Imagine a 747 is sitting on a conveyor belt, as wide and long as a runway. The conveyor belt is designed to exactly match the speed of the wheels, moving in the opposite direction. The wheels are frictionless. Can the plane take off?

Moron.

Of course it will you fucking dumb shit, the wheels are passive
>being this dumb

not really no

>the wheels are frictionless
You won't go anywhere.

No.

show me a 747, or indeed, any aircraft which is driven by the wheels being turned, and I'll show you a plane that wont take off.

otherwise, they all take off, with the wheels spinning twice as fast as normal.

Depends how fast belt goes...
First moving belt will have no effect, but after some time on huge speed wind current will form above belt . Due size of machine and model it will be not strong enough to "lift" plane, but you should see it jumping on air currents under wings...

Yes it'll take off, because the wheels have nothing to do with the air speed produced by the engines. The conveyor running against wheel speed just means the wheels will eventually destruct from spinning too fast, but the plane will still move forward.

So the body of the plane is not moving... and you expect it to take off? Don't be absurd.

YOU NEED AIR PRESSURE FOR THE AIR FOIL SHAPE OF THE AND THUS LIFT, THIS IS BASIC FIRST GRADE BERNULES OR ARCHIMEDES I DNT RMBR EXACTLY PRINCIPLE AIR PRESSURE SO NO THE PLANE WONT TAKE OFF UNLESS ITS WINDY AF AND ITS AIMED AGAINST THE WIND A MIGHT BOB UP A BIT DEPENDING IF ITS RLLY FAST WIND

Yes. The magnetic field generator in the wings still repeals the naturally occurring iron in the earth beneath the conveyor belt runway, duh.

>The wheels are frictionless
Then yes, as the thrust of the plane doesn't come from the wheels but the engines. All that will happen is the wheels will spin twice as fast.

>Imagine a 747 is sitting on a conveyor belt, as wide and long as a runway. The conveyor belt is designed to exactly match the speed of the wheels, moving in the opposite direction. The wheels are frictionless. Can the plane take off?
This is just fucking stupid, and it's BEEN fucking stupid for 10+ years. It's that old.

You're a fucking idiot. Air needs to be moving over the wing to cause a negative pressure. If the plane is stationary then there's no wind and it will not take off

Of course it won't take off because there's the fucking frame in the way that holds the waddle paddles and the chips holder and the coke IV and the mayonnaise dispenser and the burger grill and the fitness show TV!

The wings would hit those posts holding up the treadmill console and break off. Of course it wouldn't take off.

If the plane basically stationary on a conveyor belt, Bernoulli's principal will not happen.

treadmill could be moving backwards at warp 8 make it so, and plane would still move forward as normal because the thing that moves the plane forward are the engines. The wheels are like a car that's in neutral.

Opps *anti-magnetic field generator*

except the wheels would not be able to spin so fast and would fail, then the entire plane goes boom

op said wheels are frictionless

>exactly match the speed of the wheels
>>wheels are frictionless
There's your problem. It will takeoff.

To clarify, the engines are what gives the force, so it will move ahead regardless of the treadmill. The wheels will rotate passively, but will not have an effect on the aircraft moving.

It needs thrust.

right, well then in a world where magic is real it would take off vertically, sure

what are aircraft engines if not big air movers generating wind?

planes aren't cars, user.

no because theres no air resistance. its not moving

If it worked, don't you think they would have them on aircraft carriers already?

10/10 best troll comment. i'm dying

>big air movers generating wind
And fun!

I expect millennials will sell their kayaks and put these on top of their suvs.

aeronautics are a patriarchal power structure

HAHAHAHA You're the dumbest person in this thread you fuckhead

Lift is generated by the wings.
If the speed of the plane, and the speed of the conveyor belt are equal, the plane doesn't move forward or backward.
The plane is immobile.
The wings don't generate lift.
You fucking retard.
>being this dumb

Not without a bit of airflow past those wings

Agree

See You guys need to go back to high school to learn basic math and physics, jesus christ

The plane is propelled by jet engines, regardless of whether or not the place remains on the conveyor belt to build up speed,, once the speed needed is reached the plane can take off.

Oh no, how will it take off without wheels?!?!
