Military fags. I scored fairly high on my ASVAB (89. All line scores around 65, except PC and Auto, which are like 55)

What branch/MOS' are decent? I was considering trying a challenge contract for BUDS, but SWCC is also pretty attractive to me. I'll have to take a MOS either way, so I just want to know what your suggestions are.

too bad you still aren't smart enough to attend college.

What's the point of joining?

I graduated with a 3.75 gpa and a high 1400 on my SAT. Instead I sat around smoking weed all day and playing video games, which leads me here.

Bump

97 when I took mine, sometime around 2007. Was intending to go into the navy for their nuclear program. Big sign on bonus, as well as an early re-enlistment bonus because they want a minimum 6 years. All got ducked at the end because I'm too colorblind to pass the fucking tests, so absolutely nothing with tech. The best alternative suggested was fucking kitchen work, so I walked.

Radiology specialist or respiratory therapist. Dunno if your scores are high enough though. What was your st?

Science/tech? Like 67.

98 on mine back in 2013. 142 GT score

I chose USMC infantry, no regrets

Pick an MOS that will give you a career when you get out. Not a lot of jobs for infantry.

OR do like me, , and pick infantry knowing you'll get a great experience you can't get anywhere else, knowing that when you get out you'll have the GI-bill to finance your education in a field you'll enjoy having a career in.

Seriously whether you pick Army or the Marine Corps (rah) going infantry means you're part of the 10% the other 90% exists to support. It's a good time.

Not going infantry is like joining the chAir Force as anything other than a pilot; why bother?

First off, if you're going navy it's not MOS it's rate. And you'll have to wait a year or so before you try out for SEALs or SWCC. Go nuclear if you can... don't you talk to your recruiters?

go kill people

civilian HR's don't give a shit if you're military, i got out as an O-3 and it took me 7 months to find a job, and I had a "good" MOS.

7 months as a former O-3? What branch were you a Captain in?

If it bears any weight on your decision, I just finished my schooling as a navy nuke. It's extremely academically challenging, but worth it. The bonus is cool (12,000) and I just STAR re-enlisted, advanced to E-5 and got another bonus in a lump sum (79,500) roughly.

The job is fun, hours are long sometimes, but nukes are a great community.

For reference, got a 97 on the ASVAB. Had to take the NAPT (naval advanced placement test) because I've been out of school for so long, got a good score on that as well. I love Nuke.

Marine here. Best branch if you're in it for the experience and not the benefits. I'm a 2671, Arab Linguist, in the pipeline to get Reconnaissance Marine as a secondary MOS. I probably still won't see direct combat as recon, but I'll get to do some cool shit and not to mention the fact that it's a great way to get my foot in the door with MARSOC if I choose to reenlist

^ additionally, and especially if you have a college degree, the job market is WIDE open in the near to above six figure range when you get out.

And if you don't know, MARSOC is all about kicking down doors and stacking bodies. It's a great route to take if, like I said, you want some cool experiences

I appreciate the input. From what I read, I wouldn't need any additional tests to qualify: ar mk el gs = at least 252. Do you know if this is still true?

I'll definitely look into it.
How selective is the program?

Yep, that's still true. It's also still true that you enlist at E-3 and advance to E-4 right after your 6 month A school (or 3 month if you get machinist mate).

MARSOC is super selective, which is why I'm doing Recon first. It's still really selective, but it's possibly to enlist with a recon contract. I'm not sure if I'd recommend that though, because the wash out rate for recon is something like 75%, mostly because of recon contracts who don't know how much swimming is involved and how difficult the pipeline is.

That's definitely attractive. Also, I have a personal expense that the enlistment bonus could definitely go a long way for.

Any way you could give me an idea what day to day life is for that rate?

Little over 4 years in the Air Force here, E-5 (SSgt). Obviously, I'm going to recommend you join the Air Force. Navy is decent too from what I understand. They operate a lot like we do.

As for as good AFSC's go, stay the fuck away from Maintenance. I'm a 2R1X1 Aircraft Scheduler and while I don't work on the flight line, my job can get stressful as fuck. I was going to cross train as a Paralegal, but it's also a stressful job (or seemed to be when I took an informal tour).

Operations has good jobs (besides Aircraft Flight Equipment AKA basically Maintenance). Load Master seems like a good job if you want to travel. Comm is decent if you like working with computers, but has its downsides. HVAC is cozy but seems unfulfilling. Contracting is cushy and sets you up for the future. Medical is the cushiest. Intel is good too. Firefighters have weird schedules, but that seems like a cool job everyone seems to enjoy. If you want a challenge, but don't want to die immediately, EOD is a good one or SERE— keep in mind not many people actually make it through the training for SERE (Survival Experts). Stay away from SOWT, Combat Controller, and TACP. You likely will not make the cut and will wash out into a job you probably won't like.

