keyboards went digital in the 80's and rock fans started associating synths with "fake music". the role of a keyboardist largely disappeared after that

At least there's Page McConnell. He's been the best member of Phish for years now.

King Crimson has a dedicated keyboard player now, plus 2 other members that do it occasionally on top of their main instrument

I thought that was ariel pink at first

What happened to pianists in generan on mainstream media?

Pianists tend to blend into the background unless the group is a trio or intentionally makes room for piano parts.

Nowadays, they're relegated to jazz trios, jam bands, or simple accompaniment in a rock/pop context.

Keyboard-based performers tend to be less visually-interesting than pretty much any other instrument. Instruments already have a background role in modern pop music, so it makes sense that pianists are the first to get cut.

Music is not a visual spectacle. So no, it doesn´t make sense...

If you think the majority of modern music is based on the quality of the music itself, you've not been paying attention.

That is true. But, are you blaming the quality of piano players?

Kek same

Me too.

Challenge: post a better rock piano album

You cannot

L a y l a .

Name a rock band that doesn't use synths in their music

...

>Ben Folds

I definitely cannot and probably never will

the doors and Jimi knew an organ was superior to another fuckinguitar to cover the harmony.

all double guitar bands are either metal or trendy dilettantes.

what about Television though

this is pretty accurate.

What does that even mean?

gtfo scum

Nice.

Some unintelligent user doesn't like Ben Folds Five, so he resorted to implying that Ben Folds Five is a "reddit band" or something. He must be new here.

What about King Crimson?

>Not playing the keyboard while playing the bass while doing all the vocals while working half a dozen synths with your feet

I need to make a "glorious prog chad geddy" versus "loser virgin rapper" macro

Exile On Main St

This

This too

It's the same pianist but he's fucking unbelievable on this record.

It's just the fully retarded version of Bruce. The skill of Born to Run's playing but the whole thing is a joke so he doesn't have to fit into Bruce's elegant songwriting. I don't even know how he plays this fast:
