The editing was interesting, the amount of freedom Jack got was much more than any other director would've given him.
Sure it's not near-experimental like Raging Bull or Goodfellas, but it's a classic crime drama.

Elaborate. I feel like you're calling the Departed a plebby film, but Sup Forums (for instance) is extremely into capeshit, GoT generals, and interracial porn. So.
Goodfellas had interesting decisions with the editing as well. The long takes were unique and costly, the pace of the film wasn't really done before and hasn't been done as well since.
It's a better movie than the Departed but I fail to see why the Departed is bad.
