The English translation for this sentence is apparently "You need to learn how to break properly first."

With the きた and no grammar indicating "need" in that sentence, I don't understand that translation. My first thought is that it'd be something like "You also began to learn how to use the brakes," implying that she's already started to learn how to use them, but she needs to learn more before she has completed the process of learning how to properly use the brakes.

Am I right about this?

JANNY PLEASE

>使えるようになってきた
>You have become able to use
>きた
>be-come

I understand that possible meaning, but that doesn't fit the context

>もうじてんしゃでおつかいいける
So, it's okay to go shopping by bike?
>そーだな、ブレーキも使えるようになってきたしな。
Yeah, You've become able to use the brakes too.

which makes sense to me.

At least I don't think so. Here's the whole page for reference

If it were just that then that'd make sense to me as well, but the dialogue after kind of makes me doubt that meaning (maybe I'm wrong). It's my fault for not posting the whole image at first

Do Japanese think Japan is a patriarchal society?

It's consistent to me with or without the dialogue after.
She's been learning how to ride a bike for a while but not using the brakes properly enough to go shopping alone.
So she's saying "I can go when I'm with you."

predominantly so when it's compared to the west.
it's changing though. unfortunately.

Dad: If we go together it's alright.

why do you come to tokyo?Business trip?

Dad's the one that said "I can go when I'm with you" though, which kind of makes me think he said that because she hasn't yet learned how to completely use the breaks yet, thus prompting his response about "You can go if you're with me."

On second thought, you could be right. I was initially thinking of そうだ being used like "That's so (that you want to do that) huh?" or something like that, not an affirmative "yes."

But especially with the し at the end to indicate reason at the end (for why she *can* go), and the fact that his response in the middle panel doesn't include "but" or anything like that, I think you're right and the translator was just dead wrong. Thanks

It's effective to concentrate our reporting to a few posts.
Maybe reported posts with "janny" or "janitor" in them get their attention... just guessing.

He's just saying that because she's too young to go anywhere by herself. She can use the brakes.

1 more question: the translation for this sentence seems to be "crap, I need to get copies of this."

How could this be when it's だった and when there's no "need" grammar anywhere?

If anything this sentence would to me would mean "Shit, I copied this (in advance)" but that doesn't make sense at all.

>I should have copied this

~するんだった is like "(I) should've ~".

>>undefined
what the fuck...

Hallelujah, the jannies are good.

What's going on...?

The sentence roughly literally translated would be "Copies were to be prepared"
I think

Thanks, is there a grammar article/entry that goes more into this so I can read up on it? DoJT doesn't seem to have anything but someone on google said it expresses regret, which would make sense

I've never seen anything like this before.

I don't see this
