>now

You got older.
Bad rap has been in the mainstream since MC Hammer tried to go g funk.

fpbp

you're joking, finally some good stuff is getting by the big houses

It's always been bad, but you've gotten older
Post Malone did a good Bob Dylan cover though

>this is what the kids are saying now
Oh no

I hate this faggot

Grime is where it's at

PM is the most disgusting looking musician I've ever seen. Even Grimes looks less greasy.

Why does he waste his time making shit meme "music" if he has actual talent?

The complete lack of innovation in the rap genre is directly a consequence of the racial taboo surrounding it.

Had white people been able to "appropriate" the genre, just like rock and roll, it would have become much more socially acceptable, and you would have had a far greater degree of innovation taking place. There would have been a lot more rappers of all races competing and having the courage to be unique.

Alas, the social conformity in the genre among young black men still exists, and therefore rap has become this strange commerically-raped genre where the most retarded and barely literate of people are able to rise to the top. Therefore the music is simultaneously everywhere yet practived/respected by a tiny demographic.

And das da truth rite durr.

>since MC Hammer tried to go g funk.
The Funky Headhunter was his only good album you fucking backpacker

Stormzy's better.

meme music gets you rich

Fair enough

>older rappers got old and stopped putting out unique music
>the culture around the music encourages imitation rather than innovation
>the genre gets one industry-approved figurehead at a time it seems
>the fucking catastrophe that is mumble rap (lil uzi vert, xxxtentacion, etc). I genuinely cannot believe this shit gets listened to unironically. Admittedly i havent listened to it since the fad started, but when i did it just sounds like someone getting high underwater.

As said the whole genre is commercially raped as well. The industry favors pointless hype songs over actual talented lyricists because thats what sells more.

Those who are talented lyrically in rap usually aren't very good musicians doe. Didn't see pac playing instruments, not that Future has any musical skills to brag with.

My point is rather that rap has always been unique in that melody ain't shit (especially now with auto tone).

Fuck rap

Thats the problem though. Everyone can "spit bars" but cant arrange the music themselves hardly. The rappers that can always end up sounding softer and more melodic, but because rap's whole culture is about going as hard as possible on that griiiIiiIiIiiIIIind 24/7 nigga anything that isnt shouting into autotune remains obscure to the casual listener.

Older rap had memorable beats and hooks at least to match the talent of the lyricist.

excellent posting. I wish everyone knew this

Even if old school rappers could write their own lyrics and get a nice groove going, they weren't musicians so to speak. Call 'em legendary slam poets but in my opinion you can't expect positive development in a genre full of shouting/mumbling.

I agree with you on the culture being a problem but I think we all need to face that rap as a genre was never made to please any higher musical senses inside us but rather a way for those with little musical insight to feel educated in the audible arts.

>implying it wasnt ever above sewer level

youtube.com/watch?v=ZBZIBB549Sg

his live performance of Killing In The Name Of was pretty great imo, he is clearly a talented musician and performer, just a sellout

/thread

ok i know how easy it is to dismiss the rest of modern rap as not being worthy of listening to because of trap/mumble rap's existence but i SWEAR to GOD that there is legitimately good hip-hop being made, it's just a matter of where to look for it
youtube.com/watch?v=PfQ7BPDDe6Y
youtube.com/watch?v=UJSxlgxA7TI

>using vinnie paz as an example of good modern rap

imagine being this retarded

This. The genre needs to be WHITED desperately.

>I agree with you on the culture being a problem but I think we all need to face that rap as a genre was never made to please any higher musical senses inside us but rather a way for those with little musical insight to feel educated in the audible arts.
Basically this and if you tried you fade into obscurity

>older rappers got old and stopped putting out unique music
so true
youtu.be/hyZ_ivqxqXM

oh kool moe dee not you too............

kmd fell off because his beats didn't keep up with the times, his lyrics were always top-notch but the mainstream had changed to the harder instrumentals and he didn't adapt, now it sounds like he's overcompensating for that

Rap felt like it was dying around like 2006, then kanye appeared and made it super gay, and now its gotten swallowed up by the pop machine, so you have a choice between drake or some mumbling guy who has green dreadlocks and does birdcalls, also there are like 1000000 of those guys, and they are all named lil faggy, or something.
I actually think rap is about to hit a wall when it comes to creativity again.

I hope metal comes back into the mainstream, or like shoegaze goes mainstream or something.
Im tired of nigger music and culture

My new rap name is actually lil ciabatta bread

go listen to lil dicky then

>not going buck to coon shit

What would you like to see in rap that would garner your attention? if I can't deliver you get a picture of some cats

Nothing, i despise rap.

You really have to dig through all of the shit.

I've started to notice lately that a lot of the popular underground rappers feel a lot more mainstream than anything.

And most youtube rappers sound gay as fuck.

jews are not white.