Alright, I'll definitely look into either of those too! I'm planning on speaking with recruiters of every branch, but wanted to get actual opinions before getting sweettalked.

Paralegal. You will get out of almost any grunt work and everyone will assume you're a lawyer. Your NCO will probably be some hot female that has never lifted a finger

Jesus haha. Thanks for all of the info. I read it all, and you laid it out clearly enough that I don't really have any questions, but I wanted to acknowledge you

Well, I'm on 5 section duty. I stand watch 24 hours on the boat (aircraft carrier) once every 5 days. Other than that, work is generally 7-4, with some additional time some days working on qualifications. I just qualified senior in rate, which means my life is a little easier. In the beginning, it's a lot of long ass days until you get qualified. You get to go home for lunch if you have a family there with you (I'm married). It's honestly not as bad as people make it out to be. What IS true is that nukes are the first ones on the ship and the last ones off. We work our asses off, but it's worth it. It's character building.

Lmao

>O-3
>probably have arts degree

Typical dirtbag CO that got fired from command and went to work BN staff then got out thinking "I'm set huurr dur I'm a captain"

I gotcha. Doesn't seem too awful. I just know nukes have a high suicide and low retention rate, so I'm a bit hesitant.

For the record, I'm actually living in Norfolk as we speak. Sister is active Navy (works in cal lab), and my uncle is a nuke. I'll definitely talk to him about it a bit. Though, it took him 20 years to make Chief, which also made me a bit cautious of nuclear.

Good plan my dude. Last pieces of advice from me. You're gonna get your college paid for afterwards no matter what, so instead of doing a boring, safe job for 4-6 years or longer, do something exciting that you'll look back on be proud of. Plus, Air Force is full of a bunch of tattle tale, anti-social, weirdos. Navy is all fat and out of shape, but generally cool. Army is full of try yards who just wanna be Marines but aren't, and marines are either retardedly motivated, which is annoying as fuck, or super fucking chill. Recon is the chilliest of chills, especially considering how much bad ass shit Recon does. Alright, I'm done, best of luck to you bro

No problem man. I'm looking to get a special assignment as a recruiter, MTI, or MTL so I try to know a little about a lot.

Whatever branch/job you get good luck. We're all a joint effort and play our part in the mission. The Air Force was the right call for me and has given me a lot, but all branches will give you the tools to succeed. It's up to you how you use them on the outside.

That's what I plan on doing. I still fully plan on trying to get into some form of special combat role, but obviously I need stuff to rely on. As it sits, I'm still wanting to attempt to go SEAL/SWCC.

I can tell you firsthand that a large portion (very large) of the drop outs or academic removals come from people who either stop caring because it's too hard, or party too much. I heard about the high suicide rate, but I haven't experienced it first hand. I'm stationed in San Diego, the base here is gorgeous.

As for your uncle, I feel as if advancement is situation-based and command-based. We have some 20 year Chiefs here, however there's a guy who's a chief and has only been in for 9. There's 5 E-6's that are still on their first enlistment. It's hard to tell honestly.

I'm off to bed man, got work in the morning. Personally, I hope you go Nuke. I really believe it's worth it. My name's Dallas. Maybe I'll run into you some day. Fair winds.

...

Appreciate it user.
Thanks man. Appreciate it! If we do, my last name rhymes with gorilla. Not too many with it.

gratz, your life didn't turn to shit.

For me the nuke program is a means to an end. The stuff we do is really cool, but enjoy muh freedom too much to stay in.

Hey Sup Forumsros, I was planning on joining the Air Force but I can't decide between Diagnostic Imaging or Pharmacy technician. Diagnostic imaging could get me into MRI work after, but pharmacy technician seems like a pretty chill job. Any advice or experience in any of these?

Those line scores are fucking terrible and 89 is absolute shit. Were you dropped on your head as a child?

Doing IT for the army. Once I decide on getting the comptia industry certs I'm set. Doing CS in college at the same time. Also doing independent web development.

Whats up fags

I
It literally can not be shit. It's percentile based.

Arty is where it's at. Loved being a gun bunny so much.

You fucking kidding me? I'd have been out years ago, with qualification in a highly lucrative field. Now I run an IT company and worry about finances constantly.
