont think he was right there, Demon Days is minimum of 7+ regardless of your opinion on this type of music

Roses Gabor, who sung Dare, does backing vocals on Andromeda.
Also, Kelela sings on Busted & Blue but isn't mentioned as being "featured"
same thing for Azekel's vocal on Momentz

I disagree. Demon Days has quite a few duds on it (White Light, O Green World, DARE) with a songwriting climax in "Feel Good Inc.", the outro of "Planet" and the final 2 songs closing the project. I would say it takes a bit of patience to unfurl, which makes it my favorite Gorillaz album. It rewards you with a decent A, B, C & D side if you can stomach the awful songs I listed in parenthesis.

An album worthy of a 7/10 shouldn't be so uneven. Cosmogramma is a good example: while there are duller moments towards the middle, not a single song is worth skipping. It reminds cohesive and engaging through it's runtime and the consistency wins it a 7.

>O Green World, DARE
>duds
You have a strange meaning of the term "dud"
Granted you could say O Green World is too long, but it fucking rocks especially live.

>Pedoruffi

O Green World is one of the best songs in the album though

Demon Days is well above average, a few bad moments in a full album makes it a 7, not a fucking 4.5. Well above average album. Plastic Beach I can see, that suffers the same problems but in much bigger terms

yeah and i forgot to mention White Light and O Green World are both fucking gems

momentz is shit though.
Andromeda is decent.

I think the earlier albums had a cartoonier sound, and was more euphoric. It feels like the gorlliaz are taking themselves too seriously now

O green world is a good song tho

Normally dont say this, but i stopped reading at
>(White Light, O Green World, DARE)

I finally get why people say this lol

>momentz is shit though.
I didn't say anything about its quality

Have you listened to his solo album? That stuff genuinly has one instrument track per song
Hes either getting lazy or got caught in the minimalistic meme

>I have no argument

...

>posts screenshot of scores from a meme critic
>thinks that's enough to warrant an argument
you're a joke

>That stuff genuinely has one instrument track per song
No it doesn't

>being an autistic over an animated band that some old guy with a website said he didn't like
>wasting these trips
u wot user?

I don't agree with the assessment of Scaruffi exactly, but his website doesn't have much of a review on Demon Days so it's only a number on a page.

As for "a few flaws leading to a 7", I understand that's how the average person scores but I find it to be a loaded offer. If you 7 standard is so low then the majority of material worth listening to bloats your 8, 9, and 10 respectively. The highest honor on your scale doesn't actually mean that much. What's the difference between a damn good album and an all time masterpiece if your rating scale cannot show it?

This also leads to a mentality where a reviewer will never use their 4, 3, 2, and 1 scores which begs the question of even having them. If shaky but solid is a 7 and average is a 5, what is the difference between a 3 and 2? They both suck, might as well group them together under a "not worth your time" moniker.

alrighty then

It does here

Others have like two or three

i dont need to explain ratings to you, mate.
6-7 is above average, 7 being better than 6 (hurr)

user you are the one who got upset by Scruffy's opinion. How am I the one on damage control?

that's literally just a contemporary folk song
do you think Pink Moon is bad because there's only one guy with a guitar in it?

Im not saying its bad just that it can be seen as lazy, like the production to the fall, havent listened to humanz so cant tell

>guitar
>strings
>vocals too
ok