>rap is in the gutter

yEa duDe oKayY

this is the utter gutter, see what I did there? Par for the course of course ;)

youtube.com/watch?v=Y9uR6lNah_0

pretty sure I'm the only one on Sup Forums who listens to Madchild

yeah, this is pretty great
youtube.com/watch?v=rxsNk_DXplo

Music is the only place where race mixing is ok.

wow what a funny picture

this guy solidifies why rap is nothing more than a throwaway genre to me. you can be lyrically impressive, you can have a good flow, you can be backed by a nice beat, but if youre not charismatic, (or basically if you dont fit the identity of most big rappers) youre just not appealing to listen to. This guy has his own thing going and in most genres I praise artists that steer from the norm but in rap? It just doesn't stick. Rap is as good as the status quo allows it to be.

maybe im autistic tho

fuck off, post is great

You real are right man, and lol you aren't autistic.

It is possible to stay in your own lane and create your own movement and be "something new" but the only people that I've seen that have done that from the root level are Kanye West and Tyler the Creator. But then again Kanye had some plugs to get mainstream, whereas Tyler had to do everything from the underground and break a lot of barriers to get where he is.

Hell I could even put Lil B on the list, and a new contender would probably be XXXTentacion but he's riding the "woke with colored dreads" wave. But then again he has a bunch of peers that could replace him (Playboi Carti, Uzi, hell even Nike Boi), and there are a bunch of people in the underground that do his style even better than he does (Fukkit, Kamiyada, Youngster Jiji, Art Sensei, etc..)

Rap is in a weird spot, because if you don't fit the status quo you WILL be slept on, unless you really have a certain charisma that can propel you forward. A great example of this would probably be Lil Yachty. He got where he was because of his eclectic voice and hairstyle and is banking off that super hard,

which post?

Covering an already good song isn't talent. Making original good music is.

Anyone can play guitar

Are you fucking kidding we have Young Thug.

Oh yeah because more rappers like Machine Gun Kelly and Lil Dicky is exactly what we need

its a vibe bruh. its not for you square ass lame ass washed up ass niggas. its for the culture. its lit senpai.

>Rap is in the gutter now
Cunt, Kers has climbed right the fuck out the gutter.

going 10 for 10 with no help from the radio or mainstream.

kerser is the sickest.

>Anyone can play guitar
There are physical and mental limitations that say otherwise. Also it's one thing to play guitar, but another to be able to keep a rhythm and sing in key WHILE playing. He has talent. Let's see you make a better cover of that. Oh wait you're gonna say you don't have to cause its what people without skill do. Right.

pumps and humps was a real record mc hammer died a little that day

this cunt sucks. Much of the same, aussie rap is just 90's american hip hop.

I work in a prison and they always request this shit cunt on the local radio show.

trap blew up, making rap obselete.

i feel like people are starting to appreciate beats/instruments ect more than lyrics nowadays, but that's obvious.

Go back and listen to most of the stuff you used to like, most likely it is 70% bollocks. The ultimate fact is that hip hop is mostly marketed towards children and young teenagers, I don't mean this in a disparaging way, it's just marketing. Once you grow out of hip hop you really start to realise how much of a massive marketing scheme the entire genre is.

who makes adult music for adults such as myself?

...

Do you wear a fedora still to?

We can only blame ourselves
We even made this man famous for fucks sake

Forgot pic lol

born in le wrong generation: the thread.

whats wrong with lil B I never listened to his music?
Also this guy is right there is a lot of unique artist in the underground so shut up about dead rap you guys sounds like those normies who complain about real music then only look at the surface music

he's cute.

i wish he's bi and into nonwhite guy

Oh look ankther spiritual lyrical miracle faggot with a stupid voice and overproduced boom bap beat

Rapping about being a rapper is the dumbest shit.

Good riddance.

They are literally just playing it exactly how it was originally recorded you stupid faggot teenager

>meme music gets you rich
Yeah it's this.

>What the fuck happened?
They stopped sampling jazz and soul records made by actual decent musicians and that's where everything went down hill.

I don't want to hear your dumb 808 claps and airhorns, they sound bad. Hiphop used to at least have turntablism going for it.

Black people still kinda make creative and relatively complex stuff in the form of footwork.

Why don't more rappers utilize footwork instrumentals in their records?

Ratking

You sound like you watch no jumper

>actually has a decent voice
>does the dumb trap slurring shit that everyone does these days instead
What a waste, hope he's dropping that country album soon because he's been talking about country and 'being an artist not a rapper' quite a lot.

I don't have time to

>listening to Jewish influences

thanks user

>trashking

I just wouldn't be able to do what he's doing, even for the publicity and dough.

>ITT

people who don't listen to rap

You don't have 5 minutes and yet you have time to post here? Fuck off no skillz.

Most aussie hip hop is completely different from kerser, but i definitely understand what your saying, his early stuff is thuggy as fuck.
But the majority is stupid radiohop shit like pez and 360, not to even mention what the hoods turned into; from nosebleed section into fucking cosby sweater, what a fall.

PUSH ME TO THE EDGE

ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DEAD

you cant discuss hip hop anymore on this board. It always goes to racist shit. Its just impossible, which is pretty sad considering this is the music board.

NOW THEY ONLY SAY CONGRATULATIONS

Because facts.

Kendrick proved that he's a one trick pony after releasing DAMN.

damn i thought this was ASAP Yams
